kaplan_reject
well, I dont know about a big mistake, but I would say that you have one hell of an uphill battle to get it to work right.... If it was me I'd return it and get the one sold in my area, unless the price difference was that dramatic as to warrant the trouble
weebeast
It was much cheaper in the US
HiFiSi
Sorry to say it, dude... but European disks do not work in the US AVIC-D3 units... Should have researched it first. Buying/downloading European disks won't do a thing for you. The bypass things being sold on ebay are a ripoff. You don't need anything more than what comes in the box with the unit to bypass it. And there is no way to make the unit region free. Sorry to rain on your parade...
kaplan_reject
Well.... Id do a bit more digging before shipping it back over the pond. Maybe someone has figured out how to work around it... but I sure dont... Sorry I couldnt help more.
weebeast
I thought there is region free hack or something. What will happen if i burn region free map disks? http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic. ... hlight=dvi Like this guy
HiFiSi
The problem is that it's more than just the DVD being for the wrong region that makes it not work. I'm not going to get into it, because it's quite complicated... but there are a few topics on the board where people made pretty exhausting attempts to get it to work with no payout. I'm not saying it's 100% not possible to make the EU disk work in the US unit... but if it is possible, you've got a LONG road ahead of you.
kaplan_reject
I would try, if the disks wont work in the unit it should just give an error, all you would be out of are the discks you burnt
weebeast
I will try it out then
weebeast
I think the easiest way to run europe maps is to make the avic d3 region free.Anybody knows what brand Cd/Dvd player they are using?
kaplan_reject
I think that route has been tried before, somewhere floating around here is a post on changing the dvd region and I believe it was said that the D3 uses a dvd player made by Pioneer itself. weebeast
Try to create dvd disk with European maps using normal program (Nero, ConvertX) and don’t burn disk only keep in folder. Then use 'shrink dvd',to recode this 'new disk' and mark only region 1. Program will automatically burn disk only to marked region. edit And when creating new disk set DVD format to NTSC not PAL Coz PAL format ccould be set automatically on your system. will this work? kaplan_reject
Honestly I have no clue if it will work, but what could you lose, a couple of bucks worths of dvds, I would give it a try if your dead set on keeping the D3.
