dericn
One minor complaint about MP3 playback... I never have time to listen to O&A live on XM, so I download their shows as MP3s to listen on my own schedule. The MP3s are long (>4 hours), so I listen to them in the car (via SD card) AND at home. Let's say I listen to an hour of the show at home. When I get in my car, I need to fast-forward an hour to get to the same spot. The problem is that the F700 only has one FFWD speed.... S-L-O-W. It's maybe 2-3X normal playback speed, which means I would have to hold the FFWD button 20 to 30 MINUTES to move an hour into the track... My attempt at a solution was to split the MP3 into 1 minute 'chunks', so I could simply select the minute (track) I wanted to jump to. When played with Winamp on my PC, it moves seamlessly from track to track, but on the AVIC, it pauses slightly each time it switches to the next track. This makes it basically unlistenable... I tried the same procedure, recording them to a CD instead of the SD card. Same problem, but with slightly less pause between tracks. Still unlistenable though. I also tried the un-split track to see if FFWD was any quicker. It is, but still quite slow. Also, when you hold down the FFWD button for a while, it 'sticks', causing it to FFWD forever. Touching other keys doesn't un-stick it. The only way to abort is to push the physical MENU button. This only happens with the SD card. No sticking with a CD-ROM. I have not yet tried it with a thumb drive, but I would expect the same results. I would really like to see the FFWD function advance in increasing speeds when the button is held down longer. Or maybe a 'progress bar' for the track that you can simply touch a new position. I realize that this is only an issue for us that like to listen to longer tracks, but I just wanted to voice my opinion in hopes that Pioneer might implement this in a future firmware revision. -Eric P.S. When using the ipod interface, is there also only one FFWD speed? I don't own an ipod, but would definitely get one if it solves my dilemma.
lemonhead
Maybe make into 20 minute chunks instead of 1 minute, might be listenable that way. Also, Howard>O&A.
skicrave
Or use iTunes and an iPod? It will remember where you left off and start in the same place regardless of the device. I know some people hate that Apple trap, but there are some good things about how their products work together.
dericn
Or use iTunes and an iPod? It will remember where you left off and start in the same place regardless of the device. The AVIC does remember which TRACK it left off at, just not where WITHIN that track it was playing. Therefore, it starts at the BEGINNING of the track it was playing. Fine for songs, but useless for long audio tracks like I play. -Eric Also, Howard>O&A. LOL...

dericn
Are you talking about when playing something back on an iPod? I don't own an ipod, so no to your question. I have only tried it on an SD card and CD. If it works properly on an ipod, I'll buy one. -Eric
dericn
Oops... I was mistaken. On the CD, it DOES remember where it was within the track. On the SD card, it does not. -Eric
