  1. I have shared your frustration. The board's not as active as some others I frequent. At least you have more users of the 900 than the 500!.

The testmode I found works has files dated 6/30/10. they are on bootable (flash, in my case) media, in a zipped folder, along with zipped MITACAP folder, both in the root directory.

I did not lose, nor erase my maps.

My unit runs WinCE; they all do, but continue booting into the applications the factory supplied. Booting from the media, as above, stops the process at CE. I suggest that you learn early, to backup the unit to a minimum 2gB card or such. On the 500, all is accomplished with the software that is showing on the CE desktop, accessed with a stylus. I have used a plastic pen-end and a toothpick. I learned through playing, to calibrate the screen, move files and bring up the keyboard. It took time.

iGo is a factory application, that is the Nav software, if I am not mistaken. There may be new versions available and others will say which works with what version of CE, similarly as the hacks.

For the F500BT, I opted to get the $99 Pioneer update, to 2010 maps and new firmware (4.0). It shows WinCE 5.00 I believe the FW version are numbered differently between F models and possibly also for US versus Europe.

  2. I only found 3 posts, but figured out why the calibration is essential. My keyboard icon was not responding, even after many careful calibrations.... until just now.. I am not familiar with CE, nor have I found any guide, except for developers.

Thanks for the key to that aspect; now on to bigger and better...........at least as far as FW ver. 4 will cooperate.

  3. u HAVE to calibrate your touchscreen to be able to reach the keyboard. do a search for my username in the forum i just posted a response/howto a few weeks ago.

    thanks. I'll check.

I tried two keyboards thru the USB; neither worked, nor did a mouse.

I have calibrated the screen and found the keyboard icon, but cannot activate it.

  4. I got an unopened F500BT and just got the latest update from Pioneer for $99, marked down from $120. The update got here fast, but had no instructions, the website had only FAQs and 'Walkthru" for the F700 and both of the online pdf instruction manual files were corrupted. Nice work, Pioneer.

I took a chance and found, as a prev post said, the required device number was not listed in the service settings. It is now, after trying card A. It came up right after booting from the card, so i used my desktop to get the password and printed it. the install failed at about 6%, allowed the restart, then completed; took about 20 minutes, then asked if I wanted to keep the splash screen or choose another. I will try their 'new' Samantha which hopefully, won't suck like the last one. <not much change>

    Changes? APL 2.006 > 4.0001

    Data 1.0004 > 3.0000

    Map > 3.0000

    CE Img 6.0.5.0> 6.5.0.7

So CE was upgraded and new maps, plus the key sound changed slightly. I have little time with the unit, so cannot judge much else.

Card B would did not boot.

Testmode worked, finally and I copied the entire MyFlashDisk to an SD. I think that's what some asked for to decide if other could gain from the files for their systems.

  5. Is this still something I can get? I basically want to purchase an AVIC F500 and then upgrade

Yes, I know this thread is well aged.

  6. I for one, read of the wiki but did not know how to find it; not for lack of trying.

Spammers are all over this web and a problem, I know, but why would search engines be a problem? How else can one find forums such as these when starting out? Surely, the severely-limited search within these walls is not working for myself and some others hwo came for help....... and some veterans seem tired of helping with what apparently, is old hat to them. I'd like a resource here, and have sought it for a long time, but am finding little to none.

Sorry, but that's my experience; wish it were other and I looked forward to helping others as repayment.

Seems I am stuck using what the Pioneer gods choose to offer, versus what you guys enjoy.

Jason et.al. Thanks for your efforts and sorry for difficulties in trying to help the rest of us.

  7. I figured out how to do a B/U on the F500. With the update, testmode brought up the CE screen when I booted the F500. it would not boot before. I found that having a testmode subdirectory within a testmode directory does not work; not sure how that happened.

Having no keyboard, I found that the plastic end of a Cross pen works as a stylus to tap and drag, somewhat. Clearing out all but the

For a moment, I thought the unit was actually going to 'talk' to my desktop via a USB cable, and there are settings within CE that seem to offer that possibility, but it's not working for me yet. Sure wish I had a keyboard added to this stylus to work with.

Does anyone use a keyboard of some sort with the F500?

  8. how can I adjust the FADER on the F500BT? My front speakers or to soft while playing mp3/iphone.
New here myself, but I read yesterday that there is no Fader adjustment on the F500. Doesn't seem right with the unique 4-channel amplifier made just for it. I don't have the unit installed yet, but intend to use another, more powerful amplifier downstream of the Pio amp.
  9. Pioneer (USA) offers it online for $99 plus shipping ($189 from the parts people).

One tech rep claimed that Card A was an OS update to 3.0, with 2010 maps on B. Another (in a diff dept.) finally admitted she had no clue if the OS upgrade was included.

I ordered today and should know more in a week, if NE1 is interested. Cheers.

  10. New to this, and excited about the F500BT, but frustrated by not getting too far in hours and days of searching, w/o finding the backup procedures before I can start. I D/L EEgeek's program and was able to install a newer Samantha, after upgrading to FW 2.006000. (I love EE's soft OFF and the abailty to mod the 500 w/o using TESTMODE, as this unit will be hard wired into the car.) Hell, I have D/Led almost everything (including two TESTMODE versions) that work here, for the 500, but want a backup in case I BRICK it..

Like most of you, I want the latest OS, and functionality way better than Pio offers, plus the ability to easily enter CE.

Please. patience and a link to start. a full B/U. Thanks

We all take before we can give back.

  11. Solved my own problems before anyone could respond.

I had to go through just about every thread but I finally pieced together all the files needed to fix my HU. In the process I updated to the latest FW (was at 3.0) but had to redownload my 2010.6 maps and put those on.

Unit is working, hopefully stays that way. If not, Im going to keep my SD card in the car just in case.

Sure be nice of you to relate what you found for another member struggling to find similar. Agreed on the dead lines, albeit, well-aged. I know some guys who know this stuff like their own backyards got tired and impatient with us new guys, but I hate to see this forum go the way of Pioneer (lack of) support.

I've been searching for days for how to get my F500BT into testmode and where to find the newest version. So far.. NOTHING.

  12. I have to aggree with the op, US myself.
Also agree. I have looked time and again for info on the F500BT (US) and find little. Rolling eyes does nothing helpful; a non-post is more helpful, thanks.

I C Pioneer, in a link above, has an update for my unit which is different from the other 'F's; possibly answering one of my questions. The latest US update (250) is $99. I am guessing that the 'A' SD is an OS update; 'B' is new maps, like other versions.

I'd like to do some of the hacks, but find little or nothing on what is compatible. The FAQs are of no help.

Does anyone (helpful) know if the Version 3 is included in te aforementioned upgrade from Pio; or if other sources are compatible with the US F500BT?

    Thanks in advance.

We were all new once; I am a veteran in many other things, not this.

  13. F-series model:500bt

    Phone make/model: BB 8130

Ease of connection: First time when paired via phone; then automatic.

    Phone book transfer: Just fine

Sound quality: Limited testing. Not too loud w/ possible garbling.

Comments: Pleased that my phone linked and d/l my phone book w/o any issues. Unit has not yet been installed in the car, but is run with the external AC cnx.

  14. Just got this cool unit and did the official firmware BT updates from Pioneer. New w/ this unit but am thrilled that I got the testmode booted to a WinCE screen.

    1) will this unit allow keyboard or mouse control via the micro USB? just touch?

    2) do the 3.0 or 3.1 updates work on the 500 and offer, say the all-in-one mods posted here by one of you generous geniuses? most troublefree version and thread to effect it?

    3) map upgrades; any traps there for UC only?

Be kind. I have read a lot of posts and have trouble keeping it all straight when folks don't post any detail like which unit or firmware, etc. they run. thanks.
