Update: I've verified it was definately the drive. I wiped my stock drive and loaded it with the latest update... everything works flawlessly. D

FYI... just wanted to let everyone know that not all Toshiba 40GB drives will work for updating. I picked up a MK4018GAS and loaded it with the current files(Thanks Garrettoomy and all of the others that have contributed), but it reboots about every 5-10mins in my Z1. Drive appears to function normally in my laptop and doesn't have any bad sectors or errors. Seems to be worse when I've got a DVD going than any other source. Looks like I'll just be updating my factory drive since the Toshibas are so hard to get a hold of. D

Thanks for the reply Garrett... I figured this would be the case. I knew I wouldn't be able to control it from the AVIC, but I was kinda of hoping it would display the ipod screen even when I wasn't playing a video... oh well, at least it'll charge it. D

Just wondering if anyone has tried this Isimple IS76 audio-video/charging cable with a Z series HU?.. It has to be connected to a 12V power source in order to charge the 5V Ipod/Iphone version devices, but that should be simple enough. I'm going to try connecting it to the A/V Input RCA's in hopes of keeping the phone charged while getting audio and video from my Iphone4 to the head unit.
