  1. Hey there,

Just went through the entire manual but can't seem to find out if there is a way to switch the Bluetooth Phone Contacts to list all contacts by First Name first. Currently all my contacts are listed by last name and when I use the Voice Recognition the female voice says (ex. "Did you want to call Smith, John?")

Small thing but definitely would be easier for me.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Home->Settings->Map Settings. Touch [Day/Night Display] to set the display color to Automatic (dims when the headlights are on for night driving) or to Day to keep the screen bright all the time.

Page 159 in the Operation Manual.

Hey. Thanks for the reply but I am aware of these settings already. Even when I set the Map settings to "Day" the screen still dims (including all video, source selection screen) when I turn on the headlights. The "Day" setting only keeps the Nav display from showing the "Night" screen.

    It's weird.

  3. Hey there,

Just noticed the other day that when I turn the car headlights on the Nav display and screen automatically dims. This is not a problem. The problem I am having is that if you have an iPod video or DVD playing the screen adjusts and becomes really dim as well. I can't seem to find any way to have the screen remain bright at all times with the headlights on. Not going to be a problem when it's completely dark outside...but when its rainy or cloudy out and you need your headlights on it's a bit frustrating. The screen becomes so dark you can't see anything?

  4. Ok. I recently had the AVIC-X920BT installed. Awesome. For anyone interested, I also got the rear camera, Bluetooth, Sirius, hands-free, USB and steering wheel control added.

First, this head unit will allow you to adjust the colour of the buttons to match ANY vehicle interior. The NAV system works well but it is slightly different than my current portable Garmin GPS. It only does "text to speech" if you are on major highways (announcing names of roads instead of just saying "in 100ft, turn right). But this Nav display provides much more information on screen and has better picture detail when you approach your turns using a "zoom" feature with a shrinking distance bar on the left so it's really hard to miss a turn.

Hey man, I just wanted to let you know that you can have the text to speech to say street names as well. You have to go into the Navi settings, select the voice option and then select the US English (Samantha) voice that says TTS. Then it will begin to say the names of the roads. Enjoy!!!

    Thanks Man.

I tried it and it seems to announce more street names (not all though). But did you notice that this voice is choppy and "garbbly" ...just like the VR voice?

  5. Ok.

So once in a while when I accelerate off the line at a stop light I'll hear this *ding ding* (cutting out the music) and the message "Drive Safely!" appears. I know this is supposed to show if you accelerate too fast as a warning but I'm doing a slow acceleration like 0-40 in 5 seconds and it still shows!?

Can I turn this message off?

    Thanks,

    D.

  6. Your going to have to enter all of your contacts in as favorites on the unit.

I realize that is probably my only option. However, the main issue with this is when I have 300+ favorites stored in my Nav there is no way I can quickly search for a particular contact (Example: Searching for "Chad Smith" can only be done by sorting alphabetically and then scrolling down page after page after page etc.) .... unless you know of a quicker way??

    Thanks.

  7. Hey There,

I have over 300 contacts that I need to store in my NAV favorites list. Problem. There is no "search" field in the Favorites section so the only way I can sort through my contacts to find the right address is by the "sort" field which is alphabetical etc. There is a search field for the POI but I can't store my contacts as POI's.

How do I get around this. It sucks having to type in every address I want to go to manually each time.

    D.

  8. So...

I have been trying to do a couple of things on the 920BT NAV with no luck. I need to store about 300 address contacts (I believe this unit holds up to 400) as I travel quite a bit. I can't seem to "search" through these contacts under the "Favorites" section where they are stored. Instead, this AVIC only seems to give you sorting options which don't help and make you hit the page down button over and over and over....

I also can't seem to save my own POI's.... oh wait.... is that a AVIC FEEDS issue??? Because I know there is a "SPELL NAME" button under the POI section which would solve my problem.

  9. Can anyone tell me, after how many seconds (after turning on your car) the music starts to play if you use microSD-Cards?

On my F900BT it takes about 45sek to one minute...

    Hey,

So I went out and tested this for you today. I used a 4 GB Micro SD card and loaded it with about 100 songs (Dragged and dropped directly from iTunes) just to test.

After the usual screen start up I just went to the AV source and picked "SD" and it showed my song list and started play back right away.

If I had the AV source set to SD before shutting off the car, the next time I started the car the songs started playback immediately...during the start up screen. It's a really cool feature!

  10. Well...

I found this Pioneer remote CD-SR1. I don't know if it will work with the AVIC-X920BT AND I'm not a big fan of attaching a round remote to the wheel with straps but it is an option if it will work and also keep my factory controls.

I wonder how that is connected to the PAC-SWI-PS??

  11. There is info on this forum that will answer your questions.

    Hey VBLUE,

I spent a long time looking for the posts related to the steering wheel buttons I was referring to. Maybe I should have been a little more clear. My question was... is there a way to add "third party" buttons to your steering wheel that will work in conjunction with your factory steering wheel controls? I understand that you can program the "PAC-SWI-PS" to change your existing steering wheel buttons to control VR, call pick up and call hang up but I can only give up 1 of the factory buttons (I have vol up/down, track up/down, mute and mode)...mode is the only one I can switch but it still leaves me short.

I have attached a photo of the example I am talking about. These buttons are not third party buttons but it would be great if you could buy these and put them on your steering wheel and connect them to the PAC-SWI-PS at the same time to control everything without giving up any factory controls.

    Does this make sense???

    Thanks,

    D.

    IMG_0126.jpg

  12. You know that is a good question. If the green call pick up icon lights, you should be able to touch it and switch to the other call. If it doesn't I would assume that is not a supported feature.

Actually, the Nav display just shows buttons of the call I am on already.... you know, the hang up button, and volume controls of the current call. When the second call comes in nothing on the display changes but I hear my phone cutting out indicating another call is coming in. I guess this would just be considered a Non-Feature.

    D.

  13. Hey, I would love to find a button or something that I could put on my steering wheel that would replace the VR button on the Nav or at least answer phone calls when they come in.

From what I hear the MusicShere, Pandora and AVIC Feeds are not available for the X920BT yet.

    D.

  14. I have the same issue. Apparently the X920BT requires the add-on MSN tuner ND-MDT10 to allow you to get MSN Direct.

..which totally blows. I saw that add-on part selling for $100!? Doesn't seem worth it for something that will be dead in 1 year.

    D.

  15. Yes. This is a carry over from the Z110BT that we verified over a year ago. The 920 has the same bug in the software. Hit the map OK button before BT connects and BT calling will always work flawlessly.

This forum is great! Thanks VBLUE. I just tested this out on the 920BT 4 separate times with and without hitting the OK button and you are correct! I would be going nuts right now if you didn't provide the info.

Any other "bugs" I should be aware of? :D

Actually, I do have a question... "Is there a way to answer a "call waiting" phone call while you are already on a hands-free call? I heard the tone indicating that I had another call on the line but had no way to get to it from the Nav display?

    D.

  16. The problem is related to the BT connecting before the map OK button is pressed. In this case, when you get in your car, just go to the BT contact transfer screen and re-transfer your contacts. That should clear up the issue.

Hey, thanks for the heads up. I was going to put another post because I noticed that when I first drove my car to go shopping this morning the VR wouldn't recognize my commands to "Call" my friend. This went on for 10 minutes with no connection. So I gave up trying. After I finished shopping I decided to time how long it took to sync my phone to the NAV and have the VR work for contact commands and it was fully up and running AND WORKNIG within 1 minute.

So you are saying that the phone should NOT sync via Bluetooth to the Nav BEFORE the "map warning ok" is pressed?

    Hmmm... I'll try it.

    Thanks,

    D.

  17. NOTE**

I just discovered that if you have a remote starter and have the car start up without your Bluetooth phone near by to sync the VR will take MUCH longer to recognize voice commands for your contacts. You will hear the dreaded "I'm sorry, I didn't understand? etc."

All you need to do is turn off your Bluetooth on your phone and turn it on again and the VR - Voice Recognition should be ready to go in a very short while.

    D.

The rear camera works great and there are some cool features like splitting the display to show half rear view and half nav to show you a constant visual of what is behind you while driving (for ex. towing a boat behind you)

The shop that installed the unit spent a lot of time testing different placements for the hands-free mic and the best result on a Forester 2010 is just to the left of the rear view mirror at top. The clarity of the hands free is amazing with no echo and everyone I speak to over the hands free can't even tell that I'm speaking in my car (The Forester is known for bad wind/ road noise)

The USB that was installed replaced the "Aux" Jack that was in the centre console and now has USB/AUX plug made specific for iPod etc. The integration of the iPod or any USB device is fantastic! Some new "finger" scrolling features on this unit make it a breeze to navigate your playlists.... along with the "MusicShere" which I am still waiting for... actually, in Canada we are also waiting for a version of the AVIC FEEDS which will work with this unit. I tried everything but the current version does not work. However, I did manage to get the Splash Screen images to upload. !!Please note: the resolution has to be 800 x 480!!

Steering wheel controls work flawlessly. I believe this is a third party control switch called PAC SWI-PS - Pioneer and Sony Steering Wheel Radio Control Interface

I had the bypass done so I can let my front seat passenger watch movies while driving. Also, this bypass allows you to enter and change navigation addresses while in drive as well... although, I would never do such a thing for safety reasons! :)

Some things that aren't so cool... First, that 1980's Mac computer style female voice that is known as the "VR - Voice Recognition" feature. And I believe it is true that the more you use the Voice Recognition the more consistent and accurate it becomes. At first, I had a lot of trouble getting the VR to recognize phone book contacts but it turns out I didn't let the VR sync to my Blackberry Bluetooth long enough the first time. Now it syncs to my phone in seconds! Tip: Be patient when you first get this unit to sync with your phone over bluetooth and if you change a lot of contacts on your phone be sure to delete the contacts on the X920BT and re-transfer your contacts from your phone to the X920BT.

You can't use the Pandora feature in Canada so for those who are keeping track, this unit is very similar to the Z110BT without the AVIC FEEDS etc. I chose this unit because I REALLY wanted to get an after market Nav that looked as "factory" as possible. The larger screen on the Z110BT would be better for watching DVDs but I heard it was a larger target for theft. Maybe? Maybe not? Either way, I'm SO happy with this unit and highly recommend it!

    Thanks,

    D.

  19. Hey all,

I just got the X920 installed in my vehicle a few days ago. I encountered the same issue with cataloging time - after a few minutes of starting up the car, VR does not seem to be able to access the contacts. Though it can understand navigation and multimedia commands, it says it doesn't understand if I try to phone someone. Today, I just found out what this problem was. It seems to be a matter of allowing enough time to catalog the entries. I transferred about 480 contacts today after getting a new BlackBerry, and it took about 25 minutes before it understood VR commands for phone calls. Even after the initial catalog time, it also seems to take a few minutes after starting the car each time before I can access contacts and VR commands for the phone.

  20. CamelTowing, great tip on submitting missing addresses to TeleAtlas! Finally, I may be able to have my new house listed on a GPS!

I have decided to get the AVIC-X920BT. I kinda like the buttons on the left side because it will make my dash look more "factory" (if that makes sense to you). I also like the slot-load on the top of the unit vs. the mechanical flip down face. I know I'm in the minority on this one but everyone is different.

This unit will be slightly more money than the 110BT but will have the new features and I don't want to wait for the 120BT (which looks to be almost identical to the 920BT). Perfect.

By the way, the info on this site is amazing! I already downloaded a ton of splash screens (and I don't even have the unit yet) and there is no way I could have decided on the right unit if you guys (especially VBLUE) didn't provide all the necessary details.

    Thanks again.
