I just installed my D3 in a Hyundai Sonata (NOT a diesel) and have been having much the same issue from time to time when I use the remote start. I like the idea of the cap b/c it's automatic but the switch is cheaper and works every time. A member in a different forum suggested I simply turn the AVIC off before switching the ignition off. Never occurred to me (I'm an engineer.) OK unless you have Senior Memory. I'm still installing the switch. BTW, mine's bypassed, too. File under "Duhh!" I thought my D3 became invisible again this morning. My remote start turns on the parking lights until you press the brake. The display was dim until I applied the brake then it undimmed.
