  1. DB, just a side note of your last post. I did the HD swap between the Z1 and Z2. I couldnt get the Z2 witht he Z1 HD in it to bypass. But I could get the Z1 with the Z2 HD to bypass. thats why i was thinking it was in the flash memory. but if someone has gotten the Z2 with a Z1 HD to bypass them im glad that someone has gotten more research done on this subject. Also, like i was saying in my other posts, i have a Z1 and a Z2 at my shop. If someone has a way to get into the flash memory i can look at all the different files on both the HD and flash memory on both units, and hopefully i can find
  2. DB, i looked through the file list that another member posted in a zip file. i have a list of files/folders that im going to try to look at on monday. I have a feeling also that the BT update CD like u said will update both the HD and the flash memory. Im still trying to figure out if there is a way to get into the files on the flash memory, ive heard somehow you can connect directly to the Z2 with USB. Anybody know how to do that?
  3. hey guys, go check out my posts on this topic http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 2025#42025 i think i might have a (somewhat) simple bypass in the works. i just need to pick some brains. the basic idea is to try to get the OS files copied off the Flash Memory Module. Then i can decompile the files, and start to mess with them. we already know the OS isnt on the HD. If there was a way to rework the software, and make our own ISO of an update cd that would update the OS files, we would be golden!!! DB if you have any .02 that you wanna throw in feel free. i have a Z1 and a Z2 at my
  4. nateair, if you had read back a few pages, you will see that i found that all the OS files, with all the input and output controls are on the FMM, not the hard drive. Im working on a way to get the files off the flash memory module. There are many other posts about unlocking the HDD. all that does it accesses some user files, backgrounds, boot logos, ect. You can take the HDD out and push down the sensor switch for it and the Z1 or Z2 will still boot up. And Flash Memory experts around here. If i got ahold of some of the OS files i can decompile them, i have done it many times before. I also h
  5. 8axle. thanks for the fast reply. Ive already torn down both the Z1 and Z2 to nothing. I own a car/home stereo shop in SoCal, and since we cant get the Z1's anymore, im pretty motivated to figure out this bypass. the pioneer reps that i have talked to have said that the bypass is 100% software. all the resistor stuff i dont think will work. there are a few other topics that guys are doing like im saying, moving files around from the Z1 to the Z2. The thing im not understanding is they are using the HDD, which is only NAV files, MP3's, and maybe a few large system files. I have a feeling, like
  6. hey edrock. i just wanted to let you know i have torn apart a Z1 and Z2 completely. The hard drive does not store the OS. there is a seperate flash memory module NEXT to the HDD. you can only get to it by removing the back heatsink, the top cover, and taking out the DVD drive assy. there are about 5 ribbon cables to unhook. I took a flash memory module (FMM) out of my Z1 and put it in a Z2 and the bypass worked. Im unsure about having to swap the HDD, but its probably a good idea since all the nav files are on it. The only problem then is the upgrades from the Z2 wont work. We need to figure a
  7. 8axle, I know the OS is a version of Windows Automotive. I can tear my Z2 open on monday when im back at my shop, its in my Yukon. Your right about the code line, I was just trying to give a basic example. It might even be some sort of registry key. On the flash memory module there are many MANY pins that are labeled, sort of like on the bottom of the unit. If there is some sort or ground-out bypass solution, I have a feeling that it will be on that board. The Gyro is mounted on the bottom board (i think) and the VSS decoder is build into the OS. I dont know what the system structure is as far
  8. well thats what im not sure about. i did a bench test for operations only. I dont know if the upgrades are on the HDD or the flash drive. hell, if pioneer didnt stop making the Z1 im sure we would still be selling them at our shop more so then the Z2. Our only option for some customers are the Z2's. If it means downgrading so they can watch a DVD and operate the nav, i have a feeling 90% of them wouldnt care. Better yet, like i said in my last post, im sure there is a line of code in the OS that says something like "if VSS or GPS is >10MPH then disable (dvd and nav) = 1. I have a feeling al
  9. Hey all. Im working on a Z2 bypass as well. I tore down a Z1 and a Z2 today. There are absolutely NO differences in hardware. There is a mainboard NEXT to the HDD that is the flash memory module. It even has a Microsoft sticker that says dont tamper, blah blah with our software. I thought I might be able to pull the OS off the flash drive, but im a senior installer, not an electronics engineer. I did switch the flash module from the Z1 to the Z2, and the old Z1 bypass worked on the Z2, and in the Z1 with the Z2 brain, it didnt work. I also have an inside rep at Pioneer that confirmed that the
