I had a place here in Steubenville, OH do the install of my D3 in my 1991 Volvo 940SE, Sirius and iPod connector. I did this because I felt that the job was a little too intense and that there would need to be some fabrication done also.
I brought it to the shop and the shop owner ended up working for my dad years ago and was pretty friendly. He said he would need to order a part to bypass the Volvo factory amps, which seemed ok with me. He charged me $240 for the install and the part. I didn't think that seemed totally outrageous considering I didn't buy any of the hardware from him.
So I drop it off Wednesday morning and he calls me mid-afternoon saying that there are a few issues, one being that the piece he ordered only bypasses the dash speakers, I wasn't quite sure at the time, but I didn't believe the dash speakers in Volvos were connected to an amp, only the 4 door speakers. He then proceeds to tell me that to get the door speakers working he needs to rewire all the doors and that it's going to cost me another $240, which included a missing cable that supposedly didn't come with my SIR-PNR2, I also felt that this wasn't true. I guess I should have put up a red flag when he said this, but I paid it, hoping that my car was going to look and sound great.
I pick it up yesterday and much to my dismay the car is a wreck! My glove box was broken, he installed a toggle switch for the parking brake, which I also believed wasn't necessary (I gave him the bypass procedure from this site) and while I'm driving video does not play unless I'm going about 10mph. I don't know if he connected the VSS wire either, in 3D calibration, it gives me a MPH reading that is within 2-3MPH of the speedometer. Worst of all, he didn't fabricate a bezel, instead he glued the bezel that came with the unit onto my dash!
I was shocked because this guy has a nice shop and I have seen some of his other work and it was good. Here are some pics:

Im new to the site so hello to all....
I have a few questions concerning the d3. this will be my first navi system so if the questions are ignorant my apologies.
1)can you hookup an xm receiver and a cd changer to the d3 at the same time or do they use the same outlet?
Yes, you can connect both.
2)the d3 will be going in a 04 dodge ram and the install will have to be custom, has anyone else installed a double din in a dodge ram? if so did you run into to any issues with the install?
Use the search function and you will find Dodge installs.

You might need a trim piece to go around, if you can't find a double-dash kit, go to a reputable shop in your area and have them take a peek.

I have a 91 940SE Volvo that I want to upgrade the speakers:
3.5" x 1 pair in the Dash
5.25 x 2 pair in the doors (I think the front doors can hold a 6.5" though)
Anyways I had Infinity Reference in there before and I was really impressed with them even though I was running them with the factory head unit. Does anyone have any recommendations for new speakers?

It'll be in a couple of days when I get it back from the body shop.

Well I made the plunge over the weekend and ordered a D3. Is there a particular Volvo wiring kit I will need?

Well after all the years I've spent looking at navigations and wanting to get one, I think I'm finally going to take the plunge and get the AVIC-D3 for my 91 Volvo 940SE.
Basically, there are 2 single DIN openings which when both are removed, make a double DIN opening. The stock radio fills one of these openings and the other is a storage space. My feeling is that with both of these removed it should allow for a double DIN unit like the AVIC-D3 to slide right in.
Here is a picture, though it doesn't do much justice, this is not from my vehicle as its in the body shop currently:
I'm just curious, has anyone ever done an install on an older Volvo like mine? Would a double DIN kit from a newer model Volvo fit? I'm shying away from the single DIN Pioneer units, because I feel with the screen ejected it would interfere with being able to access the heater controls, not to mention its a cleaner look with just the screen.
Also, what are the differences between the D1, D2 and D3, I'm trying to be economical at the same time.
I appreciate any help offered.
I think I got screwed on my install....
