  1. That would be correct. Also, beware that the scroll wheel on the classic is not as sensitive as previous models and does not always pickup on finger movements. Possibly could be fixed through firmware update, but if it's hardware, we're screwed. It's not just mine either. There's a thread of pissed off people on the Apple forums with the same issue. I also noticed lagging on the models in the store. It's not horrible, but if you have used previous models, it can be a bit frustrating. Apple seems like they're dropping the ball with the classic. One step forward, two steps back. The Coverflow fo
  2. I might just buy a PSP slim for movies, etc. I can get a new PSP slim with an 8GB Memstick for about $300. That provides web browser, youtube, MP4 video playback, and video output... Oh and I hear it plays those game things too, lol. The iPhone browser is 10x better than anything on the PSP tho.
  3. The Authentication chips are only available to Apple and are brand new, so there is zero chance that the D3 has it or will ever have it. Our only hope is that someone creates a hacked firmware for the D3 that makes it emulate an apple device or creates a hacked firmware for the iPod that enables video out. Apple can go shove it with their $50 composite cables. I still see no reason for these chips. All they did was piss off anyone that has bought their old AV cables for iPod or any other device that outputs video from an iPod.
  4. No, I have 4 days off a week, I study then. I go to school Tues-Thurs and I have 3-5 hours in between classes. I was so looking forward to watching the new season of the Office in my car amongst other shows/movies. I'm so pissed right now, my iPod video 5G 30gb hard drive died a few weeks ago. So I wait on buying a replacement due to new ones coming out, and this is what I get. On a positive note, browsing music on the D3 is now extremely fast. Instant really. I'm going to have to try and find someway to crack the firmware to allow video playback. I was thinking of trying the new iPod com

  7. I just cut the black and brown connectors off. The rest of the wires are all stardard ISO colors that match up to the AVIC harness. The only difference is that the ground wire is brown instead of black. Also, the purple wire is reverse and the Blue/Black striped wire is the VSS. Illumination is orange, yadda yadda. Here's a link to a PDF of the VW standard wiring harness: http://www.installdr.com/Harnesses/VW-Wiring.pdf Also, an extra tip, make note of the purple reverse wire that is in the black connector and put a piece of tape or something on it. That way once you cut the connectors o
  8. Get the Scosche dash kit, it fits perfect AND has the proper factory smooth texture, unlike the BestKits dash kit for the GTi which is rough. The Scosche dash kit can be found here at Sonix: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_8186_Scosche+VW2317B+-+VW2317.html Also the antenna adapter can be found here: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_4440_Scosche+VWA3+-+VWA3B.html And most importantly, the wiring harness. As you may or may not know, our VWs do NOT have a switched 12v ACC line in the stock harness, nor does it have the orange Illumination wire that dims the head unit when th
  9. Yup all of it myself. So far the bluetooth works great with my LG EnV from Verizon. It gives battery life, signal strength, and you can control the bluetooth audio since the EnV supports both protocols for audio. (AVCVR and A2DP) Although, the phonebook cards had to be sent one by one, but other than that it's been flawless. The XM rules so far as does the iPod interface. Also, the speed pulse given by the CARP adapter harness is dead on. The speedometer under vehicle diagnostics is neck and neck with the actual speed of the car. I have only driven it a little more than a mile so far and the t

  11. Ok, today is my install date for my 07 Jetta. Same interior and dash as your GTI. Do NOT get the metra dash kit. The kit will not fit properly. Look at this thread from VW Vortex: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3145877 Get the Scosche dash kit, it fits perfect AND has the proper factory smooth texture, unlike the BestKits dash kit for the GTi which is rough. 12. The midrange and tweet are wired to a crossover network in series. So the tweeter and woofer may each be 2ohm, but they are wired in series so it presents a 4ohm load to the head unit, which is what you want. You should be fine. When wiring speakers, putting two in parallel halves the ohms. When run in serial config (ala. a crossover), you double the ohms. http://www.the12volt.com/ohm/ohmslaw.asp
  13. Do you have factory component speakers (a woofer and tweeter) where each one is 2ohm? In that case, there is probably a crossover box where there is a 4ohm input from the amp. However, if you have coaxial speakers, where the tweeter and woofer are built in to each other, then you may need to replace them. Most, if not all, after market decks are designed to carry 4-8ohm loads.
