  1. I got a z110bt used for a pretty good deal and then upgraded it app version 3.000 :)

I was wondering if anyone knows or has attempted to replace the screen? My unit seems pretty old and the blacks on the screen arn't as good as I wanted it to. it seems like the LCD is "fading" or losing its life.. or is my expectation too high? (Im a screen junkie, ie. IPS monitors). I tried ebaying "z130bt or z110bt screen" but no results.. im guessing the screen part would be too expensive too huh..

anyone know from first hand experience if the z130bt screen is better than the z110 screen?

I have a Z110, and it has the same image as it did when I bought it 2+ years, and 80,000 miles ago. Is the screen scratched or worn?

Have you tried adjusting the contrast/brightness/color/dimming for the screen?

If not, you can make custom adjustments to each source. Even the daytime/night-time settings for the navigation screen can be adjusted. I dont remember which button you hold down to bring up the menu, but hold down either the "HOME" or "MODE" button.

    I hope this helps.

  2. Thanks RonS,

Forgive me for my ignorance. This is the first real unit I’ve owned that had anything more than tuner and cd.

    I think I’m getting what your saying…

Create folders that have letter ranges (a-e / f-j / k-o etc) so that I divide the alpha into an equal number of segments. Same # as the unit will allow folders to appear simultaneously on screen. This eliminates 45 artist folders for example. Then if I select a letter range I will get a display of the artist just in that range (again trying to limit that to the number of folders ….). Then when I select the artist I get all songs by that artist in whatever order I choose to save them. This is similar to the drill down for multiple numbers on a contact in your phone correct. Letter Range, Contact, Numbers for that contact….Alphabetically makes sense to me because I am more familiar with what song I want than what album it is on for instance or track number for that matter. I think what I really need to do is roll up the sleeves and try some different things with the card.

I agree that what you’re saying about the size of the card makes sense. I have about 12-13 GB of music. Just over 2000 songs. I may add more as time goes but at a very slow clip. Also I have heard that the unit limits folder and file #’s (300/2500 I believe).

Just installed last eve so I’ve enjoyed the unit for all of 45 minutes on the way to the office this morning. Except for a couple small glitches in the Nav I am really excited. I am disturbed that Pioneer’s website advertises Text to Speech in the Nav which it clearly doesn’t have. Far more to be happy about than upset though.

I'm not sure if you noticed this particular glitch with the sorting of the files within a folder:

The folders will follow the alphabetic ordering as expected, but the files within a folder are sorted according to the "Date Added". This means if you copy over an entire folder, the order will follow the listing structure it has on the PC (which is typically alphabetical). And when you add more files at a later date, they will be added to the END of the file list on the headunit. In order to re-structure the folder, you have to move the files out of the folder, sort them as you wish, "SELECT ALL" , and then copy them back into the original folder. This may not happen with MP3s , but with MP4 videos, the glitch exists.

In all honesty, the SD slot is not an ideal method to maintain sort music files. Which is why I only use it for movies and YouTube music videos (sorted according to genre). I have a 16 GB stick and it can hold hundreds of videos. Occasionally I copy over a few albums but thats because I didnt feel like hooking up my iPhone at the moment.

    I hope this makes sense.

  3. Does the Netflix App support TV-OUT mode?

I would really be surprised if it did. JailBroken devices can have TV-OUT loaded via Cydia.. This will 'mirror' your device's screen on your z110/120/130.

Of course no jailbreak yet for the 4S, so hang tight.

Yes, Netflix supports TV-Out, and works pretty well with my Verizon iPhone 4S. Unfortunately, the iPhone screen stays lit with the Netflix logo & controls on the screen. Maybe this is something I can tweak in the phone's settings but I havent got around to messing with it.

There are times when the iPhone screen goes black and its unresponsive. Simply disconnecting, and re-connecting the interface cable will rectify the problem.

  4. Here's an idea . . . . .

I recently custom-fitted an over-the-air DTV converter box along with an amplified antenna. Its all STEALTH too, meaning you wont know its in there until I pull out the remote and start changing channels like I'm on the couch.

DTV is great, but it doesnt work when the car is in motion (US technology limitation). The picture is crystal clear when stationary. I now have a PERFECT excuse to wait in the car when the misses drags me along to go shopping.

I'm putting together some photos/videos of my install to post on this forum.

  5. i have no idea what that means either haha.. i was wondering the same thing... if anyone knows i would like to know too.

Well, after playing with the settings of my head unit, I decided to reset to factory defaults. Sure enough, the "-----" went away, and I now have the same characters as ghost911. I had to re-configure my settings, but I at least solved this mystery.

    Am I satisfied? Not fully.

I'm now worried about the format of the CAN version number; what the heck does it mean? It looks like some type of hex code.

  6. That's not the point - the point is - instead of just disabling the MSN, they've disabled the whole radio after install... So if you do the upgrade, you've gotta pull your radio out of the car, remove the MSN hardware, then re-install....

    It's an undocumented stupid hassle....

I have a Z110 -->Z120-->Z130 (hacked versions), and when I check the system info for the headunit, there are dashes where the "CAN Version" should be. When I installed the latest Z130 firmware upgrade, I did have the MSN tuner installed.

Are you telling me I have to re-install my Z130 firmware to get rid of the "-----" in the "CAN Version" entry? If so, how do I go about doing that? What are the steps in re-installing the Z130 firmware upgrade?

    Update 12/28/2011

Nevermind, I did a factory reset on the HU, and the dashes went away.

  7. Z120 updated perfectly. From password/hack update, all the way through...

Should have pulled the MSDN Nav unit though - throwing tuner errors - annoying, but not tragic...

New Nav/Traffic tuner coming in Friday - I'm only pulling this puppy out ONCE...

Thanks to all who contributed and shared their experiences with this update...

    Rick

I have a Z110 updated to Z130 but I had my MSN tuner at the time of upgrading to the Z130 (hacked version). Since I installed the TMC tuner my "CAN Version" has dashes. My radio reception is now crap, but this happened BEFORE I did the Z130 upgrade.

When you replace your Traffic Tuner, please tell us what "CAN Version" is listed in your information status screen. Mine is showing up as "-----"

  8. well i was shocked when i seen the updates went all the way to 3.00 to 3.0001 as wel.. freakin awsome thank you all...

I noticed that your "CAN Version" has characters listed in your status screen. For some reason, my "CAN Version" has "-----"

I have a Z110 that was upgraded to a Z120, and now to a Z130. I'm not sure what this means but if you have any idea, please let me know.

  9. Hi guys! I'm new with AVIC-Z110BT. What is the best and reliable media format for playing video on Z110BT? Divx? Something else? I tried to convert MP4 video clips to Divx - but it's taking so long for conversion (( Any ideas? My AVIC has been not updated yet for new firmware (2011), should I? Will it help to play regular MP4 videos? Thanks in advance!

Putting DIVX, or AVI files on DVD is more ideal. It is definitely the easiest method to run video. You just have to sacrifice a DVD. MP4 files don't work all that well with this method.

Running videos from the SD card is a little more difficult; some AVI files will work, but this method is more ideal for MP4s. I run a lot of music videos using the steps I provided in another thread (do a search on my username).

Using an iPod to run video is okay but the audio will take a slight hit in the quality department (assuming your videos are from YouTube).

  10. Hi.

I have a Z120BT with an iPod Classic 160GB setup. My ipod is maybe only 30% full with music and videos. My Pioneer Z120BT is showing a pop-up message every time I start my car "Warning - logging content is 90% full" (wording may not be exact). Does anyone else have this problem? This warning message didn't show for maybe the first couple of weeks I connected my iPod to my pioneer deck. What is wrong with my setup?

This is your driving log warning. Either dump the files to your PC For driving analysis, or turn off driving log in the settings.

  11. Wow thx for the upgrade. Everything went perfect......i'm just hoping the bluetooth update fixes the background noise issue that the other caller experiences.

Some great seeders out there too! Took all of 15 min to download! Will seed for a few months. Cheers.

I'm no longer convinced the BT noise over phone calls can be fixed thru a software update. I have a BB Tour for ages, so I haven't tried any other phone to test other options. I'm hoping the iPhone 5 doesn't have this issue since it will be my next phone.

FYI, the noise over BT phone calls almost goes away when you hold the "HOME" button and turn the screen off. This tells me there is interference pickup from the head unit over BT.

FYI, the noise over BT phone calls disappears when you mute the phone call from the phone itself (NOT THE HEADUNIT).

  12. Update. Got it updated to 3.001 the long way lol. So far only updated bluetooth with the sd2 pack in the 2.003 update i torrented. Only thing is I lost voice control. When i hold it down on the headunit or the button on my steering wheel i assigned it to it just mutes instead.

    Thanks

I thought if you hold down the "voice" button, the radio is SUPPOSED to mute? I suggest you TAP the "voice" button, and see what happens.

  13. I successfull installed "SD1" but I'm having trouble installing "SD2". Its not recognized by my system. I tried two different SD cards (even re-using the first SD1 card).

Does anyone know what could be going on?

    EDIT:

Nevermind, I found my answer. The "SD2" card has the Bluetooth update and needs to be done thru the Bluetooth settings. (DUH!!!)

  14. "I also miss being able to adjust the brightness of my screen whether the lights are on or not. My old 700 would let me adjust the brightness for night and day."

With the headlights on, my NAV is in DAY mode; the map sky is light blue with clouds, and the map has all bright colors. With the headlights off, my NAV is in NIGHT mode; the map sky is dark blue with stars, and the map has all dark colors. This helps with the screen not being too dark during the day, and not bright at night.

You can aslo adjust the brightness/contrast/color for each mode by holding MODE key and adjusting the sliders.

Is this what you were speaking of? If it is, then you may have mis-wired your system; my AVIC-Z110BT (updated to a Z120) can do just this.

  15. ND-TMC10 is the new traffic tuner.

I searched around an noticed the ND-TMC10 prices have gone up since June. Other than what Ebay has, the cheapest I've seen is HERE for $82.99 and free shipping. I dont trust Ebay that much, but SonicElectronix is pretty good.

I just ordered my ND-TMC10 device so I wont be doing the upgrade until I receive it. I dont want to lose my live traffic.
