  1. RonS, I actually have a X9310BT and through the 2016 upgrade I updated the unit to X940BT. I've followed the instructions after reading the forum, and at first I did not play with the files at all, all I did was placed the 3 files onto the root of a 4GB SD card, but the machine will not go into update mode. I'm not that savvy when it comes to the Testmode so I didn't try the hack. I guess I will have to wait....

Technically, you can never "upgrade" the unit to X940bt. You have a X9310BT running v5.x or v6.0 software. The internal model doesn't change.

But never mind, since you got to the prompt to enter the password, you are past all that CardInfo stuff. So it sounds like you never installed the ShortFuse hack and you can't get past the password prompt when you try to install the updated maps.

Go back and look at the ShortFuse hack thread. I added a simpler way to install the hack using a script. It is very easy and you don't need to use TestMode. Once you run the script (automatically runs when you insert the hack SD), you can then insert the map update SD and reboot your unit if it doesn't restart on it's own. When the update asks for the password, enter PASSWORDPASSWORD (or anything else if you wish). Be warned that the update will fail if you modified any files on the map SD except for CardInfo.CIF.

  2. Thank you very much to RonS and nezfotnemom for the maps and instructions!

I have a quick question. I was able to install the 2017 maps without any issues, but I now notice that my GPS signal is out of whack. It seems like it isn't accurate and is having trouble "locking" the current location. Should I try to take out the radio fuse to hard reboot? I have a XB930BT.

Yes, I would try that. I don't know why that would happen and you're the first to report a problem like that. I had to reset mine due to some odd iPod issue. But I didn't have a problem with GPS.

  3. I'm trying this now and getting the infamous "Incorrect SD card" error at the end of installation --

    * z130BT, starting with v6 (2015 maps?)

    * I ran the Shortfuse script, worked like a charm ... thanks! :)

    * Downloaded, unzipped and loaded the 2017 files onto an SD card.  Overwrote Navi.exe with the Nag-free version.  Popped it in, used the special password, and it went through the installation all the way up to "90% - 3 minutes left" and then said "Incorrect SD card installed ... please install the correct one.".

Apparently you didn't read the No-Nag instructions.

Note: Install the 2017 map update before installing this hack. Do not change the file on the 2017 installation SD. If you do, the installation will fail. You will get the dreaded "Wrong SD" error. So I edited it with it bold red letters. Rebuild your installation SD from the zipped archive.

  4. After many tries, i finally succeeded with the update on my f930bt. Used a 2 gb sd for the shortfuse hack and after that the 8gb sd witch is always in my unit. I got at first the error wrong sd. After new format and freshly extracted update files the unit finally accepted the sd. The 8 gb sd was formatted as fat32/32 clusters. other fat32 my unit didn't accept. I hope its helpfull for someone. Many thanks at RonS and Godzilla!

I've had good luck with 4 GB SDs formatted FAT32 with default cluster size. I think most updates from Pioneer/HERE are either 4 or 8 GB. Although the applications can read bigger capacities, I think the boot and loader software is only smart enough to handle a limited subset of disks. Glad you persisted and made it work.

  5. I'm trying to update my X940BT, after downloading the update I simply unzip all the files and place them into the root of the SD card, which was formatted to FAT32, the SD card had these 3 files Firmware, Update and CARDINFO.cif. The unit will not initiate the update!!! any thoughts??

Are you sure you have a X940? What does it say on the bezel? The set of files posted were for Z130/Z140/X930/X940. I posted a separate Cardinfo for the Z110/Z120/X920. I hope you didn't d/l that and over-write the good one. No matter,  you just made more work for yourself.

Tried a different CARDINFO.cif file from my 2015 update, and it does take me to update but asking for a password which I don't have, any help will be much appreciated.

What did you expect? Did you enter a password? Did you even install the hack or read the thread?

  6. The big concern I have at the moment is this explicit warning from the 5.100 upgrade instructions document, considering I have a Z120...

Have warnings like this been safe to ignore in the past? I haven't discovered the right search terms yet that might lead me to where people are discussing whether it was worthwhile or even possible to apply this update to their Z120s, or anything not a Z140. Oh hey, I should have just browsed the old fashioned way. There are threads around. Looks like its probably just a waste of time.

I just looked at the Z110, Z120, X920 2017 update document and it doesn't mention anything about installing those Lightning patches. So it is possible that they are only required for the Z140 (one time only). I remember that the year that the Z140 came out, Pioneer wasn't ready for Lightning support, and they rushed the v4.6 patch out to add support for the original Z140 software (v4.0). But the next maps were already out so they released a second patch (v5.1) for those who already updated to v5.0.  What I don't know for sure is if  the next annual map update for Z1110/Z120 had that patch built-in to the update .

BTW, no matter what version of software you are running, the original hardware model number stays the same far as Pioneer is concerned.

  7. i patched my USER\PRG0\APL\RenewalIFLib.dll file on HU (in accordance with second method) and tried to map update but process freezed on %93 and asking "proper sd" before.

i unzipped shortfusescript.zip to my sd, insert the sd to my HU, and follow the instructions (after "ready to update" notice) i restart the HU (9220), HU was asking "proper sd card" and i inserted other (update sd card) and after a few second HU reasked "proper sd card".

    ???

which part is wrong i m surprised

The shortfuse hack only needs to be installed once. If you start the map update and it accepts the Pioneer password, you are done with the hack. That's all it does. It has no direct relation to the map update failing. Your problem is already addressed in the 2017 F series update thread. Your map update SD probably has missing files because you didn't enter the zip password (from godzilla) using single quotes.

  8. Will this include the fix for Lightning connectors that came around for the Z140? Is there any reason or need to install any of the previous upgrades or patches? I'm paranoid after reading talk of that in the 2015 thread.

    I have a Z120 upgraded to the Z130 Version/Platform Version 3.000, Application Version 3.001, Bluetooth 3.22.

There is a section addressing this in the installation manual. See post #15 for the links. I encourage you to read it and the Bluetooth instructions. My iPod is too old so I haven't followed this issue closely, However I recall that the Lightning patches (either 4.6 or 5.1) need to be installed before upgrading to 6 or 7. Some system files get modified that are not part of the map update release. So you are wise to take care of it first. I'll let someone who actually knows this stuff take it from there.

  9.     Ok I just don't get it.   I have tried this 4 times now and still I am unable to get it to work.  I'm using two SD Cards, one for the script and the other for the 2017 update.  The one with the script does its thing then says done, insert upgrade.  I then put in the update card and nothing happens.  Now when I did the 2013 upgrade it went smooth as silk.  But the 2017 is being a problem child for me.  Any suggestions?

First, the script does not say to insert the upgrade SD. It says you can install the update.  Those are two separate things. The hack just  prepares your unit to bypass the Pioneer registration/password checking.

Second, if it does nothing, then you have the wrong cardinfo.cif file or your update files are not  in the correct directories.  What model is your unit?  I'm moving your post to 2017 US/Can maps thread.

  10. I wrote a simple script that will delete the security PASSWORD for most Win CE based F, Z, and X series units. I can't say whether it will work with the very old units, and it won't work with the model numbers ending in 50 or greater,  or Nex units. If your model isn't included, look elsewhere (don't post here) -there's probably already a thread in the proper sub-forum for your unit.

No need to install Condi's Hackmode or learn the complexities of TestMode. It removes the password entirely - unlocking the unit. It also saves the existing PASSWORD.DAT file (on the SD) before removing it.

Please post all  comments  in the original thread (linked above) so it is easier to monitor.

  11. I created a thread in the Z series that presents an automated script to remove the security password on many WinCE based units. It should work fine for the X series - X910, X920, X930, X940. I don't know if it will work for the X900 or the X700 units.

I'm closing this thread so all comments should be posted in the original thread.

  12. today i tried to update my F920BT.

Everything went fine until it came to 93% and 2 minutes left.

A message came up saying: wrong SD card. please insert correct SD card.

Where did you get the modified file RenewallFlib.dll?

Did you make the changes mentioned in the 2015 thread?

You don't need a different RenewallFlib.dll.  If you got that far, the ShortFuse hack succeeded.  These "Wrong SD" errors are caused because something is wrong with your map installation files.

I can think of two likely causes.

    • The zip password incorrectly entered when extracting godzilla's files. . If you don't surround it with single quotes (') some of the files will not be extracted and will be missing. IDK why he planted that bomb in there, but it just shows people aren't very good at following detailed instructions.
    • Some people replaced or modified RenewallFlib.dll on the installation SD. Nowhere in the detailed instructions does it say to do that.

People, don't modify any files on the Map Update SD - with the possible exception of CardInfo.CIF. If you modify files on the SD, the CRC won't match the original files and the installation will fail.  Go back to the files from the original (godzilla) zip and extract them. Also be sure to surround his password with single quotes. Then start the installation over.

  13. I’m not adverse to cycling the power. I did exactly as you say and get to the password screen. Whatever i put in for a password does not work. That’s why i thought i might have done something wrong

It sounds like the hack didn't install. When you ran it,  the first thing it should do is present the message PRESS ANY KEY TO START OR TURN OFF IGNITION TO ABORT. What is supposed to happen is you should press one of the hardware buttons like Vol - or +, or <. >.  If you turn off the ignition then it won't install the hack. At that time, you can't re-run the hack script without rebuilding the SD from the zipped files. TestMode.key is deleted from the SD to prevent accidentally rerunning.

So, it isn't clear to me if you ever got past the above message. If you decide re-try the script, I recommend using a different SD because it saves the original RenewalIFLib.dll files (from PRG0 and PRG1) on the SD. To be 100% safe, you should keep the backed-up files.

However, if it sensed a keypress you should see a message Installation will start in 5 seconds... and then BACKING-UP EXISTING RenewalIFLib.dll FILES. Do you remember seeing such messages? I'm trying to get an idea if the script even ran.

  14. How do i manually update from that screen without powering off? None of the buttons seem to do anything on that screen

I don't understand why you are adverse to cycling the power. Nothing bad will happen even with the ShortFuse script SD inserted. However the screen will open if you press and hold the eject button for about 5 seconds. Then you can remove the ShortFuse SD. Then turn the ignition off.

You can continue to use your unit as usual. When you are ready to do the update, insert the map update SD.

  15. A simple way to permanently delete your unit's security password. No Condi Hackmode or TestMode commands needed.

I wrote a simple script that will delete the security PASSWORD for most Win CE based F, Z, and X series units. I can't say whether it will work with the very old units, and it won't work with the model numbers ending in 50 or greater,  or Nex units. If your model isn't included, there is an alternate method that works with some NEX and AVH models. Service Password Method

    1. Format a smallish SD (32 GB or less) Must be FAT32 format.
    2. Download and Unzip the file attached at the bottom of this post.
    3. Copy the unzipped files into the root of the SD  (TestMode.key and ScriptExec.ini from my zip).
    4. No other files on the SD. Eject it from your PC and insert into your AVIC. If nothing happens after 5 seconds. turn off your ignition for a few seconds, then turn it on.
    5. You should see a prompt to press any key. Press any button (volume-+ or trk <,>).
    6. Done. Remove the SD and restart your unit. No more password.

Note that the TestMode.KEY included here is only used to run scripts. It will not put your unit into the Maintenance menu. Also note that the script copies your existing PASSWORD.DAT file to the SD - just in case. So make sure it is not write-protected.

And a word of advice - In the future, don't set a password. It is no deterrent to a thief since there is no visible indicator that it has a password lock.(he will smash your window and destroy your dash regardless). Plus, he'll find this thread and unlock it. So save yourself the hassle a year from now when your car battery dies and you can't remember the password.

  16. After i run the shortfuse it says to insert sd with map update. So i do, and nothing happens. The unit just sits there on the black screen that says the shortfuse worked. I have a z130 by the way.

Yes, that's what it does. BTW, it doesn't say to "insert the sd wiith the map update".  It says "Now eject your SD and install your map update."  That just means to proceed with the normal map installation update procedure. Restart your unit manually with the map update inserted.  I updated the script to make it more obvious.

If it still doesn't do anything when you insert the map SD, you need a different CardInfo.cif .

  17. How about F920BT?

    Official update info:

    2017 European Map Update for Pioneer MY09/10 - AVIC-F10BT, F20BT, F920BT, F9210BT, F9220BT - Catalog # T1000-25815

    2017 European Map Update for Pioneer MY11/12 - AVIC-F30BT, F930BT, F9310BT, F40BT, F940BT, F840BT, F8430BT - Catalog # T1000-25817

Godzilla version is the second one. First one is here but i think nobody has tested it.

At least one person was successful installing godzilla's version on a F20bt by editing the CardInfo.CIF file. He posted the file. I think you could also use the CardInfo from a previous version that worked for your unit. IIRC, the 2015 maps had CardInfo files posted.

  18. Anyone ever find a fix for this??

There is no magic pill - cure-all for this issue. It likely is an installation issue which will vary for each vehicle. Is your antenna in the windshield? Is the antenna amp power wire connected? Is your antenna grounded? I'm no expert on this stuff but those are the most likely issues beyond what I posted above.

While it could be a problem with your head unit, you need to eliminate everything else first. If you can't figure it out, take it to a car electronics specialty shop.

  19. Have you tried pulling the power connector out, then back in? And make sure you eject the sd card that has the firmware update on it, as the unit will continue reading it at boot time.

You're answering a ~ 2yr old post. BTW, I doubt that would do much if it crashed during F/W update.

  20. I'm not sure how that is suppose to help.

    Having the same issue myself.

It makes perfect sense.  The original problem is - your AVIC is asking for a password. Someone stupidly wrote detailed instructions on how to remedy that problem but that dangerously instructs you to install HackMode.  The rest of the instructions were detailed and safe. Blake's comment on post #151 shows the safe way to do it while avoiding installing HackMode. So it might save you from getting knee-deep in shit. If it doesn't make sense to you - you're already in over your head.
