  1. With my X950BH, the directories are in alphabetical order and the unit goes through them in the same order. Inside the directories however, the files are played in "date - time stamp" order with newest first. There was a post about this here somewhere so I had to go through my videos again and for a multi part concert I would do a pass through Handbrake of the last to first in that order. That cured 95% of the issues although some still play not in any order even though random is not selected? Note that just a copy or rename which might change the date - time did not fix this, not sure why?

how bizarre - that's what I was thinking it could be, even though I encoded them in Handbrake using the queue method, so the first video would be finished first.  How typically Pioneer to come up with some weird-ass method that isn't mentioned, doesn't make any sense, and has no real way to rectify.  I'll let you know if I can find any solutions, although since no one here seems to have mentioned anything else, I assume it's something no one either knows or cares about...lol

  2. Hey there.  I'm converting some music videos, etc for playback on a 920 from the SD card.  On said card, I have created named folders (movies - videos - TV etc.).

As a test, I numbered six videos in a specific folder from 01 to 06.

Problem: the sort order seems random.  Item 03 is listed first, 04 second, and 01 thru 06 are listed third through sixth.

What am I missing?  I thought that by numerically listing the videos, it would be a done deal.

  3. Has Pioneer, or anyone else, created and released an ALTERNATIVE GUI for the Pioneer X920 series headunit?

I nearly crashed the other day fumbling for the MICROSCOPIC "answer phone" icon that appears on-screen when the phone rings.

The whole point of hands-free concept is safety, yes?  So why did Pioneer think it was groovy to make a GUI interface that better resembled an iPhone.  Sure, if I was standing on a street corner, it would be great to fling the screens with my thumb and watch as my screen mimics a slot-machine interface.

BUT IT'S COMPLETELY USELESS AT 70MPH! (or many more kmh)

Anyone?  Am I completely alone in this thinking?

At the very least, the phone icon that appears on screen to either answer or hang-up should be at least 1 1/2 inches in screen size, so we don't crash the freakin' car trying to find it.

I would pay for an alternative set of screens, especially the totally stupid artist/album selection.  Stationary, BIG characters - not some rolling nonsense that is better suited for an iPod.

    rant out.

  4. sorry...have to vent about this...

am I the only one who finds the way Pioneer implemented searching for artists/albums on this unit groovy if you we're standing still with an iPod in your hand, but COMPLETELY F$&@ING USELESS while driving at ANY speed?

trying to place your finger at just the right place on the screen, then swishing up or down through tiny, scrolling letters like watching a slot machine roll to a stop is, and has been, the most unsafe way to operate a car audio product I've ever encountered.

Kenwood got it right: bring up a stationary page of large letters, hit the one you want, and keep your eyes on the road. Why Pioneer never updated this is a crime, not to mention a road hazard.

The reason I mention this now is that it's CES time, and Pioneer engineers (?)/ sales reps may actually be looking here at the moment for user interest on their new products, and stumble on my rant. God knows phoning the Pioneer offices and expressing my concerns for safety fell on ignoring ears.

have all Pioneer attempts at a safe and functional user-interface been continually as bad as the X920bt, or have they made some progress on units released after this one (local shops carrying Pioneer demo units near me have all but evaporated, so I have no idea if they actually redesigned this mess)

In closing....Pioneer, you really should redesign and update the software on some of your units before we die in flaming collisions because of your idiot screen-functionality.

    Thanks....rant over :)

  5. as with every bootleg thing shipped from china, I'm sure there are a couple that will work, but most will be broke before it ships (or shortly after being put in)

I'd love to bag a new iTouch for the x920, but losing video-out is out of the question...I wish they'd just get this corrected.... lol

  6. Well VGA is an analog video signal, not digital, so while this is not the right signal that we need, it is at least a good sign that video being outputted from the unit is not dead. if the units are outputting VGA, then composite video output is not that far off, its probably now just a waiting game until the correct adapter comes out, because VGA can be converted to component, and component is just a more broken down version of composite. there is still hope!

however it is also likely that we will see newer systems that work with the newer hardware before we see the right adapters.

Are they outputting analog video, or converting down to analog do you think? also, wouldn't it be more likely there was an HDMI to 30 pin that was made aftermarket, or does HDMI need a power source

  7. I dont think so. Iphone 4 upgraded to ios 6, and advanced appmode still worked on x930 - I believe the advanced appmode requires video out inorder to function (display on the screen).

thanks - ihave since found out that certain apps have had their video out disabled, but it's on an app-to-app basis

  8. ok, so if this is the best that Apple is coming up with, I guess that analog video is dead forever in their eyes?

    http://store.apple.c...dapter?fnode=3a

any idea on if anyone has made either of these somehow adapt to be used with the X920 - 930 series for analog video?

looks like far too many cables and connectors are going to be needed.....

also...apparently...any i-devices with the 30-pin connector that have been updated to iOS6, analog video out has been disabled. Anyone have that problem?

  9. just got back from the Apple store - it was the first time they had the complete (I think it was complete) selection of Apple brand adapters and converters to go between 30 pin and eight pin.

That being said, has anyone actually bought the Apple $29.99 converter with the included D/A circuitry and tested it with the Avic systems?

I'd love to get a new iPod Touch for the car, but losing video out would be the deal breaker.

Everything I've read here seems to be about third party adapters

  10. No, that was a typo.. I upgraded to the nav940 firmware. And no, I still have voice response for playing music.. But again I never use it because the voice response never works more than 10% of the time.. It's a gimmick to me.. I can't rely on it so I don't use it.. it's more frustrating than anything.

sigh...why am I not surprised that Pioneer gives you a different answer with every phone call....is it possible you have SOME form of VR due to the source of your installation software?

  11. I'm pretty sure they stopped supporting VR with Nav on the stock x930bt, however I retained my VR with Nav when I performed my upgrade to the 930 firmware. This time I didn't retain it, however my upgrade method wasn't exactly conventional.

ah, so you only updated as far as a 930? The Pioneer guy also told me that if I updated to the 940 software, I would lose voice recognition for EVERYTHING, not just NAV.

  12. ok, the Pioneer phone guy claims my 920 will be upgraded to firmware 4.0, I will lose VR with nav, and that Bluetooth with Android will NOT give me Pandora screens on the Pioneer's screen when updating with this software:

    http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/Accessories/Map-Upgrades/NAVTEQ+2012+Map+Upgrade+for+AVIC-Z110BT,+AVIC-Z120BT,+and+AVIC-X920BT

he also claimed that my 920 would essentially be a 940.

I guess the real question is...how much better is it to have Navtek maps, and real-time traffic updates (after adding the antenna)?

  13. Interesting about the VR. I'm actually trying to un-cripple VR on x930bt and similar. I think it can be done because there are several places in the code where they are checking certain device types and not initializing voice functions. I was able to get it partially working - the only problem I'm having is that the VR menu and prompt works - it just doesnt recognize anything that I say.

Also, looking at some older CNSD-210FM vs CNSD-310FM updates, I see some extra voice files that are missing in the new update from NDATA/VBT like POILIST0.DB (for poi vr?) and AEGrammars.vba ?

I copied in some from CNSD-210FM, but didnt seem to help.

I see that there may be two slightly different versions of this upgrade, one for z130/x930 -> 40, and another one for previous versions (z110,z120, x920). I wonder if these differences have to do with VR functionality.

that would be good to know, as I quite like the option of VR with NAV on my 920. Having the proper upgrade package would be good. Which one is for the x920?

  14. Yep! You have to manually update the BT by going to the BT settings screen.

do you know which is the correct package to purchase, aka is it an update on the x930 site, or the x940 site (there isn't anything but an old firmware update on the x920 page). When you say "manually", would the instructions be outlined by Pioneer, or is this the place to come for successful instruction?

  15. I had to check since I didn't before but it winds up that I can no longer use voice control for navigation, it only accepts commands for making calls and music. Normally I'd be upset but since voice response never could understand anything I said I gave up on it and never used it anyway.

interesting...odd that just one aspect would be effected. I wonder if a stock x940 can perform VR with nav?

  16. I can confirm this.. I just upgraded my X920BT to the X940BT firmware and already I can see it was worth it.. FINALLY I can see the cities of all the returned results when looking up POIs.. WHY did it take this long for them to do that?? Ugh..

time and energy being more important than money to me at the moment (lol), can I just buy the update from Pioneer to turn my x920 into an x940, and would that include the maps, bluetooth updates, etc?

  17. Hi!

I updated the maps today in our x9310bt. The process wasn't near as bad as was described in the instruction guide. Nor did it take as long.

The instruction guide described how it would take 3 hours to do the install & update.

    Nonsense!

From start to finish, maybe it was 25 minutes. After the updates the Version number changed from 3.00 to 4.00 . Haven't noticed anything else yet. (its only been an hour.)

Also, when you get the password, Pioneer states how getting the password you can only do once, and that the nav nunit and the media are linked together. So copying .... don't think that will work.

Looking forward to see what the update has brought forth.

    Thanks

so you took a 910 all the way to a 940? did you lose anything?
