  1. I've had my Z1/3 for about 6 years. I replaced the harddrive a few years ago with a z3, so I'm running z3 software on z1 hardware. I moved it to a new car in July. I have the bypass applied. I've never had issues with the unit.

    Until about 3 weeks ago...

The buttons and touchscreen started getting finicky. Now it has almost all stopped responding.

On the remote, the volume buttons work (occasionally), and the Source button works all the time.

On the unit, the hard buttons, only the volume works and the eject button (but trying to set screen tilt by holding the eject button does not work)

On the unit, the touchscreen does not respond at all. The display, however, is still fine. If I change sources, I can see what I should be seeing.

I can scroll through and listen to all of my sources, AM/FM/XM, CD, Library, but I can't change songs or stations. I can't get to the map. So some works, most doesn't.

Am I dealing with a hardware issue? It seems like it. Is my unit on the way out?

  2. I hooked up Apple's AV RCA cables to my Z2 and can get the video and sound to play, but it's only coming through my left speakers. I made sure that both red and white RCA's were solid and they are.

Fade/Balance isn't an issue because it's centered, but when I FAde to the right all sound cuts out, obviously.

Any idea what I'm missing here? Something in the menus?

    Thank you.

  3. Thanks for the info. I noticed it was the wrong disc before I downloaded it. I did a search for the 700HD, not the 70MTP, and when it came up I assumed it was the correct one.

I'll consider pulling it out, I don't have much on my drive, just wondering if I really want to rip all of my cds again. I would obviously much rather use the discs, so I was excited when I found them, but my excitement was a little hasty.

  4. I'm a cheap person and I had trouble convincing my wife that the Z1 was a worthwhile purchase to begin with. Now, we've moved, started new jobs, etc, so watching our money is a little more important, and another $250 on my Z1 isn't exactly winning over her heart. Although I would love those updated maps, my new town has been growing a lot and a good number of streets and POIs aren't on the maps.

So I started looking around for a disc image and a keygen of the update. I found the disc image on fullreleases.com. I used to pirate a lot of software but I haven't done so in a long time. I can't tell if these images would include a keygen or not. Has anyone used this site before, anyone have a membership? Anyone have a keygen?

  5. Thank you for the response. I had read up on here about pre and post 07/06 manufacturing dates, but I was originally unsure about mine as it had been made in April 06, but remanufactured by Pioneer. I didn't know if they would have done something to make me play by the 07/06 rules, so I wired it as such. I then read on your site that the bluetooth update should make a pre-07/06 unit work by the 07/06 rules, and thankfully it did.

I am still getting parking brake warnings, but only when I first turn on the car and it boots up. I felt like the wiring went fine. I put the cell phone mute wire in connector two in the bottom right slot, it seemed to click into place fine. I grounded it with all the others, but perhaps I missed something.

But, as it is, I have all functionalyity where moving or not, so that's good. I can handle a few warnings that pop-up if that's the case. :-)

  6. Also, it appears the 07/06 bypass did not work for me. Some options in the navigation grey-out when I'm moving.

To ground the wires needed, some seemed to short to reach metal, so I twisted the five together (xm tuner, secret wire, parking brake wire, black wire in metra harness, black wire in z1 harness) and twisted a longer piggy-tail wire in as well, soldered them all together and just grounded the long piggy-tail wire. This should work correct?

I get the parking brake incorrectly wired warning and can't get to some options while driving. Do I need to attempt to install the bluetooth update, will that help, or will I need to purchase the "flasher"?

  7. I just installed and I have two problems so far.

    1) the stupid Metra fit kit for my car is too tight. The face can't tilt or open to display the disk slot. It's a Metra 99-8205 in a Pontiac Vibe. If the faceplate is off it opens just fine. When it's on it moves, gets stuck, then moves back to its normal position

    2) I have a factory amp in my car. There were no RCA cables anywhere to be found either on the amp or the factory stereo. But when I turned on the car, the Z1 was really, really loud. I've turned it down to managable levels, but it's lowest setting is still too high for what a low setting should be.

Anyone have any recommendations on what I should do now?

  8. "Reverse Light red/black + front of fuse box, 10 pin plug"

I found the fuse box, it's under the instrument panel. It's a tight squeeze and there's a lot in there. I've seen several red/black wires, I can't tel what's a 10 pin plug and what isn't on all of them though. What does the + mean, and where exactly would "front of fuse box" be? Above the fuse box? Between the fuse box and the driver? Between the fuse box and the engine?

  9. There is a factory amp, so I'm hoping I won't be messing with RCAs.

On another note, I bought the soldering kit and just soldered everything that I think needs soldering.

I took mental note of all that needs grounded:

    - The black wire on the Metra harness

    - The black wire on the Z1 harness

    - The black wire from the XM unit

    - The green parking brake wire from the Z1 harness

    - The secret wire from Connector 2 (I took ducati's suggestion and pulled the cell phone mute out of connector 1 and successfully put into the empty slot on connector 2 in the picture)

Tomorrow morning I'll head into the car and see what I find.

    Thanks again.

  10. Wow, quick response. Good to know on all those answers.

But I just realized, I have the "moons and tunes" package with my Vibe, so I have an amp connected. I'm not sure what factory speakers are being powered by it. But it appears I'm going to need to get some RCA cables to run from Connector 1 to the amp? I haven't peaked at the back of the factory radio yet, so I'm not sure what's back there.

So the blue/white wire on the Metra harness, called "amp turn-on" will connect to the blue/white wire on Z1's Connector 1, called "system remote control." Will I need those RCA cables as well?

  11. I'm piecing it all together slowly. I've come up with three new questions.

    1) What do I hook the yellow power wire from the XM receiver to? Can I add it to the two yellow wires from the Metra harness and the Z1 harness? Have all three hooked together?

    2) Wire #2 of the 07/06 bypass is from connector #2. I had set connector #2 aside as a part I won't need because I won't have an external monitor, nor a wired remote, nor a rearview camera. Although I can't figure out what the "Guide On" yellow with black stripe wire is for. Even if I don't need anything else on that connector, I'll still have to plug it in, add a wire and ground it? And to ground it, can I just screw it to something metal on the body of the car?

    3) The z1 wire harness has an orange white-striped wire with an ILL tag on it. But my Metra harness' orange white-striped wire says "positive dimmer" on it. The illumination wire on the Metra harness is solid orange. Based on the labelling, I would assume the Z1's orange white-striped wire should be connected to the Metra's solid orange wire, but I thought wires were supposed to match.

    Thank you again.

  12. I just bought a z1 and it arrived today with all my accessories. It's all a confusing jumble of wires and instructions on my table right now. I've installed two single din head units in vehicles in the past, but nothing near this involved. I'm a little disoriented with it all, but I suppose it will start to make sense once I start.

I had a few questions before I begin though.

    1) I was planning to use wire nuts to connect the wires instead of soldering. Aside from taking up a little more space, is there anything wrong with this method?

    2) I bought a factory reconditioned z1, so I'm unsure as to if I'll be playing by the pre or post 07/06 rules. The sticker says April 06, but there's a big red R stamped on it, which I'm assuming indicated reconditioned. Any idea how I'll know which bypass to use? Other than hooking it up and seeing?

    3) My Metra 70-2003 has a warning sheet that says "Due to the fact that a switched 12-volt accessory lead does NOT exist in the factory harness, an accessory source must be located. Do NOT use the 2003's 12-volt accessory for these vehicles. Use the separate red wire provided...locate an accessory power source..." I was worried this applied to any vehicle requiring this harness, but I noticed there's a list at the top which does not include my vehicle, a 2003 Pontiac Vibe. So I'm assuming this warning does not apply to me. Can anyone with knowledge about it confirm this?

    4) I'm unclear how to ground a wire...when some instructions on here say to ground the parking break wire, I'm not sure exactly what that means. Maybe I'll come across this as I weed through my instructions, but I just wanted to put that out there for some reason...

I imagine once I'm in the dash things may make more sense (although with it being below freezing outside, sitting in my car for hours does not sound appealing), but I may have many more questions for the group. I've been reading the forum in preparation and to hopefully answer some questions, but I'm not sure how it will all go.

Thank you in advance for any help the group can provide, you guys seem like a great, friendly source of advice.

  13. Okay...so more than likely, any z1 I pick up at a retail outlet will not need the bypass, but rather this other method (assuming retail outlets will be stocking post 07/06 units).

I'm assuming this is detailed in another thread on the site. I'll do a search for instructions.

    Thank you.
