  1. I decided to upgrade my 3GS to a 4S instead of an iPhone5. I saved $100 on the phone and I figure another $120 in new cables I would need to connect to my peripherals. I can use all my current peripherals with my Otterbox Defender case on as well.
  2. AFAIK, no iOS device outputs video at the headphone jack, only audio.
  3. Re-reading tail24 reply above, it seems that an i5 audio will work fine with the current Apple AV composite cable and the new lightning adapter. There should be no need for anything to have to connect into the headphone jack, just plug into the dock connector as I do now with my 3GS and play away. I should have access to an i5 in a week or so and will test it out before I commit to a purchase of one myself.
  4. Good job getting more details, tail24 and JasonH. Nice to know that analog audio out will be passed through the new connector. I may get an iPhone 5 yet! I'll wait for others to confirm that it does indeed "play nice" with the Avic.
  5. My understanding is that the data supplied at the new connector is only digital and no analog sound will be available. Perhaps some type of cabling connecting via the earphone jack output will be needed.
  6. Apple is going to add to our cable problems. The new dock connector know as "lightning" will have an adapter to allow it to be used with our 30 pin connectors, but according to Apple, "This adapter lets you connect devices with a Lightning connector to many of your 30-pin accessories.* Video and iPod Out not supported." So, if you get a new iPhone 5, you have to get a new AV cable to connect to your Avic. I don't see these mentioned anywhere at this time.
  7. tail24, have you noticed if you can play videos on the F700 under iOS6 without having to change around the AV1 settings to "video"?
  8. Word is that Apple is the sole manufacturer of adapters to be used with the new size dock connector. They will be $10 each or a pack of 3/$29. This story is all over the 'net today.
  9. This issue arises in many cars because, unbeknownst to the owner, there is an antenna amplifier in line with your antenna that needs power to make it work. My 2005 Subaru WRX was like this. I didn't realize that a pin in the harness actually supplied this power. I never knew there was an amp. It's particularly common on cars with in glass antennae.
  10. Many of us have found out that if you just be patient and change the color to what you want, after a few times it will eventually "stick:" and not reset itself to the default each time you restart the unit. It takes several days, then eventually sticks. Mine acted the same way, then "stuck" and has been fine for many months.
  11. The problem is not with the 4S, it is with iOS 5.x. To play videos on an F series unit, change your AV1 input on the F unit to video instead of ipod. You then control your video from your phone instead of the F unit.
  12. That does not fix his issue. I have an Apple AV cord as do many other readers and the problem persists. The issue is with the Apple OS, period.
  13. Bearir, Be warned, an iphone using iOS5.x will not play video if you touch the video button on a F700BT. It crashes the unit and causes it to re-boot. To play video, you change the video 1 input to video and can then play youtube videos, etc. This is an issue with the iOS firmware documented elsewhere. http://avic411.com/index.php?/topic/34315-iphone-4s-issue/page__hl__%2Biphone+%2Bvideo__fromsearch__1
  14. I had the same problem with my F700BT and 3.1 firmware. Eventually, after needing to reset the color about three times or so, it stuck. No issues in several weeks now.
