Upgraded from D1 to D3

Recommended Posts

I finally decided to upgrade my D1 to the D3. After installing I found myself wondeering if I made a mistake as there are a few things about the D1 that I miss.

1. The D1 looked alot more stock in my 2006 Chevrolet Silverado, and the motorized screen seemed alot bigger, even though its only .4 inches.

2. I miss the auto dimmer feature on the D1, on the D3 the dimmer is either on or off. On the D1 it adjusted itself to the surrounding light.

3. I still listen to cd's even though i have an ipod, sometimes its just easier to throw a few songs on a cd for me than it is to put them on the ipod, so the one disc drive is kinda a problem. I have the ipod cable ordered though and should be here within a day or two.

4. The D1 mounted perfect in my silverado, the D3 no quite as good and comes with a really cheap mounting ring, that does not completly surround the D3, Im gonna have to find something else.

Now for the good. I have done the bypass on the D3 as I did for the D1.

I like the DVD playback, and am anxious to see the ipod interface. I am also happy with the overall layout of the screen on the D3.

I still have the D1 and am thinking of buying the new NAV discs and putting it back in.

Please tell me your thoughts. Especially if you have replaced your D1 or D2 with the D3.

I haven't tried the ipod interface on the D1, but from what I have heard, the D1 ipod interface is slow. I have the D3, and though there are some quirks, it's fairly fast and responsive. If the ipod interface is your deciding factor in keeping the D3 or not, I think you're going to keep the D3.
