I have the exact same issue, so what your saying is too just play around with the cables ?

I have this same problem. My Iphone 4s when connected to cable only plays on one side of my car, which is unusual. I tried a different ipod and still not working right. Think the cables broken or what ? When played through BT or radio it sounds great.
