I have the same issue on my Avic Z3. Did you have to send it in for repair?

This morning my Avic Z3 would not load/boot up. Power is running to the unit and it lights up when the ignition is on, but the Pioneer splash screen no longer appears. I have an iPod connected to the system, and the iPod's screen has the pioneer logo on it showing that its connected. I'm figuring that the HDD is either fried or worse, the whole unit is gone. Anyone have suggestions? Maybe a new HDD would fix it? Also, how do I get to the installed HDD with the motorized faceplate locked in the closed position? Thanks for any help you can provide.
