  1. Ok, so i have two questions. I've not updated to 1.06 yet (i'm still on 1.01 firmware). I have an 8000nex. Currently i have 2 iPods setup on iPod 1 and iPod2. iPod 1 is my 64GB iPod with iTunes Match and iPod2 is a 16GB iPod running my Audible software that i use to listen to my books. Right now as it stands i can start my car and no matter where i'm at in the pioneer UI my music or book or SXM or HD radio start back after the Pioneer boots up.

I like this and i'm not wanting to screw this up. Every once in a blue moon the audible will start up paused, or switch to music and i have to move it back to audible. Or the iPod1 music starts up paused, but that's like very very rare in the 8-9 months that i've had this unit.

I would like to add the new firmware with CarPlay so that i could use it when i wanted to, although it wouldn't be my typical day to day usage as i'm happy with what i have, but it would be nice to test it out, especially if audible makes a carplay app and they fix the stupid unlock the phone before using it each time retardedness. (although i can see why they do that as it's a security issue for Messages, and email and such but not so much for music.. i mean really? just play music or spotify or maps or whatever was on last, but if i want to click on messages... then maybe ask me (one time) to unlock the phone)....

Several of you are saying it doesn't auto re-start your music or service you were listening too... my first questions is are you just talking about CarPlay? Or does that also affect other iPods on the system, or SXM or HD Radio, etc..? I don't want to screw this up nor try and roll-back to the old firmware or do anything that will wreck what i have at the moment. So need some clarification.

Now my next question is that CarPlay seems to be driven from both the Pioneer side and the iPhone side. So is the firmware on Pioneer just simply an update that has some bare metal instructions on how to deal with CarPlay (and replacing the AppRadio) and everything else is driven from the phone? In other words, are more features/stability/etc... updates for CarPlay gonna require an update from Pioneer (in which case we might not see anything for months and months and months after it's released to them) or is this gonna be driven from updates to iOS in which case we might see it much more often as they push this technology out (especially next year) to production cars and other radios (Alpine, etc...)?

  2. I have had no issues with my 5 & 8000NEX.

Tomorrow, I'll report what my 6+ does.

My iPhone 6 with iOS 8 does not work bluetooth wise with my 8000NEX. When i get in the car to drive down the street, they connect and then it immediately pops up a dialing box, on the screen like i'm calling someone. This cannot be hung up on and upon minimization it pops back up a few moments later and i can't really do anything with my NEX. Sometimes it says Call Waiting, sometimes it's some random number in my phone book. So either the Pioneer until cannot handle bluetooth with 6 (and 6+ i guess) or there's something buggy with how iOS8/iPhones communicate with bluetooth and they need to fix it. On a similar note my MacBook Pro also is having issues bluetoothing to my phone as well. So i'm making an educated guess that it's iOS8/iPhone rather than some newer tech/version that Pioneer can't deal with. I believe they still use bluetooth 4.1 (that should be the latest).

  3. This is more of an FYI...

I have had the 8000NEX  installed and working perfectly since late march when i purchased it. I bought it on the release date and received it 3 days later and immediately installed it that night. 2 weeks ago it started acting odd. It died in the middle of driving. After i arrived home i checked the main Audio fuse in my car and that was good, but i changed it just in case. I pulled the unit out and checked it's fuse and it was perfectly fine, tested with another exactly the same and still no function, then i put the original fuse back in. Put the until back into the dash so i didn't have a hole in my dash and decided to contact Pioneer the next day. The next day, the unit randomly turned on would start at the installation wizard and i would go through those few screens and then i could listen to music and everything seemed to work. Except that the buttons at the bottom were now all messed up. The MODE button became the EJECT button, the MAP button became the mode button and the Volume + or - button would just shut the until completely off. Then randomly it would come back on. Sometimes in the middle of listening to music, without any button pushing, it would just turn off. Then a random amount of time later (minutes, hours or days) it would turn back on. After a few days of this. It started getting worse. It would randomly lower the face panel and act as if i was ejecting a CD (that wasn't even in there), then it would close back up. Sometimes it would turn off while the face was lowered. I managed after several attempts to get it to turn back on by pressing the buttons in a random order while it was off and the face was down. It powered on and still the face was down. I mashed the MODE button (which is now the Eject button) and managed to get the face back up. I decided to pull my Audio fuse in the car's fuse box once the face was up to stop it from totally freaking out. At this point i need to return the until and have it repaired or a replacement unit sent out. Other than this odd machine going haywire i have absolutely loved this unit. Best feature set, and usability of any in dash system i've ever used. Hopefully this ghost in the machine behavior is just a fluke and not something worse.

I've contacted Pioneer to return this until for repair or replacement. I'll keep you updated if anyone is interested in the outcome. Hopefully it won't take too long as i don't want to be without a radio in my car.

Does anyone have history with contacting Pioneer and getting a replacement issued or a repair? I emailed them as the phone number was always busy.

  4. I actually bought two of these:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002MW6HRO/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and two of these (amazing quality):

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A47AWBQ/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Then i ran the two USB extension cables through the center console of my SUV and mounted them inside the little glove box in there. Then i used the coiled lightening cables to connect to my 2 ipods/iphone and then mounted the iPods together using (fact to face since they are flat and produce no real heat) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000SZVAGA/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It holds two iPods perfectly. I can pull one out if i need to and the coiled cable stretches just fine. it doesn't take up a ton of space in my glove box when i put it back. It also helps if i need to connect my iPhone to USB1 to charge it. i can still use it just fine while in the drivers seat thanks to the coiled lightning cable.

  5. Hi guys, first post here.  Did a search and didn't find any answers.  Question has to do with map zoom while moving.  Has anyone figured this out?  Sometimes I want to avoid traffic and just want to confirm that a side street will take me where I want to go.  It would be great to be able to zoom out and hold at a specific distance.

Learning a lot from you guys.  Thanks!

This is all i know of that will stay held:

Nav -> Nav Menu -> Go > to Settings -> Navigation Map -> Map Display -> Viewpoint -> And you get Close, Normal and Far as your 3 options. These are the only "zoom" levels that stay once set.

  6. Also since we are talking about the speed warning alerts. Is there a setting to tailor the  unit to match your actual speed. Mine always shows me at 3-4mph over my actual speed. It's quite annoying.

None that i've seen. I'd love to have a calibration setting. Mine always shows me 2 mph slower than my normal speed. I got the same issue with my "outside temp" on my dash in my car. I'd love to be able to tweak that one as it's always 4 degrees off.

Make sure you have the car speed signal cable hooked up properly.

  7. Ok, this is really interesting, am looking at getting this unit and after reading some of these posts I am LOT more confused about the functionality than I thought I would have been and really don't know whether I should bother with the additional hdmi digital av cable connection or not.

    1) assume that just using the lightning cable to iphone 5s connection does not give you album art but does transfer the native library. Is that right?

    2) what is the difference between using bluetooth audio connection vs the lightning cable only for iphone5s? I had assumed both transfer the music library and work identically? Is the difference just audio quality?

    3) Does anyone think that id be missing out on core functionality if I didn't bother with the digital av adapter? I'm not able to install the unit myself so am not sure if I should get the full digital av set of cables installed now or not. Assume both USB connections are round the back of the unit?

    Any advice really appreciated.

    Cheers

    Mark

    1. I have album art, full library full everything with just USB1 -> iPod via 1 long USB extension cable and 1 lightning adapter. So you are wrong on that. You get full functionality.

    2. I'm not a huge fan of bluetooth since it drains the battery, sometimes acts randomly (like disconnecting etc..). If you use the USB it will charge your phone, less likely to have random disconnects (but not entirely so), and over BT you don't get album Art.

    3. I don't use my HDMI/AV cable, but i went ahead and ran a longer HDMI cable out of my head unit and into my armrest console (where i keep my iPods and my USB extension out of the head unit), so that i can add it later if Pioneers fixes some issues and/or i decide i want it. I installed my myself and i've taken it out of the dash at least 5 times now to screw around. But if i were you i'd go ahead and run the HDMI cable and have the installer run it. to where you keep your USB extension to connect to your iphone/ipod. That way if you wanted to later you can buy the AV cable and bingo you're in business.

  8. Really interesting what you guys are posting here, now I have a better picture of what NEX can or cannot do.

My question here is, let's say I want to use USB1 as a regular ipod (USB to lightning), but USB2 for appradio - or viceversa.  Will the unit let me do that? Or, by selecting appradio on one will automatically select that option on the other?

I'm not exactly sure. I thought USB1 had to be used for the AppRadio (via HDMI/AV cable). When i had mine setup originally i had my iPhone in USB1 with HDMI/AV cable and my iPod touch in the USB2 port and that worked just fine. So if you are OK with reversing that order, then yes, that will work. But if you need to keep it in the order you have then i can't answer that one for you, maybe someone else has this setup.

  9. I have some other posts about iPods forgetting their place.  I have an iPhone connected to usb 1 and an iPod classic connected to usb 2, smartphone setup to usb/iphone.  If I play pandora, then switch back to iPod mode (the phones iPod) it actually continues to play pandora and show that information on the screen outside of saying iPod on the top, after you reselect your music then is goes back to normal, this is a huge pita that is driving me nuts.  I called Pioneer and they say that this is normal but the lady really didn't sound very bright as I had to explain this about 20 times.  The other problem I have is the iPod classic will always loose it's place after an ignition cycle however someone else reported that they do not have this problem so maybe that ones just related to me.

My iPod touch on USB2 always remembers it's place. However its running the Audible app. I haven't tested it with Music. I'll do that tonight and see if it still works the same way.

  10. Ok some tried TTS volume at 25% while my music was at a comfortable level and the TTS was volume was plenty for me. As far as music pausing for driving instructions, no thanks my z2 did that and I hated it. I guess we all have our preferences but mine sure is not to interrupt the music for directions.

For Music i don't care. I'm with you. But when listening to an Audiobook and it mutes so she can give me the directions i'd prefer a pause/unpause. I'll just have to live with the mute i guess :)

  11. The Pandora thing is kind of a PITA as far as i'm concerned. I have 2 iPods connected to my head unit. 1 for music and 1 for Audible. And i have my iPhone 5 using BT for Siri (sending emails and texts) and for phone use (i don't want all my music on my smaller 32GB iPhone as it stores lot of apps, some basic music, pictures i take, etc... wouldn't be enough room for the music i want to have access to in the car). I don't use the AppRadio stuff nor anything else. My iPhone is not plugged in, in any way, to my head unit (8000nex).

    My idea was the following:

iPod1 (iPod touch 64GB all my music)

iPod2 (iPod touch 32GB with my audiobooks)

    iPhone via BT for Pandora

I originally had my smartphone setup as Other -> USB (when i initially tried to set it up as iPhone/iPod->AV or USB, etc.. it wouldn't do anything the way i wanted). However i couldn't do any Pandora or aha. However iPod1 and iPod 2 ALWAYS remembered the correct spot when i switched back and forth or after power cycles (leaving for work in the morning, or back home after work, etc...)Then i changed my smartphone back to iPhone/iPod -> USB. And Pandora and aha was now accessible. I was told that Pandora uses iPod1 and must be USB AND BT (Pandora uses the BT and the Music app uses USB)

I still have my Siri, both iPods work. The Pandora label is there.  I can click on the Pandora button and it launches Pandora on my ipod1. Now, if i'm at home or near a totally open wifi and my iPod1 connects to wifi Pandora will play. If i turn on Local Hotspot on my iPhone and connect my iPod1 to it, then Pandora will work no problems too. Awesome right? Wrong. Once "Pandora" is allowed it now decides that it is the DEFAULT action of my iPod1. So i get in the car, turn it to iPod1 (from SiriusXM) and it jumps to playing Pandora (not using the Pandora feature of the 8000nex), but it tells my ipod1 to start playing the Pandora app and it plays over USB. I then have to click on the categories button and choose a playlist for example. Listen to some ACDC as i jam to the store. Turn the car off, grab some gas or food or whatever and then get back in the car. Crank up the car and bam! it's back in Pandora Mode. Totally ignores that i was listening to the Music App and some play list.. I have to go back to the categories and choose the playlist again and start the song all over again.

So i have 2 options. Don't use Pandora at all (and possibly redo my smartphone setup to Other -> USB so it's not even an option - which worked amazingly well), or deal with the fact that it's gonna want to select Pandora and lose my playlist every time i choose iPod1. I'm hoping this is some kind of glitch and Pioneer will fix it. But i'm not holding my breath on that one. I would love to use Pandora, but i have plenty of music on my iPod so it's not a deal breaker. The only other thing i can think of is to grab my iPod1 after i do enjoy some Pandora and possibly kill the app on the iPod and hopefully when i switch back to iPod1 the 8000nex won't decided to try and start the Pandora app. Not really sure what's best here. Need to do some more testing tonight at home.

I always have the option i guess of connecting the iPhone to iPod1 via USB and using it that way, however i like to jump in my car and just drive. I don't want to have to always plug my phone in just to go down the street or to the gym, or even to work, simply to have some music. I could indeed put some music on my Audiobook iPod2 but i like the ability to switch between Music and my Audiobook i'm listening too, without having to pull out my iPod2 from the console and navigate around the thing choosing a different app and such when theoretically i can do this from the head unit by having 2 different iPods.

So even though they are trying to allow you to do some stuff from the head unit, you still have to be willing to grab the phone and change apps. Even in the traditional setup with 1 iPhone in USB 1 with USB setup in the smartphone setup, you could launch Pandora from the head unit, but if you wanted to go back to your music, you would then have to select USB1 on the head unit, then on the phone switch over to the Music App and choose a playlist and a new song (both of which is starting from scratch again). So even in the most basic of setups, it appears something isn't right in Kansas with the programing, and you can't just switch easily between music and Pandora. Maybe if you were ONLY a music person or ONLY a Pandora person this might be satisfactory. But heaven forbid if you actually enjoy both.

Anyone else out there have similar experiences or gotten something to work properly (completely properly) in the scenario i'm trying to setup?

  12. I have it set to Amy and my volume is at 40%. I had it at 24% before and while driving down the highway jamming (quite loudly i might add) to some FFDP, she tried to give me directions and i couldn't hear her at all (as the mute level wasn't muted enough). So i adjusted mine back up to 40%. I may re-evaluate my mute mode and see if that helps (maybe like completely muted vs just a lower db level). However i really do wish we had the option to pause the audio while giving instructions and then un-pausing afterword, but i don't see that happening, like ever.

  13. The main thing I do not like about the gps is that it does not tell you verbally what street to turn on, it instead tells you in so many feet to turn, Yes it does show you on the screen but it would be much better to tell you verbally imho.  I went for a nice ride over the weekend and it performed very well.

Have you tried using the TTS voice instead of the Amy voice in english? The TTS voice announces street names and the Amy one does not. It says it in the description under the names. Try changing the voices and see if that gets you what you want.

  14. Awesome find on the slider, I must have missed that.  As far as the iPod, this seems to be the disappointing normal workings of the unit.  If the smart phone setup is on anything other than iPhone & usb then neither usb port to work with an iPod...

I was about to let people know about the slider. That's just another neat feature i've found in this GPS unit. I have to say i'm thoroughly impressed with the 8000nex unit over the z150BH by a very large margin. I keep finding all these little details in the GPS system that make it so much better than most others i've had. And i had a recent top of the line Garmin. There were a few things in the Garmin that i miss in the 8000nex unit, but the list is getting shorter by the day that i use it as i find features in the 8000nex that can do the same job, or make the previous feature in the Garmin moot.

I just did a 8 hour round trip to Atlanta all in one day yesterday and used the GPS and i was blown away at just how good it was once i got everything tweaked. Setting the speed slighter was a find on the way back. I set mine for 115%. So at 70mph i can do 80mph before it alerts me (and i only use the visual alerts, turned the audio ones off). When i'm doing 40mph it lets me know at 46mph which in and around towns i'm fine with. It's not perfect, i would like to have an option % or exactly 10mph over, but i can live with one, as it's better than none.

As to the iPod thing, i have 2 iPod touches in mine. 1 for my music (the larger one) and one for Audible (a smaller one). I wanted to be able to easily switch in the head unit between the Audible app and the Music app without having to pull my iPod out ever little while or mess with my phone. So i bought another iPod. I installed them both in ipod1 and ipod2 ran extension cables to the middle console and installed the extension USB female unit there. Then got a couple of expandable lightning cables and mounted my iPods there.

(note i use the Audible app instead of just using the Music app to select my audiobook as i like to use whispersync and sync my audiobook and kindle ebook when i read - i realize i could do the same thing and just use the music app to play my audiobook and it would work well and i could control it from the head unit but i need it for other reasons that some readers might or might not have)

Because of my dual iPod setup i was pissed to see that if i set my smartphone as BT none of the iPods would work. That's really freaking retarded. But anyway. I kinda go around it. I set my smart phone as iPod. But plugged in my 2 iPod touches as iPod 1 and 2. Both work great. I can easily and quickly switch between Music and Audible from the head unit. And my Siri (using the middle button in the 8000nex) still uses my iPhone which i paired using BT, still receives incoming calls, still makes calls from. I can send emails and texts from my phone using the built in microphone and Siri part of the 8000nex (as i did so several times on my trip) and have 2 iPods connected. Now, once they add this AVICSYNC stuff with internet for traffic/weather/etc... i'm not sure how that will work. I might not be able to do that with 2 iPods connected. I may have to live without that or come up with another alternative. But for now it does everything i want it to.

I have really really been enjoying my 8000nex by a huge margin over my old z150bh. Some people complained that the GPS was basically "useless" and i find it to be completely untrue. I've used it around town several times, and on a relatively long trip and i have to say it's pretty awesome. There are some features i'd love to see:

-Pause instead of Mute on GPS voice over directions (for my books, don't care about music, but i'd like my books paused while it wants to tell me to turn ahead)

-Waypoints are a little odd. You get the "most popular" groups to show up, but to filter through all the other ones (like shopping for example) you have to click in the search dialog box, then they keyboard shows up and either search by word, or dismiss the keyboard and then behind the keyboard overlay are all the categories. If you could ADD to the most popular catalogs that show up, that would be nice, or if they just all showed up, but it seems a little bit irksome the way it is.

-Waypoints, when you are in navigation mode (and have a route programmed) the default option for finding a local place (restaurant, shopping, etc..) is Nearby Places, and it should be Along Route. If you don't have a route programmed then Nearby Places is fine. This was kind of a pain as on my trip i needed to pickup a pair of shoes, and i didn't see this Nearby Places and it added 30 minutes to my trip as it wanted to take me 12 miles BACK the way i was coming to a shoe store i pass 12 miles ago, then 12 more miles back to where i was so about 30 minutes a waste of my time. After realizing this i killed the waypoint (which it audibly calls "via point" for some strange reason) and redid the "shoes" entry and clicked on the Nearby Places and chose "Along Route", that found a shoe store like 2 minutes off my route, but it was like 30 minutes from where i was at, which was perfect, i had to wait a little bit longer, but it didn't take me out of the way. (not too many shoe outlet places along interstate without hitting up a wally world or something).

-The quick nearby place needs to allow you to see more than just one. The little icon when navigating that is next to the progress bar on the right hand side that looks like a car and 2 roads i think, when you click that you have the choice of gas, food and gas&food. That's an awesome feature that my garmin didn't have, just find me the closest food place or the nearest gas station. That's an awesome feature, but at the same time if you don't like the "Subway" it found 1 exit down and there are other choices on that exit, it doesn't show you. It would be nice if it listed all the restaurants within 1 mile of that first one it found and let you pick. So a nice option that could be even better.

-End of navigation popup. Once you reach your destination a popup should come up that quickly lets you cancel the route. You are there or you passed it (because it stopped you 100ft before the house number or something) it should just popup and say Cancel Route? Yes/No. instead of my having to click Option -> Cancel Route -> Delete Route. 3 buttons when it could be solved by a popup and 1 button.

Another freaking awesome thing that i discovered. I set a feature in the Nav options called Show Realtime Alternative Routes or some such. Then about 2 hours into my drive i decided i needed to hit McDonalds. I pulled off interstate and instead of saying Recalculating Route, it popped up a menu of places nearby (several gas stations and several fast food places) with a title called something like "Off Route Reason" or some such. I then clicked the McDonalds selection and it automatically added that as a waypoint and drove me there without bitching at me the entire time that i was off route, and annoying me with recalculating every fifteen seconds.

So like i said there are a few options that i'd like on this until to make it the perfect GPS, while technically it's right now the best one i've used and i've used Garmins (top of the line units) and TomToms (middle units) and the z150BH GPS thing.

Also i used the bypass mentioned at the front of this forum to bypass the parking break issue. I did all my GPS navigation and selections while driving down the highway by myself. And it worked perfectly. It did tell me 2 times this weekend (one on the trip and one the day before) that it detected an issue with my parking break, but i click OK and was still allowed to do anything i wanted without stopping, slowing down or administering the parking break.

  15.

And for the LOVE OF GOD, why cannot they have the speed sensing volume adjust. I mean my crappy kia OEM unit had that. It has the speed sensor wired for better GPS, it knows EXACTLY how fast i'm going cause it complains that i'm going over the speed limit (turned the voice part off but left the visual notification). One simple feature that was amazing!

Ok. Apparently this is ASL. I didn't remember seeing this in the z150. But the 8000nex has ASL. If only i could understand what the heck it means by my options Low-mid-high. I assume high does more adjustment, while low does less of an adjustment. Not sure, but i hope so. Gonna set mine to Medium and adjust from there.

  16. Terrible stuff:

You cannot set the zoom level on the map.  It defaults back to whatever zoom it had when hard power was last applied to the head unit (don't ask how I figure that out).  I've spent a few hours trying to get the map to hold a given zoom setting, simply can't find a way to do this.  Nav overall is bad on this unit, nothing at all like the current Garmin and Tomtoms, of which I own several.

Isn't this the setting zoom you might have been looking for:

Nav -> Nav Menu -> Go > to Settings -> Navigation Map -> Map Display -> Viewpoint -> And you get Close, Normal and Far as your 3 options. Granted it's not as many as others have, but it's more than reset. Mine stays on Close no matter my driving, sitting still or turning on/off the car, etc...

Dimmer mode is confusing as hell.....Also, the dimmer only adjusts the screen, not the LED lights on the buttons.  You can dim these separately, but then they stay dim in bright light.  These lights should also switch with day/night mode.

How do you dim the buttons? I'm ok with them being dim during daytime as i can see the buttons fine, but at night they are so much brighter than the rest of my console lights.

Parking brake override DOES NOT WORK.  Unlike the 4000NEX (without Nav), my unit figured out after about 5 miles that it was moving, even with a relay-installed parking brake bypass.  After this point, it simply wouldn't allow many functions to be accessed unless the speed was below some low point (around 5mph or so).

I believe this is fixed with the quadrant trick pinned in the forum.

I'm pretty impressed with this unit over my AVIC-Z150BH. I have the 8000. The capacitive touchscreen is super responsive, super bright, i can see just fine in bright sun, granted i have an SUV and not a convertible. Got my dimmer at +36. I love the fact i can turn the clock off if i want. I hated the clock on the z150. This has a much nicer clock, but you can turn it off (well except for the Nav screen, where i don't believe you can turn it off). The capacitive display does have issues (like many others that are glass) with finger prints. They are quite visible during the daytime. But man this screen and system are fast!

The only other thing that the z150 supposedly supported and i assumed this one did too, but neither seem to, is custom EQ per input. The z150 manu stated that it could associate a different EQ setting per input (siriusxm, hdradio, iPod, etc...) which is useful to me as i have an iPhone and iPod connected and i use my iPhone for music and i use my iPod for Audible. So i can easily switch between them w/o having to mess with my phone. I wish i could store a different EQ setting for iPod2 so i could have my voice EQ for books and a separate EQ for music w/o having to manually change the EQ each time i switch.

Also it acts like i can have more than one bluetooth device connected, but it doesn't let me add another. Weird.

  17. ...Map colors are atrocious and cannot be changed.  There's a setting to apply a "theme" to day and night mode, but only one choice is available on the menu (curiously labelled "dark").  As an example, for some reason most of my home town is overlaid with various flavors of grey and white "contour lines" for lack of a better word, except they're a solid fill.  Roads on this background are white....

I believe this option is under Nav -> Nav Menu -> Go > to Settings -> Navigation Map -> Map Display -> Color Mode (page 51 of the manual).

  18. My factory radio supported this and my z150bh is hooked up to the VSS cable (info screen shows speed pulse working great). However it doesn't seem to increase or decrease the volume as i get on/off the highway. I thought this unit supported this feature and i can't find anything in the options to modify this nor anything in the manual. Does it support this?
