A company called Tuxera has announced that they've developed software (drivers, etc.) for Windows CE that will allow it to access (read/write) NTFS-formatted devices. They made the announcement in January but I don't see yet that it's been released to the public. The Web site is: http://www.tuxera.com/. If you're really interested in using an external NTFS drive it may be worth contacting them about availability/expected release date.

Good question... I downloaded the latest navigon maps to get the DEM file to hopefully get the 3d terrain view (i.e. mountains). So whether it's compiled by Navigon from NASA date, or compiled by Navteq, etc. I don't know. This doesn't typically display like this on our units, does it? I have to admit - I didn't check before I updated it... But, in the driving that I've done before the update I hadn't noticed any actual terrain changes/topographic changes on the map. As mentioned though, the DEM file is huge... It's around 250mb for the US file. The Canada file is 106mb.

I just bought my X710 (US Version) a few days ago and it came loaded with 3.020200.

I didn't use the Navigon map files but I did use the Navigon DEM file. It's a tight squeeze at around 250mb! Here is what it looks like driving through the Rockies:
