  1. Thanks for your help RonS... Finally had a little time to get back to this but unfortunately I haven't been able to get into Testmode to access those files, using hold on home, then previous, forward, previous, forward, previous, forward. As of now if I input a destination it will briefly indicate an eta, as well as green route outline, but no short-distance indicator screen, or voice directives. Coincidentally I've since installed an X920-BT in another vehicle that works perfectly so now I'm even more stumped!

That's not how you get into TestMode on a X930-BT. Download this file supertestmode.zip to a PC, unzip it, put TestMode.key on a FAT32 formatted SD, and insert it in your unit.

  2. There's not enough information here to begin to diagnose this. My first thought is that this is a signal issue. That could be caused by an antenna issue, or a sensitivity setting in the headunit.  If it isn't one or the other, its a hardware problem in the headunit.  That usually means sending it to a technician.

If you've got a manual, look at the FM tuner section. If don't have a manual, download one from Pioneer.

First question I have is what station frequency does it keep returning to?  Is it 87.9 or 107.9? (assuming a US unit). That might indicate that the tuner could not find a frequency which it could lock onto. Those are the end points of this tuner's FM frequencies.

On the FM screen there is a signal strength indicator for the tuned station. Of course, if it is tuned to a non-existing station, there will be a poor (or none) signal strength. Unfortunately the manual doesn't show how to interpret this indicator, but the screen-shot does show what it should look like with a good signal.

On the bottom-left corner of the FM screen, touch the gears icon (Settings), then touch [Local] then touch [On]. Make note of the sensitivity level (1-4), then set it to 1. The higher the number the more filtering the tuner does (eliminating weak stations). Level 4 eliminates all but very strong stations.

Exit out of settings and try tuning to a station manually. Does it work better? If no change (or even only a little better), go back into the settings/Local and turn if Off. The try tuning again. If no (or only slight) improvement,  I'd next look at your antenna. You may need to remove the headunit to inspect the wiring.

It is possible the antenna connection is loose. If your antenna is in the window glass it is amplified and might be powered by the headunit (depending on how it was initially installed). The headunit's power wire (blue wire in the power harness) might of become disconnected. It is possible the installer used some other fused switched power source, So you'd need to check your wiring.  It is also possible that the antenna's ground wire is loose. Or maybe the antenna is faulty. I don't know how to diagnose this. A stereo shop might have instruments to test this.

If none of the above fixes or significantly changes the symptoms, it is likely that your hardware tuner is malfunctioning. If you are technical enough to service the unit yourself,  you likely wouldn't be here asking for help. So I'd recommend sending it for repair.

  3. Could be several things. I almost never use my radio, so you might need to look-up in the manual. Sounds like the tuner is seeking a frequency lock. There is a setting that affects tuner sensitivity. It might be accessed through the gear (settings) icon on the bottom of the FM screen.

Do you get any stations while it is seeking? Any sound from the radio?

Can you manually tune? I don't mean presets - there is a manual tune up/down.

Also could be a problem with the antenna. Is yours amplified? Could be the power or coax wire unplugged.

Or your tuner could be shot.

Before tearing it out, try a hard reset (disconnect battery) or a factory reset. You'll loose several settings.

  4. Hello everyone,

A few days ago I seen a video that shows how to set up the x930bt and choose not to use a password on start-up.  I recently moved my x930bt from my truck to my transit-connect work van which has a great security system with it, so I would like to remove my current password (which I setup and know, and use regularly).  Can anyone tell me how I go about doing this?  Thanks for stopping in.

See posts 299 and 300. Password recovery
  5. I know this is an extremely old post but I figured I'd ask here rather than starting a brand new repeat thread.  Does the auto eq on the pioneers care if a micro-bypass is wired or not?  I'm about to install a 4200NEX and I'm wondering if I should wire in the bypass first or try the autoeq first and then add the bypass.

Auto-eq has nothing to do with the bypass. Where I was going before with my question (until he started jerking me off) was that many menu options are inaccessible (grayed-out) if the parking brake is not set. This would not apply if he had the parking brake bypassed.

  6. It currently has 8.01 on it. I can't find a lot of information on why the files aren't recognized, or if they're even necessary once the update gets performed. But it seems like this is the most important part of the update since it's the only way to get it.

Yes, I believe it is necessary to support Lightning cables. uCom is the microcomputer software. I believe that would include low level drivers. However, as I said, I never manually updated my unit. After installing 6.0, I now have uCom v8.12. So I assume that the v6 update loaded it.

I'll let you decide whether that means it is safe to go ahead. Maybe someone else has some experience with this.

  7. On the uCom Forced Write screen, what version does it show under uCom? Oddly, the instructions don't ever say to do anything other than check that version 8.05 is installed.

BTW, I have never been able to get forced write to read from an SD. But I don't use a Lightning cable for my old iTouch.

  8. Hi Ron,

Yes the volume and track buttons do work.

I have the stereo apart for the 10th time. Just triple checking all soldering points. everything looks good and clean.

the dvd drive works when i supply power to the motor.

i can get the face open when my screw driver.

and i did download the file you send already. I can get into the menu but when i select the one for hard buttons, its just blank. no writing at all.

I didnt buy it from ebay, I got it from a pick and pull. $150 and I got the avic z110bt and all cables, Alpine flip down10'' monitor, 3 Jl audio amps and 2 alpine typr r subs. The car was just bought from auction and I was the first one there.

I'm not into it for alot of money it's just driving me crazy why half the unit works. even the touch screen works flawless!!

OK, so it looks like you have some hardware skills and equipment. I'm not much use with diagnosing hardware problems, but here is a Z110BT Service Manual that might help. http://avic411.com/files/Z110BTServiceManual.pdf

  9. Just to verify, are you saying that those hard buttons are never working? Do any work? (Vol +/- or Trk < >)   It sounds like a hardware problem. It has nothing to do with the parking brake bypass. You might ba able to get parts, but unless you have pretty good electronics skills, you'd need to send it for repairs.

Without the eject button working, you might not be able to run the diagnostics in TestMode. I've never tried it, but maybe you can run TestMode from a USB jump drive. In Testmode, there is a way to test the buttons.

To get into Testmode, download  SUPERTESTMODE.ZIP, then unzip. Copy Testmode.key onto FAT32 formatted SD or USB device and insert/connect.

BTW, I think you mean Mode, not Menu.

If it was me, I'd demand my money back. If you bought off ebay, contest the sale unless it was listed 'as is'.

  10. Hi guys,

I just bought a used f950bt, it worked very well but I pressed the security key in the parameters which has the effect of blocking some of the functions. As I did not know how to remove this mode, I unplugged the battery to reset. But when I switched on I can not type the code because the keyboard is disconnected. Yes i am idiot

I installed the testmode but I do not know how to activate the keyboard. who can help me

    Yann

    Try setting the parking brake.
  11. I have a X930Bt and changed my battery and now I am locked out because I can't remember my password. I have entered everything but the kitchen sink. Any help you could give me would greatly be appreciated.

Do not install anything - especially Hackmode. You'll have a 50% chance of bricking your unit. Search for and download to your PC  supertestmode.zip and extract testmode.key from the zip. Put that on your FAT32 SD and insert into the headunit.

This procedure erases any password in X and Z series headunits. The basic steps are:

    • Put SD into HU
    • Boot into Testmode
    • Go to File Maintenance
    • Navigate  to USER\SYSTEM\SECURITY
    • Delete PASSWORD.DAT
    • Remove the SD
    • Restart the unit

As I have noted in many posts, don't password protect your unit. It won't stop a thief and will just be a big PITA in the future.

  12. Good evening,

I have a AVIC-920BT that i bricked a few years ago. I was trying to copy the boot file and i acidently pasted it over itself. When booting the unit, the screen says "Thers is no application software" but the backup camera still works. I can put it into test mode and see all the files but i will need a new file to copy on to the unit. Anyone have any ideas?

Several. What file did you clobber?

Have you tried switching to the reserve program directory? Does /USER/PRG.FLG exist? If so delete it. If not create it.

Have you tried installing the latest software (v6 2015 maps)?

  13. I did that. On most devices it is a light green wire connected to GND.

I don't have an F series, so IDK if that bypass method works. On my Z series, you need to add a wire to the harness and ground both (green and new). On the  Z, you can tell whether the PB is detected by going to Settings / Navi Settings / Connection Status. Your's probably does too.

  14. Hello,

    Did you fix your issue?

I have a peugeot 308 and in my case, I get:

    - lights off: night mode

    - lights on: day mode

    - auto : night mode under light & day mode in the darkness (which is the opposite it should work)

    Regards.

It seems to me that your Illumination wire is connected to the wrong source. Go to Settings/Navi Settings/Connection Status. The value of "Illumination" should be "Off" during daytime and "On" at night. Normally "day" is defined as running lights off, and "night" as running lights on. This is all controlled by the orange/white wire. If it has 0 volts, the head unit thinks it is daytime. Otherwise it is night.

Most people tap this wire to a running light power wire. However if your car has DRL, this gets more complicated.

BTW, there are two independent functions that can be triggered by the illumination  mode:

    • the display brightness is less at night (there are configurable video settings for each video source for both day and night.
    • optionally, the maps change to (sort of) inverse video at night. This is controlled by Settings/Map Settings/Day-Night Display. When set to "Automatic" the map colors switch to night when the illumination wire has voltage.  When set to "Day" the map always uses the daytime color settings regardless of the illumination wire voltage.

So verify that the Illumination mode is correct for Lights On and Off. If the value is wrong, then the problem is with your wiring. There's noting you can change in the head unit to correct this.

I recently changed how my unit operated. My orange/white with was connected to my tail-light power. Instead, I connected it to a Photosensor board. So it is now triggered by the ambient light in the car, rather than the state of my running lights. The circuit board is hidden under the dash.  I mounted the photo-resistor sensor in a small gap between my dash and the roof pillar. It is shaded from stray ambient light like oncoming headlights or street lights. The sensitivity is adjustable. I set it to turn on only when it is very dark.

So now, if I'm driving with lights on during the day (like in the rain or fog), I still can see the headunit display clearly.

  15. Thanks for the response, I am using the one brown one, it's the one that has the yellow tag on which says reverse camera in if I remember, it has a small amount of cable which comes out the HU. I also tried it in the secondary yellow AV input which is just the socket, then set the setting to 2nd camera input use as reverse which also didn't work. Really am at the end of my teather as I'm all out of ideas.

I'm talking about the one in the installation manual.http://catalogs.pioneer-car.eu/Manuals/AVIC_F88DAB_CRD4952_installation_manual/

The brown one here. No yellow tag. That's the other one.

You should plug your camera RCA directly into this.

The installation manual also indicates a few settings that affect behavior.

  16. Hi Everyone

I have recently purchased the F88DAB and installed into my Alfa 159 sportwaggon. This is a great unit. I decided to purchase an aftermarket reverse camera which I then installed into the car.

Having tested the camera using a 12v battery and an AV monitor I knew it worked before installing and therefore expected it to just plug and play when installing it into the HU reverse camera Connector. However this is not the case. I put the car into reverse and the HU changes to the reverse screen but just stays black and no image appears. I have tested this with the HU out and the cable running into the AV monitor and get a picture straight away.

The camera definatly works with the head unit because when I go to source AV and set it to camera the reverse camera image appears. The camera is powered the entire time as the power feed is coming from a constant source. I have tried a number of different settings including setting the second camera input as the reverse camera and that still doesn't appear.

I just can't figure out why I can see the image in one option but does not appear when the car is put into reverse especially when the camera is plugged into the reverse camera input. Any help will be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    D

Sounds like you are using the wrong video input connection for the backup camera. There are two video inputs. You should plug your camera's RCA into the brown input on the back of the unit (labeled BC In), not the yellow connector in the harness.

  17. I want to read the sd card in my computer, it's not visible due to the format of the sd card. i want to find out wich program i need to see the content on the sd card! Today i installed it on AVIC-F950BT and it works like a charm. Hope that someone will find out what to do or give me a tip

As I said above, those z150/US-Can  guys were using USB. Maybe they were using the headunit (in testmode) to copy all the files from the SD to a FAT32 USB device? Then they could copy/archive the files at will.
