  1. I have mine mounted in the 9 o'clock position on my steering wheel and it works fairly well. It tends to work better during the day and when I'm wearing a light-colored shirt (the signal bounces off my shirt to the D3).

FYI, the infrared port is located on the bottom of the SR-11 remote, not the top. Holding it directly to the D3 won't be effective if the top part of the remote is facing the D3.

Oh, and another thing: the SR-11 wasn't made for the D3 so it's not going to work perfectly. As far as I know there isn't a steering wheel remote made to work directly with the D3 thusfar.

  2. I've had my D3 and my Pioneer GEXP920XM unit for about a month now. I feed the XM unit with a separate power cable connected directly to the battery. That power cable has a 25amp in-line fuse. The XM unit also came with a 2amp in-line fuse.

All was working good for a month and then all of a sudden my XM stopped working. I found out that my 25amp fuse was blown. The little 2 amp fuse was fine. I replaced the 25amp fuse and that blew within minutes. I then replaced that with a 30amp fuse and that blew as well. The 2 amp fuse remains fully intact.

What the hell is causing this? And why would the 25/30 amp fuses blow before the 2 amp fuse?

  3. Does anyone select the options in the "Staging" section of the sound menu (like music studio/dynamic theater/actor's stage/living room)? I have gotten the levels the way I want them in the EQ, but I have a friend who insists that the speakers sound way better with the staging off, and I say it sounds better usually with the "Dynamic Theater" setting. I know that sound is subjective, and I have my theories about why I like this better, but I'd like to get your input and find out whether or not I'm just crazy.

p.s. the speakers in my car are component infinity's in the front, coaxial infinity's in the back and one infinity 10" reference sub, in a VW GTI.

    Any thoughts?

Who cares what your friend says potentially sounds good or not? Sound is subjective. It's your car. They're your ears. Set it up the way you want. Don't be your friend's little bitch.

  4. If you plug in the red/white/yellow cables from the PS2 into the AV2 audio/video inputs and then plug the PS2 into an inverter it will work. The difficulty depends on how "clean" you want the install to look afterwords.

  5. But FYI..I've been in two tunnels (Monitor-Merrimac near Hampton, VA) without my VSS connected..and with only 50% learning in place..and the D3 tracked the car, speed, location, arrow..everything..without a hiccup.

It's still using the data it picked up with the internal gyros thusfar. Even at 50% learning and without the VSS the unit is still accurate. The VSS just adds to the potential accuracy of the system. Now if you used the same sentence above but used 0% instead of 50% I would be impressed.

  6. ^^No, that's just GM "quality". Dodge and Ford aren't much better either. I work at an install bay and damn are all of the american cars burtal for interior quality. Gaps are all differnet sizes. Terrible.

I wasn't referring to the gaps. I was referring to the friggin chew marks at the top of the dash opening. I have a 2002 Blazer and my dash opening doesn't look like someone chewed on it.

  7. For best reception, put your xm antenna on the roof.

I thought that is where all GPS antennas have to go? That's where I already have my navi antenna mounted. I have te wiring underneath the weather stripping on my dirvers side t-top. I was going to run the XM Nav Traffic antenna the same way but on the passenger side. Then have the two antenna meet eachother side by side in the middle of the roof right behind the "T". Would that be sufficient or do I need to distance the two antennas a certain amount to get optimal reception?

    ~Keith

You don't necessarily need your GPS antenna to be on your roof. Most have chosen to mount their antennas in their dash/on top of their dash. I have mind mounted within my dash and I get a good signal. I have only one antenna on my roof; my XM one.

  8. My 2002 Chevy Blazer came with a factor 1 1/2 din radio. In 2003, Chevy Blazers/S10s came with a double din RDS radio with a double din dash bezel. I learned that the double din bezels were interchangable with my 1.5 din bezel.

However, behind the bezel was a different story. The radio mounting points were spaced further apart (wider) than 2003-up double din dashes. With this in mind, I had to fabricate a new bracket. With a Metra 99-2003 kit, a dremel, some JB Weld, and some ingenuity I fabricated the bracket in the pictures below. I went a little heavy on the JB Weld since that bracket would be supporting the weight of the entire unit. I also had to do a little trimming at the top of the dash as well as inside the dash.

I installed my backup camera yesterday also. I placed it in a spot that's pretty much hidden from view. You have to really be looking for it to find it.

I must say I love the unit so far. It looks like it belongs in the dash; moreso than my previously installed single din Alpine CDA 9835.

  9. I had to install my backup camera yesterday so I had to disconnect the battery on my truck. I too was worried about the D3 losing settings. To answer your question: yes AND no.

It retained my GPS locations such as "home" and "go to" and even my custom color setting for the button colors.

It didn't retain my EQ, XM presets, radio presets, and any other options.

I had it disconnected for a good 3 hours or so.

  10. I'm looking for a background that integrates a chevy bowtie with the ZR2 spash. If anyone could make it I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Here is the ZR2 spash (without the GM of course):

If you could change the ZR2 spash to a color different than red (perhaps a dark blue) that would be awesome. Thanks again.

Edit: Ah, I found some blue ones:
