  1. Interesting that Pioneer pointed the IR straight down especially since just about every vehicle has carpeted floors. Maybe they were hoping people would wear leather chaps or tight latex pants thinking they would be more reflective. Sorry, I won’t go there again. Oh wait what about sequins. Sorry sorry. So has anyone tried sticking a mirror below it and aiming the beam towards the IR eye or just straight up? I know you won’t do this when driving; it would be interesting to see if it makes a difference. Basically seeing how good a “perfect†reflector works or “ideal conditionsâ€.

corlando52, try rotating your head (with the polarized glasses on). If the screen is solid black you will need to go about 90deg to see well. Polarized lenses and LCD don’t play nicely but they do make tinting, glass tempering and may other things a trip. :P

Thanks for the well written reviews inferno999. They really add to the knowledge base around here.

  2. I would just like to inform everyone about an eBay purchase I made from a seller by the name of player4ever1987 on January 07, 2008, I was the winning bidder of $793.00 and it has now been, I have yet to recieve my item, and have opened a claim with eBay as well as paypal, anyone else have a bad expierence?

Wow that sucks. But I don't think I would have gone with someone with that seller name. He sounds like a 20 year old who thinks he is a lot cooler then he really is. Hope you get your $ back.

  3. I am not sure about the details, which I am sure vary place to place, but a certified mechanic has several powers. For example if you don’t pay for the work done they can have a lean put on the vehicle. Check it out. It would not surprise me if they could prevent you from legally driving the car too. I bet this is especially true in places that have required safety inspections in addition to emissions testing. Actually it makes since. If a mechanic let you drive away with anything messed up that later caused a problem, like a stall on a major highway which lead to pile up, the mechanic could be held liable for not stopping you.

Anyways this looks like a case of two stupid people getting together. The owner never should have had them do the work and CC should have not tried to do the work.

  4. I have seen the question asked and answered several times. The answer always is No Hardware changes. But I am wondering if this is coming from a technical perspective or an end user perspective. In other words, is this answer based on users seeing zero differences in hardware functionality and performance? Or, has some one actually checked specific hardware specs and model numbers of hardware components?

I guess this could be done by checking the replacement parts between the two systems. But not necessarily, there may be intercompatibility between the two if there are hardware differences. I.e. if a system component was upgraded for a fix.

  5. ... can't wait for that new pio- nav that works off of telepathic wavelenghts. all you got to do is think about where you are going or the music you want to play. ...

Ya, that would be great but it wont last long. If it is beyond the general publics ability to use, it fades off. That nav system would require the user to be able to think which is WAY beyond most people’s ability.

  6. I would recommend asking this on a Lincoln forum because this is closer to a OEM interior parts question.

    http://www.lincolnforums.com/forums/ind ... owforum=49

What is the units model #? If it is a basically a AVIC with special software for Lincoln there may be some stuff for you. Our Legacy has an OEM navi by Kenwood in it. On the Subaru forums people were adding parts that were made for the aftermarket system and it worked. The OEM system was a standard kenwood aftermarket unit with Subaru specific software on it.

  7. ... I don't know about handhelds, as I had a horribly bad exsperience with a Magellan Marine handheld, and swore off handhelds...I used fishing weights to sink mine ot the bottom of the lake...

:lol: Did you actually do that! What a great way to kill a bad system! Except for the littering but still funny!

I don't know about everyone else but I don't mind people listing and complaining about problems. It is helpful, especially for new buyers. But ranting and flaming is annoying and often gets you ignored by the people who can help. Listing a clear description of the problems and looking for resolution is helpful. Going off about you have been swindled by an inferior system is not.

The posts on this page (pg 3) were much better and clearer. This is the way to help us understand your problem. I am interested in finding some example now too. Sorry I didn’t mean to lecture it is just a shame the people get frustrated and start a fight and the problem never goes any where. And that is what turns these forums to $h!t.

  8. Yes I did, all I meant was you could get a simpler system like the one in my wifes legacy. I think it is a Kenwood but I am not sure of that. Nice navigation and navigation features with no A/V features. I think it is a great set up for her because she is not interested in a A/V system in her car and the navigation in LA and New Mexico is great!

I Bus pin-out diagram would be great, do you remember the thread? I have not seen that here but then again I have been away for a few months.

  9. I don't know a whole lot about writing code or anything, but I do know that the old stand-alone Pioneers(AVIC9/90/80) were NavTeq. Now you can buy the new TeleAtlas software and stick it in those models and it works fine, so I don't think there is a conflict between using teleatles or navteq as long as Pioneer is doing it. ...

Wow, very interesting. Well maybe I am wrong. Having a standard for "map" data / databases would be very cool. You then could do a cross referencing system for locations and routes and other neat things. Hmm....

Actually whtcrxghst you seem quite knowledgeable about these systems. I was wondering how much know about the AVICs internals. Specifically the IO for it's add on systems (DVD changer, Sat Radio, etc.). If your or others knowledge is as extensive as I hope I can start a new thread for my questions.

  10. ... I paid over $2000 for navigation and the only other feature that caught my eye was the voice control for hands free operation. ...

Why did you buy a Z1 if you weren't interested in the media features! Basic rule, buy the unit with the features that you want/need. Don't get the printer with a built in fax and copier if you have no interested in a fax and copier. They are just extra features that can have problems and put a halt to your printing.

It's up to Pioneer how they lay down the law to TeleAtlas and bring about that much needed catch-up, or alternatively cancel their contract for non-performance and move on to someone who can keep up with the times.

I don't know or understand the code that is in the navigation systems but I would assume that changing to another navigation company is easer said then done. I would guess that the different companies data structures are different, at least enough that changing to a new set up would create major setbacks. They have a lot of time and money invested in this navigation software and rewriting the algorithm is not easy and you don't want a kludged fix either. Not to say that they should let TeleAtlas walk all over them but abandoning a setup could be bad too.

Also I found it kinda funny we all are talking about "needing" navigation and routing when it was only a few years ago that all of the routing was done in your head on a paper map. A computer even pointing to the destination on the map was great. I am not trying to bash you hard earned $$$ you spent on a system but trying to remind us that these are really luxuries in our cars not necessities. Its kinda like how people feel lost and useless with out their cell phones. Or that it can be unsafe to be in a populated area when there is a power outage, because people go crazy!

Yes, I have had routing problems before too and I just looked at the destination on the map and followed the road that took me there. Sorry for the rant.

  11. ... i wonder if thers any other icons that are cool! like a dancing lady for a strip club ...

    LOL

... is there a reason that there is a bunch of swastikas on the screen?

There are lots of NAZI's in Japan ...

    LOL

Wow funny stuff. Those icons are kinda cool but I see where they could get annoying at times.

And here is another question why do Japanese electronics have English writing on it, like the "P. List" button? But then in other places, like on the maps, they are using the symbols. :?:
