  1. I have a question for anyone using an SSD. That is what I am using but when trying to do a song search, just using the 'fwd' button on the HU, it will not let you 'rev' to the previous song. Has anyone seen this and how, if so, did you correct that? Kinda sucks sometimes if you accidently hit the fwd button and want to back up to the previous song.

My smaller USB (64g) drive works fine searching forward and back. However the 1TB SSD USB drive takes forever searching backwards and a lot slower searching forward when compared to the smaller USB drives. I also notice music info is hit and miss on the 1TB drive. Sometimes it pops up at the end of a track, sometime nada. Large formatted USB drives are a pain in the rear. I wish more people that tried this were more up front with the problems with these large formatted SSD drives.

I haven't seen one post stating these issues, other than to say "yea, I did it and it works great". Ha, no throphies given from here, but it does help build my 'ignore' BS list.

OH I take that back, One guy stated after the fact of trying this "I should have said the first load could take up to 20 minutes or longer,". I still offer no help trophies here, how can you do that when someone leads you into land mines,, and probably laughing all the while. It doesn't matter going forward. I can't here that person any longer...

  2. I have a 128gb 6plus.....have about less than 3gb left

With T-Mobile spotify/pandora/apple music does not count against data plan.

In 2015 1,500 folder/15,000 media file limit is inexcusable

I agree with you and have a feeling it will be awhile before the car stereo manufactors build there car stereos for current technologies. But then again, probably their ploy to get us to update/replace our units every two years. As I count, that's about how often I do, and only for the newest gimmick they throw at us. Hell, if I had enough room in my dash, I'd throw in a nice home receiver and be done the life of my car. Home units are right on it, why can't the car manufactors to this......

  3. I should have said the first load could take up to 20 minutes or longer, depending on how many files you have. After that it usually takes up to 90 seconds each time you select that input.

I didn't load that many files on the 5 min mark. I didn't time the reload restarts but I'm pretty sure it was same 5 mins. In any case, the same files on a memory stick with almost instant load is a win for me. I think there is more issues to reading files on a large SSD drive than there is on a smaller memory stick. For me it's way to long to wait for music when you compare against a 64k mem stick.. IMHO, most people will be satisfied with the memory stick, I don't see any benefit with a large SSD other than saying you did it!! And to be honest, I'm a little embarrassed I tried it and posted as such. But I did hoping for a miracle, and I found none.. There is chance I did something wrong in formatting process but I followed the process as others posted and simply didn't see the same results. If I did this wrong, then I invite someone, or anyone, getting better results to tell us your trick. Thanks

  4. Finally had time try a Toshiba 1TB SSD drive with USB interface. I formatted the drive to FAT32 using Ridggecorp FAT32 tool. http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/. Format was seamless and quick. Loaded about half of my FLAC file, about 2,000, and tried on my NEX 8100. A few folks here said it took their player 3 mins to load, well I timed my setup and it took 5 mins 43 seconds. Once loaded, music played fine and switching between tracks using library was no problem. FLAC files sure do sound good on the 8100, I love it. Boot up time sucks, and each time I turned off and back on, you go through the same ritual. For me, this ain't gonna work unless I plan to be in the vehicle for a long time. I'll stick with the 64 GB sticks, they work well with FLAC and pretty fast. I like option to store music type by memory stic anyway. At least I ended up with a pretty decent 1TB backup drive that works well with USB3

  5. So if I use a 256 SSD (formatted to FAT32 using a 3rd party software) I can exceed Pioneers file count limitation?

I would say yes based on previous poster's comment that he was suscesfull using a SSD drive. I personally have not tried this but I have an SSD with a USB interface ordered from Amazon and plan to try. I will let you know my experience but it's going to be a few weeks. I would think several are doing this and invite their comments.

  6.

I currently have about 23,000 files hanging off of a 256GB SSD on my 8100NEX. It works. However, the queue up time when you switch to USB1 takes about 45-90 seconds before you can play music. the same thing goes for when you first turn it on. Luckily, that time barely even gets me off my street, so I've learned to deal with it. It's not a perfect solution, but it does work. I formatted to fat32 because my tests showed that it loaded a bit faster than NTFS. I also manually sorted the files using the fatsort linux utility (I think such utilities exist for Windows and others) so I can browse music alphabetically by folder.

an iPod is definitely a bit more of a seamless solution, but my issue was that a certain portion of my files (I believe due to something in the metadata that I hadn't been able to determine) would not play on the iPod. It's not an uncommon problem from what I've seen and I'd been trying to figure out for years how to reliably fix it.

    Reviewing the manual http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/NEX/AVIC-8100NEX

    Page 245

The max amount of files withing usb storage/sd memory card is 15,000........so your system works fine with 23,000 files :/

  7. I have the AVH-4100NEX and am looking for a hack to bypass the Warning! screen which comes on when you first power the unit.  (Please don't flame me if this has come up before in another thread.  I did my best to find an answer before posting.)

To be clear, this is NOT to watch video's while moving.  It is to bypass the Warning screen which says:  "Warning!  Read the product documentation and all applicable instructions and cautions..." in which you must select "OK" to operate the unit.

the only way i'm aware of is, don't power the unit.

  8. okay I feel like I'm doing something stupid here. I've got an iPod classic 160GB, full of songs and custom playlists. If I connect it, it shows up as iPod 2 (phone is iPod 1) and I can quickly and easily navigate anywhere on the iPod - except if I click any playlist, artist, or whatever - it just takes me down levels until I select a song, and then it just plays that song and that song alone on endless repeat.

How do I start a playlist off the iPod? I mean, it sees the playlists and even lets me select the song, but then it only plays that song and not the whole playlist. Help appreciated.

Try turning repeat off on your iPod. I believe is on iTunes

  9. Thanks captkirk[/size], that's good news, though a question still remains: does the 8100NEX have an integrated compass, GPS based or otherwise? That would help investigate the next step, whether to disconnect the OEM compass module and let the 8100NEX compass do its thing, or, if that's not an option, find out how to integrate the OEM compass with Meastro to make the compass show up on the dash display.

I haven't found one. You might try to see if you can run a compass app through car play.

  10. I recently replaced the aging RNS-510 in my 2013 VW Passat TDI with a 8100NEX and I'm very happy with this change. This OEM head unit had a compass output on the MFI (multi function instrument between speedo- and tachometer), which was independent from the navigation. This compass info wasn't vital but it was convenient. Someone mentioned that the original compass module sits somewhere in the trunk lid and should be disconnected once the RNS-510 is removed.

Does the 8100NEX provide a compass output that could be routed via the Maestro RR to the MFI? Or can the original compass be integrated into the Maestro RR module to continue working? Or do I now have to simply live without the compass display on the MFI?

I have a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with a separate compass function on display dash, along with a lot of other vehicle information. Maestro specific for my vehicle retained this info and also offered some other integration with my radio. I would check the options Maestro for vehicle to see what is retained.

  11. Think before you reply to someone. Do you appreciate people calling you names?  Neither do they. Cut it out.

Trust me,, I thought about it and decided to question one's ability to follow instruction, much less attack or blame a device not causing issue. In other words, no name calling, just questioning one's ability...

BTW. Stupidity is defined as behavior that shows a lack of good sense or judgment.

    You're in check......thanks

  12. My blackberry Q10 gave up the ghost so it was time to upgrade my device.  Due to my employers inability to adequately support anything but iPhones I went to the dark side and settled for an iPhone6.  At first I thought it might be cool to make use of the "integration" between my AVIC and iPhone rather than the limited Bluetooth streaming supported via my BB.  Well, here is how my first three attempts to use CarPlay went:

Attempt #1) I updated the AVIC firmware to 1.08 as required and plugged my iPhone into USB1 with the apple supplied lightning cable.  About 10 secs later the AVIC crashed and rebooted itself.  When it came back up it was as if it was being powered on for the first time.  I was forced to go through the entire setup sequence again.  ALL of my settings had been lost; navigation, sound, lighting preferences, everything - blown away.

Attempt #2) After going through all the setup I decided I would risk it another time and try to use CarPlay again.  This time it worked for about 10 minutes (that's an order of magnitude improvement!) before the screen went totally blank and a loud (and I mean ear piercing loud) high pitched sound was emitted from all channels.  The unit was totally unresponsive.  The only way I could get it to stop was to turn the car off.  The only consolation was that at least it didn't lose all my settings.

Attempt #3) same as attempt #2.

I also noticed that the Bluetooth (and CarPlay) integration with the iPhone is less functional than my BB Q10.  The Q10 enabled all of the play features on the AVIC interface you would expect; e.g. shuffle,  repeat, art work, etc. while control of the iPhone through the head unit is dumber than a door knob.  This is true when using either the device's built-in music app or the Neutron app (for both BB and iPhone).  All-in-all, the iPhone is a significant step down from my former Blackberry Q10.

I don't know who's fault it is but I like to think it's Apple since a. I hate them and b. everything worked fine between the NEX and BB (though that was only the Bluetooth interface).  One thing is for sure, this was pushed out the door way before it was ready.  Boy do I feel like a sucker.  I guess Sirius/XM can breath a sigh of relief - for now.  Apple CarPlay kind'a reminds me of the Apple Newton. :)

what is more to expect from an iPhone Hater.  Fact is,, your problem has nothing to do with iPhone but more so in user error upgrading firmware.   I would offer help but i don't want to get blamed for your stupidly.  good luck!

  13. i got tired of huge cell phone bills due to music streaming and went back to CD's.  I'm getting about 3-4 new CD's a month with money i save on streaming spending. Im burning my music in FLAC files and couldn't be happier. What a difference in sound quality.  Makes you appreciate your music in it't truest form. I'm done with Sirus and done with Streaming..  I spent a lot of money on my NEX Stereo system and now i'm getting every inch and penny out of excellent quality music..    Try it,  you will love it!!
