Avic-D2 Screen doesn't turn on, no buttons work, turns on internally

I have a pioneer avic-D2 I got in from a friend that isn't working
Wiring harness isn't the issue, I have a D1 that I tested the same harness with and it turns on and works fine (besides the touchscreen issues that these are plagued with, going to try the heat gun method on the digitizer)
D2 when hooked up to power makes some noises internally (I suspect there is a navigation disc spinning)
Screen does not turn on though, no buttons on face work either, eject and reset button included
I think possibly the ribbon cable may be an issue, anyone have any suggestions before I open it up or should I just go for it?
