  1. Hi, I started to have problems with my rear view camera. It looks like it needs to be replaced. Can anyone suggest a replacement.  All the ones that I am finding have RCA connections where the current one does not.  Any suggestions or advice would be most helpful.

    Thank you in advance,

    Howard

  2. Long time Z2 user. Really have had no problems since now.  My rear view camera stopped working.  Origianlly it would work then a couple of months ago it would work on and off.  It would be working, then all of the sudden the picture started to go out and then come back.  This went on for a couple of months until it completely stopped working.  I was thinking it was just a loose connection and really didn't have time to hunt it down since I really didn't use it that much.  But recently I purchased a trainler and can use the trailer viewing mode when traveling.

I traced the problem back to the camera itself.  It looks like the wires were loose and barely hanging onto the circuit board.  I had to cut the wires 4 inches back from the camera to bring it to my shop to re-solder it.  Once I did that I tried to resolder the sections I cut but it still does not work.  Sometimes when I am playing with the wires I do get a video for a short period of time so I really do believe I am at the source.  The camera is getting 2.4 volts steadily so I think it is the video wire.

Any suggestions would be helpful.  Do they sell just the camera, so I don't have to buy the whole kit?

    Thanks in advance,

    Howard

  3. Hi, I am having difficulty pairing up the touch pro and the Z2 and was wondering if anyone else is having a problem or was able to do it. When I try to pair it and set my phone to search and go through the Z2 and try to establish setting through the navi system it can not locate the phone. But when I do it through the phone it sees it but, when I enter the Navi system passcode it does not accept it. I dont know if I changed the passcode, I dont even know if it is possible.

Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or suggestions.

    Thanks,

    Howard

  4. I am trying to upgrade my Z2 firmware due to the freezing issue. I have searched the forum and had no luck with the answer to this question. How do I make the CD-R work in the HU. I use the software Nero and I tried a straight data disk, iso disk and iso finalized disk and they all can not be read by the HU. It just says CD-Rom inserted.

    I would appreciate any suggestions,

    Thanks

  5. To follow up with this thread this is what I have done so far. I received my government 40 dollar rebate card :-) Bought the converter box at RS 59.99-40.00, then got 25% off a HDTV antenna for 24.99-25%. I rough installed it to the unit, but not realizing that I needed to plug the antenna into AC, I only bough a single DC/AC converter. But after I ran an extension cord for the antenna everything worked pretty well. Reception was good, signal strength was up to the top range and working great. I did try it without power to the antenna and did a get a few channels, but not as much as with the power. Next step is to get another DC/AC converter and have everything powered by the truck, and take it for a spin to see if the signal or reception goes in and out on the move. Does anyone know of any HDTV antenna that works well without AC power? Will keep you posted.

  6. Just thinking a little bit. Would it be possible to hook a wireless mic system to the Z series. Maybe find a battery operated receiver and a tie clip microphone. Probably need a lot of conversions such as stereo mic input to 3.5 mm input but that is all possible. I was just wondering if anyone knows of any system that can be tried.

  7. Is this a converter only? and not a HD tuner? If installed, can we still use the Pioneer TV tuner, to control it through the HU, or would this be connected to the AV in, and controlled separately?

This is a Digital TV tuner it will receive the New signal you won't be able to control this with the HU , only Volume. it comes with a remote control and a pretty nice menu, very easy to use.

So I can deal with that. I can deal with this little box stuffed in the well with everything else, connect it to a DC port and connect it to the RCA input jacks and control it with its own remote. I am curious to see how good the reception is or more important how many channels I will get.

CRD how are the instructions on making your own converter?

    Thanks in advance.

  8. Just went to the Radioshack link, and applied for the converter coupon for 40 bucks. It said I was approved just have to wait for it in the mail. I then can get the box for 20 bucks or so.

Once I get it, if I want to use an AC to DC converter, then plug it into the rca input jacks, would I get signal? Does it capture over the air frequency? and how would that work if traveling long distances? Would it need to search multiple times in different areas?

  9. No, but running the RCA lines is not that bad. I have a game port in my center console that I use. I just purchased a nano, and what I do is advance record programs from my DVR to my HDD with converts them to QTime for the Ipod, then sync the pod. Take the nano plug it into the game port and watch my recorded programs. Seems like a lot of work, but not really, only thing I do manually is transfer the file to Itunes, and that is it.

  10. I was the proud owner of a Z2 for approx two weeks before someone trashed the passenger door and dash of my F250 (over $6k in damage) so after dealing with a skeptical insurance company I now have a $200 radio in it... Have been hoping either the Z2 would drop to well under $1000 or the Z3 would include a security feature (like a removable faceplate or motorized screen cover).

I'd love to get the Z2/Z3 again since I still have the accessory modules installed (XM/Navtraffic, mic, aux inputs, gps) as they only stole the head unit - but I can't see buying the darn thing again only to get ripped off again, I have a highly noticeable truck, can't avoid thieves walking by to peek in my windows. I could try tinting them more but ideally I need a way to either remove the screen or camouflage it.

Ironically, my truck is a Harley Davidson edition F250, and was parked outside a restaurant where about 60 Harleys were parked for a club meeting, and supposedly the restaurant watches over our bikes yet they didn't notice my alarm going off or broken glass all over the place. They have new car alarms that snap a picture of the perp, but what good will that do if they are in and out in seconds? I need a mechanical pit bull or something I guess, or a radio that doesn't look like an expensive radio...

    Any ideas?

Teccec- I know how you feel, I had one ripped out of my expedition and it sucks. It seems that Fords are very easy to break in to. I have heard that all they need to do is use a screwdriver in the lock and turn. It took a long time for me to replace mine. The upgrades that I did make in prep of the new one, was darker tints for my front, a two way pager alarm by skytek which does snap a photo, but I rely on the pager more and I did move away from the original area. But even without the move I still did all the upgrades. I also put a supplement on my car insurance, I use geico, which with my 50 dollar deductible they replaced everything; head unit, add ons, my dash, and the install cost the next day. Bottom line, just like radar detectors, if you make something more secure, someone will find away around it. Good luck, and don't let those bastards ruin your enjoyment of driving....go for another Z series.
