  1. So, how's that hack goin????

For what its worth, I just tried the old code and it took the 30% off - so 124.49 but Sept/Oct delivery?

Is it really worth it? I really am not of fan of the GPS capability of this 110 to begin with!

I hear ya. I jumped at the Amazon 129.49 deal cause it was a lot better than @200+shipping - which was out of the question. I figure I've got about 2-3 weeks to decide if I really want it or I can canx it. Don't need new maps for my current usage, and I have an iPod - not iPhone, so Pandora is useless. Not even sure if I like that Sphere thing - I just play my tunes using large playlists (400-500 per list) with random shuffle. I already have enough distractions driving - so a splashy user interface is not going to help.

I was really looking for some fixes of annoying "features" - like poor VR and long VR catalog times. If the new version does little-to-nothing to fix that, then I'll put that buck&1/4 towards buying some nice performance mod for my new car (a new sport exhaust would be music to my ears and maybe feel it in my butt too).

  2. Sorry for getting seriously off topic but I tried the "AYLPEFW7" code for the "Pioneer CD-IU50V USB Interface Cable for iPod/iPhone" and it didn't work. There may be some kind of restriction on the code.

    Cheers,

    Jason

Was the seller Amazon.com??? The code won't work if it is a 3rd party seller, as has been stated several times already in this and similar threads. UPDATE..... I just tried adding this item (sold by Amazon) and used the code "AYLPEFW7", it didn't work. So you are right, there are restrictions on which Pioneer products qualify. However, I added an AVIC Z120-BT and it did take 30% off. Unfortunately, I don't need another.

  3. Definitely do it today. Since it won't ship for another month, you can always cancel if you change your mind. Thanks for the tip - and the coupon code "UIBMC8UY". Sweet deal.

Hmmm. I wonder if this discount is to clear out Pioneer's inventory of the older version, since they also released a patch update (2.003). It will be interesting to see which version ships.

  4. Are you sure about the MP3 format being the same as the ones that play? Bit-rate (8-320kbps), sample rate, compression - there are various MP3 compressions - such as mp3 PRO. ID3 tag version? And of course DRM flag.

Try copying the files to an SD card and playing them that way. If they play, then it must be the ipod. You may need to convert them - use something like Media Monkey. Not sure if iTunes can do it, I avoid it like the plague.

  5. How do you update just the bluetooth? I don't want the full $200 update as it sounds like more trouble than benefits.

I don't have the files in front of me, but here is the general idea. Download the SD images. SD1 has the 3.10 F/W, SD2 has 3.11. You only need SD2 AFAIK. Copy the files from the SD2 image to your SD card. I think it has a directory called "Firmware\BT". Copy this to the root of your SD.

Insert the SD card into the Z110, go to Bluetooth settings menu and scroll down to "Firmware Update". It should find and update the AVIC BT. It takes about 5 minutes and it will wipe out all of your pairings.

I had some audio quality problems after the update - stereo audio sounded like AM radio quality, but that mysteriously went away later.

About the same time, I changed phones to an HTC HD2. The HD2 presented many BT profiles that seem to be supported by the BT in the Z110 HU - besides the normal Hands Free and Stereo Audio. I think they included Serial 1 & 2, File Transfer, Object Exchange, SIM access. These weren't there with my old phone, so I went crazy and selected all of them. That's when I noticed the stereo audio quality issue. BTW, the hands-free phone seemed great - much better than b4, but that was an old phone. Anyway, I eventually got the stereo working fine, I reset my phone to factory, and paired using only the Hands Free (HFP) and Stereo Audio (A2DP) profiles. Not sure if that was the fix, or just a coincidence.

This time the streaming audio from my phone & MP3s sounded much better - at least FM quality, although the music from my iPod (wired) sounded better.

According the the Z120-BT manual, it is still BT 2.0+EDR, same as before. So no telling what the differences are with this update. In hindsite, I seen no reason for updating. It is possible that the new Z120 application takes advantage of some new features, but for us Z110 people, don't bother.

  6. Well, maybe I'm the only one to try flashing just the BT update off the downloaded SD image. Anyway, I've been living with this for about 1 week. Yesterday, I was updating the ROM firmaware in my phone (HTC HD2), which wiped out all my pairings - and most everything else.

When I re-paired with the AVIC, I immediately noticed an improvement in the quality of streaming audio and MP3s. Sounded like FM radio again - instead of low quality AM. BTW, I never noticed a degradation of hands-free audio. It was only "phone quality" to begin with. I wonder if the two profiles use a different bit-rate.

Now I don't think the new phone F/W fixed anything - since it was working fine before I updated BT on the AVIC. I also don't know if I did anything different in the pairing procedure than the several attempts at re-pairing last week.

So, I am posting mainly to assure all that updating just the BT to 3.11 off the SDs was possible and had no ill affects. But, frankly, I wouldn't recommend it unless you are having BT problems that you hope to fix with new Parrot software. I really didn't see anything new there - feature wise.

  7. How do you make it say the streets? Mine doesnt do that

You need to use the TTS voice

Right, and I don't think this is new. I never used the TextToSpeach voice because it sounded so mechanical and it mis-pronounces most names anyway.

But I thought the previous poster said he couldn't change the voice - or maybe he wanted to change the gender of the TTS voice?

  8. 1st a question... Has anyone else just downloaded SD2 (from a link somewhere else on this board) and updated only the Bluetooth to 3.11?? BTW, this skips the Z120-BT F/W and BT 3.10 updates.

I had read conflicting info about whether this would work.

Besides hands-free phoning, I really like to play streaming internet and MP3s from the phone over the BT connection. The quality was excellent. So after the update, I tried connecting and playing an MP3. It sounded horrible - like a cheap AM radio. Streaming internet was also distorted - with no fidelity. Like a very low bit-rate compression.

So, back to my question...has anyone else done this? If so, how did it work for you?

I wonder if there is a way to go back of the original BT (ver 2.5, I think)? Maybe the 3.11 update is just a patch of 3.10 and not a full release?

Otherwise, I guess I need to purchase the full update.
