  1. I have issues with music not playing when the phone is plugged in from time to time no matter the file. I often have to pull the cable out and reinsert and everything is fine. It's one of my major frustrations with the unit and CarPlay. I'm not sure which is to blame.

  2. I must be thick, because I can't figure out how to do this.  I have a 4200, so maybe its different.  But, can you slow down the steps here a bit.  I go into CarPlay.  Then I hit the "home button"... I am assuming you are talking about the physical home button on the 4200, and that takes me to the main Pioneer home screen... not in CarPlay any longer.  I then go into settings and there is no "Picture Adjustments" setting that I can find on any menu.  The closest thing is under Themes, there is an Illumination setting but can't figure out what that does... no adjustment ability there.

Also, is there a way to take screen shots in CarPlay... that would help convey what I'm seeing.

    Thanks.

See my post that I responded to you on, on Mac Rumors. Take a screen shot the same way you would take a screen shot of your phone. While in CarPlay and your phone is in sleep, press sleep and home button.

  3. I have an 8000 so YMMV. Go into CarPlay and then hit the home button and then the Settings icon. Go to Picture Adjustments and the adjustment controls will appear over CarPlay. Adjust accordingly. This will not effect the picture settings of the main unit. Be sure to do this during daylight and at night so you can adjust for each time.

I could not even see album art with the default settings. Had to crank brightness and lower contrast a bit. So the answer to your question is yes.

This is how I do it on an 8000 NEX. Not sure if your unit is the same.

  4. I wonder if Apple has been sitting on CarPlay approval for both Pandora and Slacker. Interesting that they just showed up recently.

Pandora users should check their App updates to see if this was part of the last round of updates. Apple Radio is junk so nice to have better alternatives.

  5. I do wish Apple makes were less reliant on cell phone signal so I could use it wherever I am. For that reason alone I'm forced to use a head unit with on board maps.

Also, there is no shuffle artist button in CarPlay now. Siri is especially annoying. Siri, shuffle artist Foo Fighters. Bitch comes back with, "Here are some popular Foo Fighters songs." Ugh. That's not what I asked!

  6. I do wish the artwork was a tad sharper but even when it was it had that horrible black mask over it. Yes in bright sunlight it is a little hard to see but I'm fine with that. The fade made it look like half my screen was broken and I'd barely see the top third of the artwork. I even toned down my brightness and contrast settings.

  7. I have to take back what I said earlier about the Album Art implementation in iOS 9. I downloaded the beta and I think this may be the best release yet. No, you don't see a a sharp rendering of the album art, but you do get a fullscreen blur of the art that is very tasteful and "artistic". For the most part, the ugly banding is gone from Carplay trying to fade the image to black from top to bottom. The entire screen is now filled with color so it doesn't look like half your screen is broken. The brightness also seems to be much better. Yes, I am still cranking the Brightness a bit but before I also had to mess with the contrast. I no longer have to do that. I'm very happy!

  8. Yes, Apple is THE problem. When CarPlay launched the album art filled the screen. There was no fade around the controls. It was still dim be viewable. Someone must have thought the art was a distraction to drivers, especially if it meshed with the the onscreen controls and added the fade making it almost pointless to be there. This new "solution" is even worse.

  9. Yes, that is usually the case, but Pandora has also lagged behind with suggestions that its relationship with Apple was complicated. It might be more difficult to get an app approved through Apple then for Google as well. Spotify was also launched a long time before Apple had its own streaming service and the app itself has been garbage since Day 1.

Still, I'd like to see the Slacker interface on Android Auto. Can you see all your Favorites or just a few, etc.

  10. I saw the news that Slacker Radio is now available on Android Auto. I'm hoping this gets a release to Carplay with iOS 9 but I'm getting the feeling Apple is not making the approval process easy for any company that might be competing with Apple Music.

Has anyone tried the app an AA? How is the interface, etc.?

  11. I find CarPlay the better alternative to navigating my playlists, contacts, messaging and accessing other audio apps on my phone. That said, once I have what I need up and running I find the navigation in the 8000 blows away Apple Maps and the album art solution in CarPlay is bad to the point of annoyance. CarPlay has a ways to go yet before it reaches its full potential but it's a must have for me.

  12. I had this problem initially with my USB and thought it was 1.08. I couldn't figure it out for the life of me. I believe the way I fixed it was to put another USB in so the database changed. Once I went back to my normal USB it re indexed itself and was working the way it should.

Actually I read this again. I don't think my iPod pauses anymore but it might be an improvement with iOS 8.3. If it's paused at least I can get to the same song that was playing. It's tough to say how much is the head unit and how much is phone related.

  13. Not having to lock is definitely a good thing. Even better, is the last song playing continues to play after restarting the car. Before, I would turn the car off, go inside or run an errand and when I got back would have to restart the playlist. Not happening so far. Also, I have not had the issue where the phone connects in silence, that required me to unplug and plug the phone back in again. Pretty happy so far...oh..Spotify still sucks.
