jnye6625
I have a 2007 F-150 and it came with the factory Sirius radio. Does anyone have any input as to whether or not it would be possible to use the stock sirius antenna that is currently on the roof of my truck as the GPS antenna for my avic-z2? It would be very nice if this was possible since it is already up there and since I already took the old receiver out of the truck. Thanks!
MisFit
no, you cannot use it for gps. you can use it with the pioneer sirius if you add it. you just need to remove the plastic case from the antenna end first. let me know if you want to sell the factory receiver
jnye6625
I might be interested in selling the old receiver. Let me think about it for a day or two. Just out of curiousity, what is the difference between a gps antenna and a sirius satellite antenna other than the ends looking slightly different?
millsp
the Sirius antenna has the ability to receive Terrestrial signals as well as satellite signal. The GPS antenna only receives satellite signals.
jnye6625
So does that mean that the terrestrial signals would interfere with the GPS signals and not give a clear reading?
millsp
no. The terrestrial signals are of a different frequency than the sat signals. No interference to each other. That doesn't mean there aren't other things out there that will cause interference. but seldom will you experience it.
