Correction the latest firmware is 1.20!
-
The same happened to me once, so far while using Waze. The latest firmware is 1.14. You might try to upgrade as I hear it fixes several CarPlay issues.
-
CarPlay works well for me. iPhone 6+ with NEX8000. However, for some weird reason, my USB cable failed. Once I swapped that able it worked fine. Coincidence? Hmmmm
-
Did you try the other USB port? Carplay only works on one of the two, I forgot which.

I have 6+ On 8.4 and CarPlay running perfect.

From the WWDC today:
"CarPlay: Audio apps, now supports apps by automakers to control things in the car. More kinds of screens, HiDPI. Wireless CarPlay. Apple to get in car without taking phone out of the bag and start experiencing CarPlay effortlessly."
Coming Fall 2015.

I connect my iPhone via the A/V Adapter and can watch DirecTV using my Slingbox!
-
Both Carplay and App Radio use USB 1 only. When using app radio you are only using the USB for charging. The lightening adapter does not pass though USB data. So yes, its a pain in the ass. Hopefully Pioneer updateàs can find a solution for this sad incovienience.

Great topic! I use Car Play mainly. However, I miss my Waze. Waze is critical to life in Los Angeles. I also like to put football on the HDMI when I'm stuck in traffic. I really hate what a pain it is to switch back an forth, but when I do I tend to stay in that mode until I'm forced to switch. One thing I learned is that when you are in App Radio Mode phone calls are handled by unreliable bluetooth. Whereas CarPlay uses the mic directly and the people on the other end of the line can hear me much better.

There's a setting inside the waze app that allows it to be controlled by app radio. Scroll all the way down in settings to "External Device" and flip on "control waze from car unit."

If you hold down your map button your rear camera will pop on. #readthereleasenotes

Where do you see that? The website still shows 1.06 as the latest firmware version.
I don't see it either.

New firmware update 1.07 is out now.
Good to know thanks

It's working for me...but intermittently and buggy. It's weird. Sometimes it works great sometimes I can't get it to start. Keep force quitting the apps and go into your smart phone set up in the Pioneer and flip it from the USB back to the AV adapter. Also reset and re-pair your Bluetooth on both ends.

I watch my Slingbox via HDMI on my 8000 and it works great!

Well I upgraded my iPhone 5 to 8.0.2 and Carplay works fine, but AppRadio is stuck on "Launch the appradio app" and even though the app is running I cannot see the apps. It worked for like 30sec then just stopped. Hmmmm.

Hello all,
Like most of you here, I'm trying to install the 1.06 update onto my NEX (4000 model), which is currently on 1.02. Here are the things I've done:
- Triple checked that I got the right file from the website.
- Formatted a USB drive as FAT32 (tried this on my PC and Mac even though it shouldn't make a difference).
- Put the whole "AVIC5000NEX" file on the root of the drive.
- Put the USB drive in USB1.
- Turned the audio source to off.
- Made sure my phone was physically and wirelessly disconnected.
But when I go to settings >system > system information, "Firmware Update" is grayed out! I have also repeated all of the above steps with an SD card and had the same results.
In troubleshooting, I have restarted my car multiple times, but no luck. But the most interesting thing is when I tried going to "restore settings", all of the options are grayed out here as well! So I cannot reset any of the settings, which seems like a red flag that something bigger may be going on. I considered maybe 1.02 can't update directly to 1.06, but I haven't seen that problem mentioned anywhere in the documentation.
can anyone think what the issue may be?
Thank you for any assistance!
When you say "Put the whole "AVIC5000NEX" file on the root of the drive" make sure we are talking about the actual expanded folder from the zip file and NOT the zip file itself. You will need to uncompress the zip file before putting it onto your USB drive.

Can anyone confirm post-1.06 update that App Radio still works in iOS 8.0.2?? Since CarPlay seems to be working with iPhone 6 I am curious if App Radio et. al. is broken as was warned by Pioneer a few weeks ago.
TIA!

What does the NEX interface button do????
That takes you back to the normal NEX operating system interface.
-
I don't like the album artwork in the background. Apple should mirror the Apple TV display for music.
Hit the "Mode" button while playing and you will quickly and easily see the regular NEX iPod interface with all the artwork and all the id3 info you like.

Carplay is not functional at all for me. I did the update, and when plugging the phone in nothing seems to have changed. I only have the same old options as far as HD Radio, or iPod function. No Carplay logo on my phone either when plugged in. What am I missing? is there a secret piece to enabling it?
You need to be using the USB1 port and you need to go into smartphone settings and set it for iPhone USB.

Looks like Pioneer's site is STILL having problems. Here's a mirror to my personal FTP server to help out my fellow NEXers. Please DO NOT PUBLISH link outside of avic411.com
and same for my Google Drive

I can confirm that AppRadio still works when in "Digital A/V" mode, but it is an "either/or" situation. You cannot do both at the same time.

Does anybody know if it is possible to flash this firmware on a European unit? (I have a AVH-X8600BT which is just a renamed AVIC-4000NEX).
--- Update ----
Sorry, forget my question, I've just seen, that the document says US/Canadian units only
I would imagine so. The manual I downloaded was in many languages including French.
