  1. That's a good question, because the wire in the Metra harness was definitely not correct. I don't know what it ties into, but the dimmer does not work for me.
  2. As a follow up, I caught the reverse wire by removing the passenger door sill to expose the large bundle of wires running there and tapped into 1 of the 2 green / brown wires. I got lucky and the first one I tried was the reverse wire, I'm assuming the other was the reverse wire for the other backup light but I didn't test so I'm not sure. Russell
  3. well, I removed the passenger door panel and tested every wire that runs in the passenger door grommet and found none that had 12V hot. So then I moved into the passenger kick panel and tested every wire in the connectors that I could reach and again found none that had 12V hot while the vehicle was turned on. So I ended up just taping into Fuse 41(retained acc power) in the passenger kickpanel. I couldn't get to the back of the fuse panel to see the color of the wire on fuse 41, so I just removed the fuse and soldered a wire to the circuit side of the fuse. I'm going to buy
  4. Anyone know if this is green / blue or green / black? Also a bit more description of the location? Is it in a bundle of wires or on a plastic connector? I tried to find a green wire in the grommet that runs between the passenger door and the passenger kick panel but couldn't find anything that was green / blue or green / black. I really need help ASAP as I'm trying to get this done by tomorrow morning at 10am. Thanks again for all the help so far!!!! Russell
  5. That sounds perfect! Is that color green/blue or green/black, and can I catch it at either side (driver/passenger)? Thanks Sean, Metra has part XSVI-5522 that includes delayed acc power and sub hookup, however it is $80. I figured I could tap into accessory power somewhere and run a wire for the $60 difference in harness price
  6. Thanks Sean! Is this accessory wire the delayed accessory, or will it turn off as soon as the key is removed? Thanks again, Russell
  7. Hey all, I am trying to get the wiring info for the retained acc power and reverse wire on my 2007 expedition. I have been told that retained acc power is in the pass kick panel on fuse 41, but I can't get behind the fuse box to find which wire goes to fuse 41. Thanks in advance, Russell
  8. Just a quick update, to remove the factory radio, simply remove the bezel between the radio and shifter console, it is small and below the main radio bezel. It can be a PITA to remove but it does pop out. Then pull from the bottom up on the main radio bezel and it too pop's right out. I removed my factory radio and confirmed that the dvd and wireless headphones work as before. Anyone know what wiring harness I need? Metra guide suggests the XSVI-5520 but that sucker is expensive ($75) and I'm not sure why? Crutchfield sells a harness for $13 but I'm confused as to why there are 2
  9. Do you have a rear view camera hooked up? I'm dying to know if you can view the rear view camera and navigation at the same time! Thanks
  10. Does anyone know how to remove the factory radio? I can't seem to find out how to do it anywhere. I'm a bit nervous to just go pulling on the fascia like my old expedition. Russell
  11. wakebum, I haven't had it installed yet, because I haven't decided which unit I want yet However, I have spoken with Metra and with a couple of the high end Houston installers and they are all telling me that the factory rear dvd is self-contained and continues to work even without the factory head unit. The Metra guy told me that they were actually doing an install in an 07 and were surprised when they removed the factory head unit and just for fun, hit the power button on the dvd player and it fired right up. He said he picked up a set of headphones and it was playing just fine over t
  12. jmorton, could you elaborate a bit more on your problems? The Z1 is tops on my list right now, so I'd love to hear of the issues you've had with it and comparisons to the 5510. Thanks, Russell
  13. After your first post, I did actually stop by bestbuy to talk to their installers. My local bestbuy is a bit more highend and their installer was actually in his mid 30's and had been installing "profesionally" for 9 years. Anyhow, they gave me a price quote of $400 including the steering wheel interface. Not too bad, but I think I can install this unit without too much effort. I've always installed my own systems in the past. The only thing that bothered me was the DVD and factory amps, but now that Metra has cleared that up for me, I think I'm set. Still looking for the factory pino
  14. So, After finally getting hold of someone at Metra, they told me the factory dvd player is completely independant of the factory stereo. That is, if you remove the factory head unit, the factory dvd will still function as normal, but the audio will only go out of the headphones. No additional harness needed. 1 quirck though, the factory harness does not have a 12V accessory lead, so you have to run one yourself from under the steering column Not a big deal, but a PITA though. I guess it has something to do with how the retained accessory power works but I'm not sure. The other
  15. Hey all, I'm looking to get a nav unit, and the Z1 is tops on my list right now. There are a couple of things that concern me about it, though so I'm also looking at others. However, I haven't been able to find any other units with voice control. Is voice control something you guys use alot? Are there any other manufacturers that use voice control? It seems like it would be a no-brainer as almost all the OEM units are voice controlled, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Thanks for any info, Russell
