  1. Well either your Z is defective or you are right about the setup in your particular vehicle. I have the volumes set to about 3/4 on mine and can hear it perfectly with windows down and/or with the top down, and I have a fairly loud exhaust system. I have even had to turn the phone down on some occasions. I have the sound only coming out of the driver's side speaker.

I did a quick search on the net but didn't find anything similar in the BMW forums, but I didn't dig too deep.

Hopefully there is someone else in here that has or has installed in an M5 that can shed a little more light on this issue for you...

  2. i dont knnow why it does it, but it is weird mine will go for a month at a time with out skipping a beat, then there will be two or three days that the screen wont come up in a phone call or it just wont dial, or my faverite is when the screen does come up and i press the hang up button and it ends the call, but the screen just stays there with the radio muted for about 5 mins.

... that's one of the reasons I didn't keep the U310 and got the Z110, I drive around all day going to see clients and rely on my hands free to make and receive business calls.

  3.

You might have also observed, unit claims phone is disconnected immediately when you turn on the key?? Later 15-20 seconds later, it comes back and says phone is connected(Hello, don't have basic logic that when unit is turned off phone will be disconnected?, and should not show that message when it is turned on?). There is complete disconnect between the BT module and unit itself.

I noticed the same thing, when the unit comes out of "hibernation" it wakes up where it left off when you turned off the key THEN notices the phone is disconnected and shows the message, then it starts to search for nearby paired phones and connects.

If I still had the unit I would certainly call and complain but I imagine they won't talk to me without providing a serial number or something, I upgraded after a few days and am glad I did. I do my own installs so that wasn't an issue. I went through 4 NAV units before deciding on the Z110BT

  4. Nothing on nowtorrents.com is real. You can tell if you refresh the page after getting there, the amount of times it has been downloaded goes up and down like a yo-yo, it basically just puts a random number there, the file results are generated bu the keywords you used for the search.

And the Pioneer web page states "Map data update only", so no changes to the interface.

  5. This unit hibernates because of the removable screen. Make sure that the power is turned OFF to the screen while it is in the dash, you may get better results that way.

I had the U310BT for a short while and it did some strange stuff. My phone always connected though unless the blue-tooth was locked up (couldn't turn it on or off from the menu), but this only happened every few days, not every time I started it up. Hopefully a firmware upgrade is in the works for everyone that has one.

  6. Thanks for the review, looks like it isn't worth it especially for $30. It must be the angle and that my HU is much lower in the dash than yours as I can see my screen better than you even with the top down. I did notice that you specifically mentioned convertibles in your review ;)

If anyone wants one for half the price I just found them on eBay for $15 shipped, same ones, just look at the pictures, they are the same as on Amazon, just a different brand name attached. I believe only (1) screen protector is included so you aren't really saving anything.

  7. Well I just ordered one, a lot easier than taking my factory deck's face off, I want to be able to put it back if I ever need to. I did this with my 88 Mustang about 15 years ago.

I think I will try to find a FORD sticker to put on it or template so I can paint FORD and/or Shaker 500 on it so it is a bit more convincing.

  8. Pg 175 in the novel about the spanish guy that came with the unit (Manual)

There are 4 methods you can use to do the reset, you should start with method 2 and go from there.

    Method 2: Touch [Restore Factory

    Settings]

This clears some items in the “Navi Settings”

menu, the “System Settings” menu and the

    “Bluetooth Settings” menu.

Did you actually purchase and install an MSN tuner? It isn't built in to the unit.

  9. Pg 175 in the novel about the spanish guy that came with the unit (Manual)

There are 4 methods you can use to do the reset, the one you need is Method 1

Method 1: The battery of the vehicle is

removed or the yellow lead of the

    navigation system is disconnected.

Clears almost all settings of the AV function

This is the only method that will clear the back up camera settings according to the chart on pg. 176

  10. OK so I went back into test mode and DVD test mode and looked around a little but couldn't find anything that has anything to do with RDS. I went to the "clearing FLASH user area" menu in test mode and cleared the user memory. I don't recommend doing this, it scared the crap out of me when I left the test mode. The unit went into a boot loop. The default splash screen came on and the radio started to play, then it would re-boot about 10 seconds into it and wouldn't stop. I turned off the key then back on again and it stayed on longer this time then asked me my language preferences, booted again, then I saw the illumination lights go back to factory default and the unit booted up properly almost all of my settings gone, and the problem still there.

I tried a Method 2, Method 3, and Method 4 reset, all to no avail. BTW the Method 3 reset did the same thing as the reset in test mode but without the boot loop problem.

I drove home at lunch and pulled on of the side dash panels off and disconnected the power harness form the back and re-connected it (Method 1 reset), the radio came on right after the splash screen and the problem was still there and all my audio settings were still intact, (they should have been erased). I pulled the plug again and waited 30 minutes before plugging in. The unit booted to silence with the AV in Off mode. I checked all my radio pre-sets and they were gone. I tuned to a few radio stations and the problem was FIXED! Everything now displayed properly.

On a side note I noticed another problem while I was trying to figure this out. In the "AV system settings" menu, the "mute level" button no longer showed any display below it (10dB, 20dB, ALL) it was just the words "mute level" with nothing under it. This problem was also solved when I did the Method 1 reset.

  11. OK so I put my Z110BT into "test mode" last night and played around a little bit. Everything looked cool, ran a couple tests, then shut it down and booted back to normal. Everything came back fine except for one small issue. When listening to an FM broadcast the RDS data does not show up properly in the NAVI mode or the "detail" mode, but is fine when looking at all the presets at once. The problem that occurs is it shows the name of the artist and station name, but then flashes 01010101, 02020202, 03030303, 1F08B5C8, then the station name and artist again....

I am thinking a hard reset my fix it but I am going to to take a look at the service manual again and make sure I didn't enter some kind of RDS testing mode that I didn't exit out of properly. I also went in to Optical Disc (DVD) test mode at one point earlier yesterday but I didn't look at the FM display after exiting that to see if it was normal or not.

Anyone else gone into test mode yet? Anyone else have the same issue after coming out of test mode?

  12. Has anyone had any luck setting this up on their Z110BT? I tried it a couple times on my lunch hour and could not get the password screen to show up. Followed page 174 from the manual with no luck, I'll try again on my way home before I leave the parking lot... if anyone has had success, let me know...

  13. The unit is VERY new and there has never been a "U" series B4 so the user base if probably quite small at this time, as more ppl buy one and discover this site the responses will probably come quicker. I suspect that most of the long time members of this site all own that Z or F series so concentrate on those units most.

  14. I had this unit for a few days and had the same issues. I found that it mostly happened if I removed the screen from the unit while the power was still on and the phone was connected, especially if the power switch to the screen was turned on. If I let the unit power down B4 removing the screen and the power switch on the screen was off the bluetooth would be fine.

The only solution I found to get bluetooth working again after it froze was to hit the "reset" button as well.

I returned this unit and bought the Z110BT instead, same NAV software, better POI, more features, less buggy, runs faster/more responsive, but of course about $800 more...
