  1. It's been a few years since I've been here - and am still enjoying voice recognition and video playback from my iPod Classic and Pioneer x920 combo with the original maps, as the update would have killed voice recognition (????)

So, if one were to purchase a NEW iPod (or iPhone) at least 6th gen running iOS 10xxx, is there a Pioneer or Kenwood unit which will allow all the things I enjoy now with my seven-year-old combo?

Parking brake video?  Voice selection of songs / artists / albums?

Or did all of this disappear with the Lightning cable, never to return again....

It seems the NEX series is the current, but it's hard to tell just what it does and doesn't.

Thanks - glad this place is still here :)

  2. Hi all! My problem is in the title, and I'm hoping someone can help. I've been searching on this forum for the past couple of months but have yet to come up with anything, so now I'm asking for help.

The unit came with a vehicle I purchased, and from what I can tell has been updated to the 2013 maps pack. I guess there's a 2015 one too?

Anyway, my phone will connect and show its playing on the screen but no audio comes out. Same with an iPod.

Also, the auxiliary doesn't play anything when connected.

Any help is appreciated because I'm sick of CD's taking up space in my glove compartment.

Which phone are you using, and which iPod?

  3. Ok witnessed another problem after this above method which helped me.

It seems that everytime I turn the bluetooth off, the bluetooth software gets screwed up. When turning bluetooth off the the bluetooth settings menu on the unit, the bluetooth turns off but cannot be turned on again. When you try it just kind of keeps loading then sometimes I end up in the same state I was with the previous issue where things are blanked out.

Fortunately, the software/firmware update still works after. This software is very ropey, so a heads up for anyone else with same problem.

The fix, loading 10.2 and 11.0, also worked for me. And yes, turning OFF Bluetooth caused the meltdown. Extremely crap software from Pioneer, especially when their solution is to milk customers for $230, when they likely know this fix will work. Last Pioneer auto product I'll likely purchase

  4. Thank you Sir.

This worked for me. This morning my Bluetooth, while I was streaming music, randomly just stopped, and then the Bluetooth was literally inoperable. Have been using the system for about 2 years with no problems and randomly the Bluetooth part of it just stopped working. Same symptoms as others, options greyed out, firmware showing '------', etc.

I have already done the application update manually before, so didn't bother with that but the Bluetooth firmware files you posted were perfect. I did the first update initially, and the Bluetooth actually started working at this point already for me, but I did the second one anyway. Both updates took about 5 minutes.

    :-D

regarding time - did each update take 5 minutes, or did each update take 2 1/2 minutes? Thanks

  5. You followed the instructions of a 5 yr old post and loaded BT v3.11? What headunit do you have? Z110, Z120, Z130, Z140? What app/map version are you running? I believe the current BT is v3.32. It comes with the 2015 map upgrade.

Where can you find this combo 2015 map / Bluetooth upgrade?  And do you know if it kills the voice recognition features of the x920bt headunit?  I seem to remember reading that a certain upgrade killed the VR system, which I use frequently, but have finally been hit by the dreaded "greyed out Bluetooth menus" problem.  The unit has been bypassed, so sending into Pioneer would be useless and expensive

  6. I still haven't updated the software on my Pioneer 920, mainly because I didn't want to lose Voice Recognition, VR operation.

I think I read somewhere that Pioneer removed it because the software tech got sold to another company...whatever.

Question: are there any, current, high-end Pioneer or Kenwood units that have implemented native VR, as opposed to implementing a link to Siri on your iPhone (don't have one) of Google Voice options on Android (don't use it).

Or, any other brands?  I still think it's great to be able to hit just ONE, physical button and have the unit respond to my voice commands

  7. ok, you said "streaming".  I assume you mean from Netflix via your iPhone 5 mobile connection.

What if you had videos "stored" on the iPhones drive....can you watch those as well?  is there any HDCP Copyright protection stuff over the HDMI that prevents that - whether you rip your own videos or are trying to play videos downloaded from iTunes, for example?

  8. does anyone know if an iPod Touch 4th Generation, running the latest iOS 6.1.6, will work with an x920BT?

I lost my iPod Classic 6th Generation and am looking at used replacements, hence, I can't return them if they don't work.

The 920 manual says iPod Classic Ver 2.0.2, and iPod Touch 2nd Generation running 3.1.1

However, the manual was printed in 2009 likely, and there are no updates on the website.

So....anyone running an iPod Touch 4th gen with no troubles - audio - videos - etc?

  9. sorry - confused about something...so if you had, for examples movies, music videos, tv shows on the iPhone 5, then you can watch those on the Pioneer screen via the Apple AV/HDMI connection?

  10. currently using a 920 unit with an iPod Classic for video out, which up until I lost the Classic on an airplane, worked fine.

Question:  before buying another, older iPod with the 30-pin connector, has Pioneer released a newer unit that allows video playback with the newer, 5th generation iPod's?

I've perused the posts now going back a couple of years, and it seems like a real rats-nest to get video out of a 5th gen ANYTHING, at least to a 900 series unit.

So, is anyone currently using a current Pioneer Nav product which DOES allow video playback from an Apple 5th gen device, and does so with ONE cable between the units, as opposed to a plethora of 30 pin to 8 pin to HDMI to VGA etc...

oh, and do the newer units still have voice recognition?  I haven't updated my 920 since I actually use that feature.

    thanks

  11. LOL! My apologies then for my initial post. I was sensing a pattern with respect to line voltage irregularities with the various model Avic,s from the posts that I have read. Members will often report an issues with their units and then go silent without leaving any follow-up. It;s like a Cold Case File...I like mysteries, so I'm always looking for a resolution. Perhaps the Ipods Capacitance Controller is showing it's age?

it's been a faithful old dog or over six years, but yes, age is a concern, and the alternator troubles may have made it a little 'older'. Maybe a factory reset is in order

  12. in the past few months, my x920bt has Been changing sources when I restart the car. For example, I'm listening to a podcast on my iPod Classic. I turn the car off, come back, start the car, and the unit decides to play the first song by the first alphabetical ('A') artist on said iPod.

    It's random.

The iPod classic is 6 1/2 years old.

My car's alternator died last month and was replaced. During that time, the 920 was acting up more than usual (restarting, blank screens, not starting, changing sources), so I thought all would be fixed with the alternator swap.

Is it most likely the iPod is acting up (hard drive, wire problem), or have any of you x920 owners had this random source-changing happen as well?

  13. There are a couple of posts on here I made and one that is a "sticky" that all show screen snapshots of the Handbrake settings to use. The ones I found for X940 are slightly different than for a X950 model. I made note of the settings and saved a profile with the name of the unit as the profile name. I found the X940 was not as critical to screen size as my newer X950 model.

Try one movie at a time to see what works and then do others if it plays. Saves a lot of time so you do not have to do a lot of reprocessing.

I keep trying to save the width/height settings in a Handbrake profile, but the resolution won't save (everything else does...audio rate, codec, etc.)

I see that other profiles have resolutions that are set to begin...what's the secret, any idea?

  14. create using which app, codec etc?

I tried using Handbrake's default settings for ipod, iphone and ipad, all h.264 .mpv presets, and nothing would work.

    any suggestions?

the only thing that works is the MPEG4 codec in Handbrake - is that what you used?

  15. whew...I thought my insanity was solitary. Kenwood has it much closer....two big rows of letters show up (26 for the alphabet), pick one...go to that letter, and keep drilling down.

scrolling is great for the living room sofa, or for a passenger, but not a driver. at least offer two GUI's to choose between: groovy, or smart

  16. OK, this app that you posted the link for worked fine, as far as sorting the order alphabetically.  I assume it also took into account the numbers first, as my files all started with 01, 02, 03 etc.

    http://www.anerty.net/software/file/DriveSort.php

I first put them on disc with number 06 first, sorted with the app, saved (don't forget to do that, or nothing will change) and voila - number 01 moved to the top of the list.

    Thanks for the suggestions

  17. This was an issue I had with just mp3 files on an x930. The first link above from smkmn13 says it all... the system reads back the files in the order they were copied onto the card. So I often ran into this after copying new files over.

For mp3s I ended up dumping all files to a computer, sorting, then copying back again to the card (and eventually ditched the sd card for an ipod...).

do the numbers 001, 002, 003 etc count as 'alphabetical' ordering, in so much that 001 comes before the letter 'A'?
