jhoglesr Posted August 12, 2006 Report Share Posted August 12, 2006 The D1 has older maps.Pioneer wants $250 to purchase the upgrade maps that are standard with the D2.You may be able to get copies for less off the internet.Besides the roads being updated the newer maps also give more detail.Old maps say "In 1/4 mile turn right onto I 279".New maps add direction by saying "In 1/4 mile turn right onto I 279 SOUTH" Same for state and US roads.For some reason it doesn't always give the name of the major RD.It might give the exit number or just say turn right in 1/4 mile.D2 has improved graphics for XM radio that doesn't come with the D1 even if you update the maps.Of course neither unit says the name of secondary roads only the Z1 does that.I wouldn't be happy with old maps.But either one will get you where you want to go most of the time and the new maps are not perfect.
