  1. I don't have an android phone but I think you need to calibrate it. Sadly this forum is mostly iPhone at the moment. I know there is a more android centric AppRadio forum. When I have time I will try to find it for you. I think they can help more than we can.

  2. First off calm down. I know the changes are annoying at first, and yes in some ways you are losing some capability with the change. Remember it is still far better than having to replace you're entire radio because you got a new phone.

    Calm yet? Hope so.

Pandora doesn't play over bluetooth, it's controlled via bluetooth. All audio is routed from the HDMI and is actually better quality than the analog audio you were sending before. So there is your first improvement.

Your phone thinks it's an Android phone because you have the radio set to Other mode. disconnect your iPhone, turn off bluetooth on your iPhone, turn the radio off by sliding to the right and pressing the speaker icon and then go into settings. In settings find the device chooser. Based on your post I am thinking it is set to Other. Change it to iPhone AV Digital. Once you have done that re-enable your bluetooth and plug your iPhone back in. Your car should recognize your phone correctly now.

You do not lose Siri control. I chose new songs through siri all the time with my 5 and it works without a problem. You do lose the iPod app but you just use the carmediaplayer app instead. It is a far smoother app than the built in app.

Any other questions? Feel free to ask, but don't yell at us. We didn't do anything to you and are happy to help when you're calm about it.

  3. Yeah that gives you nothing that using the cable that already comes with the radio and a cheap HDMI cable wouldn't have solved. For the record, HDMI cables are digital cables and aren't affected by interference. Each pin caries a binary code and all the radio needs is the pattern for a clean signal. It is like turning lights on and off. Regardless of how shitty the light is, if you can tell whether or not the light is on, you can read a pattern of it turning on and off. As long as what is receiving the signal receives the pattern, you will get a perfectly clean output regardless of how much interference is nearby.

  4. I don't use it with an android phone, but I will try my best to answer your questions.

    1. No. Audio is handled by the HDMI.

    2. I think you will be fine but I'm not sure exactly what the problem is because again, I don't use android.

    3. You would need to use ARLiberator to get google maps support as far as touch, but your car would display google maps onscreen regardless. You just would not be able to control it with your radio without ARLiberator.

    4. Yes. This is a fully supported feature.

    5. Auto pairs but if you press the X on the top right corner it sends the audio straight to the phone. Gotta say though, the microphone on the appradio 2 is very good.

    6. No. However what you can do if you'd like would be to get an HDMI splitter and then send the HDMI to the back. Then whatever is on your android screen is on the back monitors. You then use ARLiberator and play a movie. Either that or just buy them two tablets for the back. This costs about the same amount of money and your kids would be far happier with you.

    7. Yes. The AppRadio is far nicer than your little clip. It auto connects.

    8. I have no clue what your harness looks like so I can't help you there bud. I know things like the GPS and the microphone should be the same but that's it for what I know.

Hope that helped. Seriously get an appradio 2 and use ARLiberator. You will create the most powerful car radio on the planet.

  5. Pioneer didn't make this an option. When the AppRadio is in 5 mode the iPod app is completely disabled. I just tried this myself.

    It's infuriating for two reasons

    1. The AppRadio actually fully supports this. Android phones are controlled exactly the same way as the 5, and AppRadio fully supports (it is actually one of the features) letting you run an Android phone and an iPod at the same time. However the iPhone 5 is locked out of this feature.

    2. CarMediaPlayer sucks!!!! Oh my god the built in iPod app on the AppRadio 2 is so much more powerful! The only thing the CarMediaPlayer has going for it is app smoothness. The built in iPod app is more powerful by miles.

Things the iPod app does that CarMediaPlayer doesn't.

    1. lets you go back to the previous page you were at after you've already picked your song. Fantastic for when you accidentally click the wrong song.

    2. Lets you jump to right where the song is in your library from the song page. This includes being able to see where the artist is in the artists page, where the album is in the albums page, and where the song itself is in the song's page. THE BUILT IN IPHONE APP DOESN'T EVEN LET YOU DO THAT!!!!!

    3. See track metadata when in other apps by double pressing the home button.

It's an amazing app and I so wish Pioneer will update the CarMediaPlayer app to give me some of this functionality with the carmedia player level of smoothness. I miss that iPod app so badly.

  6. The da100 is miles better, however I feel ya about your da-02. I loved my da01 but there were some soft spots. As far as your requests.

    1. The AppRadio is not a very advanced radio. It makes you think it is, but it isn't. Whenever you switch from app mode to radio mode or vice versa you are literally changing sources. You will notice that no sound comes from the iphone when the radio is in radio mode. That's because the audio is not routing from the phone at all at this point. That is how the hardware of that device works. It doesn't support audio mixing.

    2. Again, best way to think of this is to look at lets say your home surround sound. You can't change radio stations in DVD mode. The AppRadio works the same way. It sucks but that's how it works. It's how most radios work.

    3. I thought it already did this. My DA-01 let me.

    4. Yeah that sucks. Again the DA-100 makes things better, but telling you to upgrade your radio to fix your problems is rude. A solution for you would be that waze supports turning app mode off temporarily so you can still see your map on your phone during the call, but still I know it's not the same.

    5. Can't do that with your iPhone. iOS does not support this in the slightest. Doubt they ever will.

    6. I'm a little unclear as to exactly what your issue is but it sounds like either A. your microphone is far too close to a speaker or B. You have the volume set too high. Try one of the two and see if that fixes it.

    7. Again a little unclear on what you want but I think you're talking about the iPhone prompt asking you to open the AppRadio app. Pioneer has no control over this. Apple doesn't let pioneer simply launch the app when they want to. Apple requires pioneer to ask the user for permission. Now you can bypass this by having the app already launched. When you do that it actually bypasses everything and the second the phone is plugged in the car goes straight to the app.

Hope I could help with some of your gripes and make your phone experience just a little bit better. Good luck man.

  7. Felt that with the range of confusion and misinformation about this topic one of these would be handy. Let me know if I get anything wrong and what I'm missing and I will add and change this to reflect it.

Q: What do I need to get started?
A: You will need an Appradio 2 running version 8.30 of their software, an iPhone 5, a lightning AV adaptor, an hdmi cable, and a lightning cable.

Q: why can't I just use a lightning to 30 pin connector to use my appradio 2?
A: the lightning to 30 pin connector does not provide a video output necessary for appradio apps to work. It only provides USB data, power, and analog audio out.

Q: Do I need the pioneer cable to use my iPhone 5?
A: No. The pioneer cable is just a simplified version of the cable that already comes with the appradio 2 and an hdmi cable. Plugging your lightning cable into the USB port of the iPhone cable that comes with your radio and using your own hdmi cable will produce the exact same results.

Q: Why doesn't pioneer update my appradio 1 to work with my iPhone 5?
A: Because they can't. The appradio 1 has a simpler Bluetooth system that is not designed to control the phone in the way the appradio system needs. With the appradio 2 pioneer already set the system up to control phones via Bluetooth for android devices while using hdmi for video and audio. The iPhone uses a modified version of this system.

Q: why does it need Bluetooth to control my phone?
A: because the lightning AV adaptor does not provide the appradio 2 with a usb data connection. The lightning port on the AV adaptor is solely for power.

Q: How long does it take to connect via Bluetooth?
    A: About 30 seconds.

Q: Why is pandora so slow now?
A: unlike all other appradio apps, pandora is run from the radio's hardware and not mirrored by the phone. The built in app normally gets the data you see via the USB data connection. On the 5 that is not possible. It instead gets the data it needs from Bluetooth. Bluetooth is far slower of a a data transfer system than USB 2.0 so it slows the system down downloading the necessary data to run.

Q: why don't some of my apps work anymore?
A: apps need to be updated to support iOS 6.1 and the iPhone 5 to work with appradio. Until your app is updated it will not work. Check the pioneer website for a list of supported iphone 5 applications.

Q: Why is the iPod app broken?
A: for the same reason pandora is slow now. The iPod app needs the USB data connection that the
Lightning AV adaptor does not provide. Use carmediaplayer to control you iPod music on the appradio. Unlike pandora the iPod app does not support control and metadata via Bluetooth.

Q: can I mirror my display?
A: Yes. You need a parking break bypass.

Q: Can I control my non appradio apps with appradio?
A: not yet. Check the betas for appradio extensions. It may be possible in the future.

  8. Haha the glossiness never bothered me but yeah, a matte screen protector will fix that. Also yeah, about the capacitive, it is designed to be one big iPhone screen. You need capacitive to do multitouch. I would suggest some capacitive friendly gloves. They would also made your day to day phone usage more pleasant since they will work with your iphone as well.

I can't wait to see the setup once it's finished!
