  1. I'm guessing you mean pre Touch ID.

No, either way. I've always had TouchID. I have my phone plugged into the console, so unlocking it either via fingerprint or passcode is highly inconvenient. It also makes zero sense as a security feature. Is a thief with a Carplay system going to steal my locked phone just so he can plug it into his own Carplay system and access nothing but my text messages or music?

  2. The only change I have found is CarPlay connection (via USB) while the iPhone is locked. Better than nothing, I guess.

This is actually a significant change, some of us are required by Exchange policies to have a passcode and having to constantly unlock the phone every time you plugged it in was incredibly annoying.

  3. OK. I thought Apple controlled what is available on CarPlay, and that CarPlay is part of iOS. Thanks for clarifying.

They do control what is available in the sense that, they don't have to approve your implementation of Carplay with your app update. And Carplay itself is a part of iOS. But creating a Carplay interface for an app is done by the developer.

For instance, if I create an email client app, and decide to create a Carplay feature for my app that lets the user scroll through all their emails on the car display, Apple will probably reject my app update because letting people scroll and read emails via Carplay would be considered unsafe.

  4. If you have exhausted the other steps, try reboot your phone... That has worked for several folks.

I also rebooted the phone the first time nothing was happening. I will try again when I leave work, was just kind of odd that nothing at all was registering/happening.

  5. 1) Your iPhone must be using ONLY a Lightning to USB cable plugged in to USB1 on the NEX.  Do not use a Digital AV Adapter (HDMI or VGA).  CarPlay ONLY supports USB1.

    2) Under Smartphone Setup, you must have connection type set to USB.  CarPlay will not work if it is set to any other type.

    3) CarPlay requires an iPhone 5 or higher, and iOS 7.1 or higher.

    3) If you have verified steps 1-3, try a full reboot of your iPhone and turning off your car, and then turning it back on.

It's an iPhone 6Plus with 8.1 installed. As far as I know I'm connected to USB1, I texted my installer and he said he always plugs into USB1.

  6. Carplay is not functional at all for me. I did the update, and when plugging the phone in nothing seems to have changed. I only have the same old options as far as HD Radio, or iPod function. No Carplay logo on my phone either when plugged in. What am I missing? is there a secret piece to enabling it?

  7. Here's the link to the downloads, includes the PDFs.  I'll leave it for a couple of days.

I'm really happy with this update.  I can't believe just how smoothly that went.  The update was really quick on my unit—I don't know if this is because it was a 4000, or because I used a fast SD card, but either way, took less than 10 minutes from start-to-finish.  it even remembered my custom backgrounds for startup and the home screen.

CarPlay is really smooth.  Everything I tested worked better than I expected.  One of the weird things is switching apps on the phone switches the radio, and vice-versa.  The only real negative to that is you can't be replying to a message (when parked) and have the music on the screen at the same time.

Except, you can still use the traditional USB1/iPod 1 interface, simply by choosing it from the home screen on the NEX or tapping mode to switch (with a really nice animation).

Link just goes to an error page.

  8. If Grandma had balls she'd be Grandpa.

They did set a date, that date has passed & I find it great all these Pioneer employees are here to shovel the corporate fecal matter.

Ha - I'm not a Pioneer employee. I think it sucks just as much that the update isn't out, since I really want Carplay. I'm just pointing out that if they had never given a timeframe people would just be bitching about that.

  9. They sold the units with a promise of early summer carplay. When I buy something with a promise I expect that promise to be kept.

The least they could do is give a reasonable timeframe explination.

This is why companies like Blizzard famously never give any timeframes, they just say it will be ready when it's done. Lots of issues can come up developing a big update like this, and Carplay is something of an entirely new product for Apple. If they wouldn't have given the summer timeframe, people would be complaining that they never gave a date when it would be released, and whining that it's vaporware.

  10. I'm getting a 4000NEX mainly for the Carplay/HD Radio features. I will not be using the appradio stuff or anything like that. What cable will I need just to enable iPhone 5 functionality and Carplay? I'm hoping I won't need the HDMI stuff. Is it just the CD-IU52 cable and that's all?

Also am I required to use the Pioneer cable, or will any Apple lightning cable plugged into the USB1 work? Thanks in advance.

  11. Mine does this as well, I suspect a firmware update on the pioneer side will be required to fix this. Not necessarily a cable.

Out of curiosity is your unit running the new 4.0 firmware? From the 2012 update? There's a chance they made some updates on the backend that could help.

  12. A more step-by-step procedure is as followed:

    1) Download the 140 firmware/map file, Condi Hackmode zip file, RenewallFlib.dll file, etc..

    2) Extract the Condi hackmode file to root of your SD card and put the patched RenewallFlib.dll file there too

    3) Stick your SD card in your Pioneer unit..test mode should appears.

    4) navigate to appropriate folder as described in post #1 here and delete that existing RenewallFlib.dlll file there...

    5) navigate back to root of SD and copy that patched RenewallFlib.dll file then navigate back to the folder where you deleted the file and past the copied file there.

    6) Do the same (step 4,5) for the PROG1 folder (assuming you just did 4,5 for the PROG0 folder).

You are now DONE with Test mode.

    7) Extract the 140 firmware/map file onto your desktop.

8 ) Copy those extracted files to root of SD card (new card formatted card or delete the files you did on step 1-6). In the end you should have 1 file (CardInfo) and 2 folders. Size should be 3.6 gigs

    9) You may need to replace the file to Card Info file with one that works (or just use original one if it works).

    10) Stick that into your unit and upgrade away.. type any letters for password.

Heaven forbids....Step 7-10 is where I got stuck. When I plug in the SD..nothing happens..I swapped out the Cardinfo file and all...

Some recommended to reformat the SD card with 32 bits and extract teh 140 firmware/map zip file directly onto the card..I will do that tonight.

Thanks for the step by step, but it's not working for me at all. I do steps 1&2 , and nothing at all happens when I put the card into my unit. Any ideas?
