  1. Hi all, I've loaded a few background images, and they work just fine in my D3. The problems is, after a few days the D3 "forgets" them, and I have to re-load them again. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks, - John
  2. Here are some additional install pictures: The wires for the door speakers can be tapped at the left rear trunk brown Bose connector (these were already cut and spliced, so I'm not sure which is L/R/F/R in the picture: Here is the Alpine EQ (Alpine PXE-H650 IMPRINT sound processor) in the left rear trunk cubby: And I re-did the face plate to better match the existing dash: I still do not have the steering wheel controls integrated. The PAC-AUDIO SWI-PS does not seem to work. Any ideas? Thanks - John
  3. http://leadfreedesign.com/audi_radio_install.pdf This is a 49 page PDF document (size = 1.1M) I put together with component locations, wiring diagrams and instructions on removing and reinstalling the HVAC vents and controls, the center console and radio. It also shows how to remove the front and rear door trim to replace/upgrade the speakers. I put the GPS antenna under the dash above the instrument cluster. There are instructions on removing the cluster (no need to disconnect the cluster connectors). There is a shelf back there to mount the GPS (or XM/Sirius) antennas with double

  5. Ok, so there really is no off-the-shelf install kit for an Audi A8. So here are pictures of the custom install I did... Also, I like "stealth" installs. The trunk has dual JBL subs in a sealed box, two reasonably large amps, an Alpine Imprint EQ, and a butt-load of wires. Here is how I hid all the equipment. It also keeps my kids from putting backpacks and golf clubs through my subs... And here is the car itself...
  6. Hi. Does anyone know of an install kit for an 2001 Audi A8 for the AVIC-D3? Metra and the other common sites list A4 and sometimes A6 kits, but I haven't found an A8 kit. It replaces the Symphony radio (above the HVAC controls). Thanks - John
  7. BTW, wow, what a great site. You can always tell when you find a place like this, because 6 hours of reading later, you get that "...are you STILL tweaking on that car stereo site????? !!!! " speech from your wife. Which I just got Again, great site. - John
  8. Hi. I have a 2001 Audi A8L with a completely aftermarket stereo, speakers and amps. Time to upgrade the head unit. The A8 originally came with a rudimentary GPS (text only) system, which has since been removed, BUT, the original GPS antenna in the nice, stock, audi box is still mounted externally to the trunk. The cable terminates in the trunk. I'm adding a D3, and would live to be able to use the existing GPS antenna setup. Choices: (1) splice/extend the original GPS wire to the front of the car and use the existing antenna (2) remove the guts from the existing trunk m
