  1. I work for multiple dealerships and they would rather have the stock system installed. That way they can offer an upsell to the new buyer and not have to deal with any repair issues on aftermarket equipment. They would never give you credit for what it is worth, they will just play a numbers game to let you think they are.

  2. Anyone know if there is a way to turn off PBAP? No issues with the HU, but my phone asks if I want to accept a PBAP request every time it connects. More annoying than anything else...

Do you have an LG phone ? This a a known issue with some LG phones and there is no way to turn it off. The problem is in the phone software and LG would have to issue an update with a fix for that, but they don't seem to care enough.

If you don't accept PBAP access right away then AVIC cannot read your contacts and voice recognition will fail.

Yes, I have the LG Venus. I can accept that there is no way to turn it off I guess. One thing that really bugs me is I need to reconnect the bluetooth every time I make a phone call. I'll call someone (or receive a call) and everything works as expected but the next phone call in or out gets sent through the phone's earpiece, not the car speakers even though the HU shows who is calling and lowers the music and everything! When I disconnect the bluetooth and reconnect, everything works again for one call. Then I need to do the disconnect/reconnect before the next call!

    Any ideas?

Are you acceping the request for PBAP as soon as it pops up on your phone ? If you do not do this immediately you get all kinds of problems with the connection. You might also check with Verizon to see if there is a firmware update for the phone, that may help.

  4. They should be called the idiot squad. I do those systems all the time and the door subs definitely work. All you need is is a Metra 70-5521 harness or equivalent (which includes a connector for the sub amps) and a double male to single female RCA Y connector. Put a 3k to 4k resistor ( i have experimented with many resistors and this range works best) in line on the blue white amp turn on wire to prevent turn on pop.

  5. Most Fords 2003 and up (the exceptions are e few THX systems that use a data signal to turn on the amp) need a resistor on the amp turn on line to eliminate sub pop. Some info on resister size is incorrect. It should be between 3.5k and 5k. I am a ford specialist and do this all the time it works 100% every time. The reason for the resistor is the factory amp uses a 5 to 7 volt turn on signal but the Aftermarket radio outputs a 12 volt turn on signal. The resistor drops the 12 volts down to a usable voltage that won't cause a pop.

  6.

I have my amp turn on wire hooked up to the ignition wire (red ) because the blue and white striped wire on the harness isnt working.

    pls help!

    thanks

Why isn't your blue/white wire working? I think you might have something hooked up wrong. If the blue white truly doesn't work properly than the unit or wiring is defective. Do you have access to a digital meter to test the voltage on the blue white wire? It should have at least 12 to 14.5 volts DC with the engine running. Try it without being connected to the amp first, then with connected to amp. Where is turn on connected at amp? It should be connected to remote or turn on terminal. DOUBLE CHECK THIS I HAVE SEEN AN OOPS WERE BATT AND REMOTE WERE ACCIDENTLY SWITCHED. What brand and model of amp and what size is power and ground wire and fuses for amp ( both fuse that is on amp at at or near battery. I have seen too small of wire or poor connections or even a bad fuse cause simular problems. Check the voltage at the amp power terminals while it is pulsing if voltage is not 12 volts or more than that is your problem.

  7. To answer your questions, Circuit City SHOULD ground the parking wire during the installation, but do not be too sure, as it is not neccesary and is taken only as a precaution against short-circuiting the radio. The f90bt and the f900bt both have similar boot times but the f90Bt is faster.

This is completely false the grounding of parking brake wire has nothing to do with short circuiting the radio.

If an install is done by the book than the parking brake wire would be connected to the wire from the parking brake that goes to ground when parking brake is on. I have encountered a few newer cars that require using a relay connected to the parking brake that switches a good ground. This is because on these vehicles the parking brake wires go through a module and does not have a strong enough ground. When the relay is used it requires very little juice to switch the relay on which in turn outputs a solid ground.

  8. I have installed a lot of these PAC steering wheel control interfaces and never had a problem. They work great every time. Anyone that is having a problem is not installing and or programming it properly. In the instructions it states that you can go on PAC's website and get specific instruction for your vehicle to make it easier.

As for sheer187 you wrote "which wire the pac connector connects to the headunit with"

The PAC connects to the headunit with a 3.5mm jack that says wired remote.

  9. I will not put one in my own vehicle in the current state, even after the update there are still isssues. The basic idea of the unit is great but it needs some improvements and more so than what Pioneer is willing to admit to at this time.

I am still installing these in customers vehicles and have not heard any complaints.

Personnally I have found something else I like better but would use the Pioneer if some major improvements were made. I don't see that happening until maybe the second generation model, I say that because of the attitude that I have gotten from Pioneer dealer tech support when I talk to them about issues and operational charecteristics.

  10. I have the JVC KW-NX7000 installed in my Excursion with the HD Radio, Bluetooth (supports stereo streaming audio, the pioneer doesn't) , Back up camera and bypassed (just ground brake wire). I had the AVIC-F900 at first but returned it due to the problems. Let me say that JVC blows away the Pioneer, although it cost about $200.00 more once you add the Bluetooth. Boot time is less than half of the pioneer. JVC runs on Windows Automotive not Windows CE like the Pioneer. The only drawbacks I have found are very minor. Phonebook is much better than the stupid people icons that Pioneer uses but there is no way to quickly jump through phonebook, you have to scroll through all entries to find one in the middle. No system built in voice recognition but you can use phones voice dial with two onscreen button presses. Functionality depends on phone. It wasn't a big deal not to have voice recognition because I couldn't get that to work on the Pioneer anyway, even after the update. Bluetooth sound quality is great. Back up camera has no option tu view while driving, only when in reverse. There is no RDS text for Radio as someone else posted. It uses RDS TMC for traffic, however if you use the HD radio it will give text info for all HD stations that are sending info. If you use HD Radio tuner you have to use an antenna y splitter to run the antenna to both HD tuner and radio. I found this out the hard way . At first it wouldn't get any traffic info because antenna wasn't connected to the radio, only to the HD Radio module. Graphics for all screens is much nicer than Pioneer. JVC utilizes much more area of the screen (which is larger) to display info. When listening to CD,USB,SD Text will scroll so you can see all of it. You can add Sirius or XM Radio (which very soon it won't matter which service because the merger was approved as of 7/25/08). Can do iPOD Video ( I cannot comment on iPOD controls since I don't do iPOD, I just use SD card and my Phone does MP3 player duty with streaming audio.) Mapping is great, you can do North or heading up in both 3D and 2D maps. Very easy to tell what zoom level you are set at, Pioneer is impossible to tell what zoom level is. When no route is set there are no blank boxes on the screen like Pioneer, just a nice view of the map.

Some minor issues when searching POI's. Sometimes some locations didn't show up when searching with categories like chain store, but it did show up when searching just for the name under all stores.

I have to go so that's all for now. Any specific questions that people want answered just post and I will reply when I can.

  11. I did a lot of experimenting with the size for F series splash screens and found that 1920 x 1150 is the perfect size. It is true that 800 x 600 works, but the system actually scales that to fit and some things seem stretched when scaled to fit. Some of the logos I had such as the one that looks like factory Ford nav logo worked better at 1400 x 1150 so it didn't look stretched from its original size.

Anyway here is what I have.

  12. Which one is better is really relevant to what are the most important features to you.

If you like burning standard cd's to the built in hard drive than Z3 is the best. Cannot burn music to F series.

If you use an iPOD and want video capabilities plus album art and voice activation of iPOD than F series is best.

The Z series does not do iPOD videos and its iPOD controls are not as nice as the F series but they do work.

The Z series boot time is much faster.

Z series has a much bigger screen 7 Inch versus F series 5.8

Z3 mapping is much better than F series. Z3 has smart route learning (see Pioneer website for description), F series does not.

F series has built in SD card slot and USB (if USB is not being used for iPOD), Z3 can use optional USB adapter.

F900BT has built in MSN Direct for Traffic, Weather, Gas Prices, Movie Times.

Z3 needs optional XM Navtraffic tuner for Traffic and or XM Radio only (no Movie times or gas prices or weather).

When using Ipod on an F series the AV1 input cannot be used for external source (such as Factory video system or external DVD player)

Z3 can do iPOD and still use AV1 input for whatever you want.

Z3 has true dual zone capability. F series cannot do dual zone. (dual zone can be used to listen to music off hard drive or Radio or satellite etc. from front speakers while playing DVD from unit onto rear monitors with sound going to wireless headphones.

F series has built in Bluetooth.

Z series Bluetooth adapter is optional and doesn't have as many features as F series but it does work well.

Z series has voice recognition for most all features including navigation and it has a an address book that you can manually add people and phone numbers to and you can edit that address book and call people from it by voice.

F series cannot edit contacts or manually add them and voice recognition capabilities are limited. No voice control for navigation.

Both series have some great points, only you can decide which is best for you.

  13. 1) When recieving a call system changes to map screen. Should stay on screen that was in use when call came in, or at least change back to that screen when call ends.

    2) Even with no route set, boxes for next turn ( street name at top of screen and direction of turn at top left ) are still there. Should be gone with no route set to get a cleaner view of map.

    3) Can't get voice recognition to work for calling a contact that was downloaded. Using LG VX8550.

    4) Cannot tell which number is going to be called when touching a contact. The large icons of a person are useless. Need icons that differentiate what number is stored when there are multiple entries for same contact. Such as a house for home #. Phone or cell phone, large Building for work etc. Or just ditch the icons and have words like cell, work, home. or even show the number instead of that useless icon of a person. More contacts could be shown per screen without that large icon of a person.

    5) On map screen, info bar for zoom level is useless. Suggest when zoom activated a popup comes up to clearly identify zoom level.

    6) Should be able to select either North or Heading up in 2D and 3D map modes.

    7) AVIC-F900BT has no way to verify that speed signal is being read properly. Does it even make a difference if speed is hooked up or not ?

  14. You are barking up the wrong tree if you think the crappy mic is the problem. The mic is exactly the same as the D3 (or any radio that used the CD-BTB200 Bluetooth module) and there were no bad sound quality problems with it. The problem with the F series is between the Bluetooth software and the Bluetooth chip. Mic placement does make some difference but that is not the problem here. I am a profesional Installer and always place the mic up at the headliner near the rear view mirror with excellent results (except with the F series). I normally place mic on side of an overhead console towards driver or clip to the headliner between console or mirror and sunvisor (make sure visor does not block mic when down).

  15. Even with illumination hooked up the screen will not dim at night or with headlights on. This is one of the issues Pioneer needs to fix when the firmware update is released.

I have the ACIC F-900 installed and confirmed illumination connection has no effect on brightness or button illumination or nightime map screen color. Spoke to Pioneer dealer tech support and they said working on fix. Nightime map color is not controled by illumination wire connection, it is based on time of day/night.

  16. In most GM vehicles these days it is best to use an interface to get what u need to install a NAV radio. Or any radio for that matter. You will need to know a few things to decide which interface to use. Does the vehicle have Onstar and do you want it to continue to work ? Does it have rear seat entertainment (factory DVD) ? Do you want warning chimes, such as key in ignition, lights left on, door ajar, low fuel level, etc. to continue to work. These chimes are generated in the factory radio and will not work when replacing radio unless you use the correct interface. Do you have Bose or premium digital amplified system ?

    There are interfaces by

    Metra

    Axxess by Metra

    PAC

    P.I.E.

    Peripheral

    Most interfaces will provide:

    Ground

    constant 12v

RAP (retained or delayed Accessory power)

    Brake

    Reverse

    VSS

    Illumination

speaker or RCA inputs depending on what type system you are replacing.

  17. I am a dealer expeditor that specializes in Ford. The PAC piece is definitely the easiest way to get Z2 installed. As far as using the harness referenced from crutchfield it is a METRA 70-5521. The radio shack regulator can be used, but there is a much easier way. Put between a 3.5k up to 5k resistor (I usually use a 3.9k or 4.7k from Radio Shack 1/4 or 1/2 watt doesn't matter either works fine) in line with the blue/white amp turn on wire. Meaning attach one end of the resistor to the wire coming from the radio harness and the other end to the adapter harness. This will eliminate the amp turn on pop. And for the RCA's you will only need the white one and the blue/white turn on wire that is in the same row. The red RCA drives the trunk subwoofers with the shaker 1000 system. I use an RCA-Y adapter with 1 female end and two male ends to connect the single white RCA to the radios dual subwoofer outputs.

For the speed signal it is dark blue with yellow at the PCM top connector pin 3. PCM is located under the hood passenger side front of engine compartment. I run the wire through the firewall grommet in passenger footwell area. Turn the wheels all the way to the right and you can pull the inner fender well plastic out easily enough to reach in and grab the wire put through the grommet. Then feed it under the battery tray to inside of engine compartment with a coat hanger or something simular. From there run it forward to the PCM, connect and cover with split loom.

The reverse wire is White with Yellow in harness under passengers side door sill plate coming from the fuse box (called the smart junction box).

Illumination is Black with Pink in the harness going through firewall in passenger footwell area. This wire powers front parking light.
