  1. Yeah...I've wanted to throw it out the window several times.  I didn't end up sending it to Pioneer because I didn't want to be without any type of stereo in my car for the XXX months they would have it, only to tell me it was somehow my fault.

I appreciate the info...I'm going to look into that.  Do you know which files would need to be copied over to the unit in order to perform the update?  Or does anyone else on here know what process the update takes?

  2. Ok so some of you have probably seen my issues, but I'll highlight here.  I have an X930BT and have tried updating my splash screen...can't do it.  Tried updating to the 2012 upgrade...can't do it.  Tried updating to the 2013 upgrade today...can't do it.  All of these come back with an update failed.  The map upgrades get to 99% before they say it.

I believe that there is some type of write/permission issue that my unit has that is preventing any of these from writing to the internal memory.  However, using test mode I am able to copy/paste files as needed.

So my question is this:  Is there a way to decompile what the automated process is for these map upgrades, and copy the files myself using test/hack mode?  At this point (2 years trying), I feel that this really is the only way.  Additionally, is there a way to change the splash screen via test mode?

Thanks and much appreciate any responses!

  3. You can download the original firmware update from Pioneer still (its the only thing you can download from their website for X930BT).  Once you download those there's a folder you get called "AVICZ110".  In that folder, you navigate to PRG0 and copy that whole folder to an SD card.  Copy the contents to your PRG0 folder on your HU, and you should be good to go to follow the rest of the instructions I posted.

In the meantime, you can listen to your FM radio via testmode (not Sirius, unfortunately....).  I did that for like 3 months lol.

  4. Ok dude after a 4 month break, fresh start, I got out of it.  Here's what I did:

    - Download original update AVICZ110 from Pioneer on fresh SD

    - Install Update.  It came through and said "incorrect SD, please insert correct SD card" or whatever.  This is good.  This means its now in update mode, which we can get out of.

    - Went in to test mode, deleted my PRG0 folder contents, and recopied over the originals from the update files (AVICZ110)

    - Went into test mode, went into user->system->download and deleted the startknd.log out of there, and boom, it works.  Its still not updated, but now I have a working unit, so I'm satisfied for now.

  5. Ok so I'm sure some of you have already seen my posts in other threads over trying to update my x930 from 3.0001.  I appreciate the advice of Pionara and RonS, as it has helped me in the past to at least recover the unit back to 3.001.  As of 2 months ago, I had tried everything, downloaded the files from 3 different sources, changed 4 different SD cards, 2 different computers, to no avail.  This thing will NOT update.  So, despite my reservations, I decided to try the ebay route since I know that even though you're paying for a free service, many had seen success since the files he was providing were legit and tested to be working.  So, I bought one of his updates for $25.  Same issue - gets all the way to 99%, and fails.  He even tried to work me through the usual steps of redownloading (thankfully he had a google drive link), switching cards, reformatting, etc.  NOTHING will work.

Now, before everyone says "ok have you tried ______" or "search the forums", you will see from many other threads that I've done all that.  I think there is literally something wrong with my unit, something that is corrupt, that will not allow the update to finish writing files to the unit.  I mentioned in another post that I've been unable to successfully apply my own splash images (again, another example of not being able to write files to the unit).

Since trying to install the purchased update, I was stuck in upgrade mode ("Please insert an SD card....etc"), and tried the usual delete PRG.FLG.  After this, I got no applicable program.  I saw that PRG0 files had been erased, and copied over PRG1 using testmode.  Still no applicable program.  Then I went back to my 210 update backup, and copied over PRG1 to both, and I'm back to being stuck in upgrade mode.  I renamed PRGx.FLG from my original 210 upgrade and copied it over, and I'm still stuck in upgrade mode.  Before I was able to get out of it using these steps, but no longer.

So I pose a few questions to the experts:

    1.  Any thoughts on how to at least recover the unit to functioning condition until I can investigate further into updating?  I am able to get into test mode just fine, and have backups of my USER folder on my computer.  Just nothing is working at this point.

    2.  Is there some sort of logging process that is performed by the update program to let us see what specific file writing failed during the update?  This might help me track down what it is I need to focus on.

    3.  Is there a way to manually perform the functions of the update through test mode?  If the automated update process is failing, maybe I can somehow copy the files over myself, trace down what files are failing to be copied (for instance, what task is being performed at 99% progress during the update), and perform that task myself.

I seem to be the only one having these *specific* issues, which is why I formed another thread.  Nothing thus far as worked.

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide!

  6.

No offense but I get tons of PMs from folks who did not really research or read the threads completely, usually asking me about things which have already been covered in the thread. So I delete alot of pm's without response.

Read back through this entire thread, and look at the EU version in the F series hacks/mods.

Basically, you need to kick your unit out of upgrade mode and try again, but with redownloaded, reunzipped/etc, and reformmated sd card.

Several folks have been having problems with corrupt downloads, funky unzipping programs (example: that dont unzip empty folders?!), or bad sd cards.

I completely understand that you probably just ignore a lot....which is why I included so much in my message.  I've literally researched every thread I can find on here.  I've downloaded the file from 3 separate sources, switched 3 different SD cards, tried both mac and PC, and can't seem to get it to work.  Each time I've had to manually get it out of upgrade mode.  I've given up at this point because I'm convinced there has to be something wrong with the unit itself.  And the fact that its showing 2012 splash screen is even more screwed up.  Any thoughts from there?

    Thanks!

  7. Ok did that and was getting a "Program Start Error" on startup....wouldn't recognize SD cards again. Reloaded the original RenewallFLib.dll from PRG1 and it boots fine now. Getting a 2012 splash screen, but everything else is still on the old 3.0 firmware, and says version 3.0001. Not sure what else to do here...I've done all I know how. Is it possible that somehow both versions of the update I downloaded were corrupted somehow? I compared the MD5s and they are identical...but that's really the only thing I have left to check?

Update: Was able to manually edit and successfully copy the modified RenewallFLib.dll over to the unit, and it accepted it, and still functions. Put the update SD card in and it recognized it. Update failed. I quit....

  8. Checked that...was absolutely able to get it to boot into regular mode after deleting that file. Thanks for that! Now I at least know how to get it operational.

Update: I tried the update again with a freshly formatted SD card, still no luck. Same failure at 99%.

I started digging deeper, and checking into the old method, I opened my original RenewallFLib.dll in a hex editor and it hadn't been edited by autoreplace. I manually edited it and am going to shoot it over again now and retry the update to see if that maybe fixes it. Will get back to you shortly

  9. Ok I've been trying this for a few hours...I have an x930BT and have had it updated to 3.001 for quite some time. Trying to do the supereasymethod update but I keep getting the "an error occurred and the update failed" with a retry button after the first part of the install gets to 100%. I downloaded the update from the reposted link that someone posted on the original update thread. I'm downloading the torrent version now to try that but here's what I've done so far:

Switched SD cards (was using a SanDisk 32gb, switched to a different brand 16GB sd)

Was doing this on my mac, so I switched to a VM, re-unzipped the file using the VM and put it on the 16gb SD. Same result

Switched to the 32GB again, unzipped through VM, no dice.

I've ensured that the files are copied to the root of the SD card (2 folders and one file) each time.

My method was to unzip the RAR to the SD card, then copy the files from the Z140 files folder into the root, then get rid of that folder once they're copied over, so only the 3 files remain.

I've also copied the patched VERINFO.dat over as instructed for each try, as well.

Nothing is working. When I restart the unit, it will not do anything, but will say it cannot continue without an SD card. So at this point, I'm stuck with a unit that won't do anything. Your help is greatly appreciated!

I also tried to install Hackmode v2 but could not get it to run, either (just to see if I could get the unit running). I was able to open v1.4, though.

The only thing I can do with it right now is use testmode to copy and paste things...can't get it to even recognize the update sd card.

Update: copied over the backed up PRG file and was able to get back to where I can install the update...also got a 2012 splash screen on startup, but it still says I can't continue without an SD card and then the update still fails at 99%.

  10. My X930BT won't install new splash screens from the SD card. It will read them and display them correctly on the screen, but then says "Splash Screen Update Failed" as soon as I click OK. Called Pioneer and their solution was reset (which was done, no dice), and then send in for service. Also tried formatting the SD Card, used a DIFFERENT SD card....but nothing will work. Any ideas before I send this stupid thing in to Pioneer?

  11. Hello all. I've had the 930BT for about 5 months now. I bought a new car, and installed it today in my new car. FIRST TRY when I turned it on, it asked for my password (which I know, and confirmed it's correct using test mode), but all keys were grayed out and I could not enter anything. Disconnected power, checked all wiring, and tried again with no luck. Test mode functions fine, but this thing is locked for sure. Any ideas?
