Very weak am/fm reception after F700BT install

Recommended Posts

I live 50 miles north of San Francisco and I can barely receive any of the am stations that should be loud and clear. I Double checked antenna connection. I have Sirius connected and that is fine. Unit is installed in 08 Toyota Yaris. Any ideas before I open up the dash again? Thanks!

More than likely your cars come with an amplified antenna. So you need to install an adapter so you can connect the power antenna lead to your antenna wire

Yep you're right! I did'nt hook up the blue wires (duh). All is well now. I hope this helps roadking1733. Thanks!

I am having the same issue in my 07 Siverado.

What do you connect the blue wire to?

There is a blue wire on the AVIC harness labled "power antenna" and blue wire on harness adapter for my car model (Toyota) marked the same. Just connect them and you should be good to go if you have an amplified antenna. I assumed "power antenna" refered to an antenna that raises and lowers when turning the power on or off so I ignored the connection (my bad). Hope that helps.

2008 Silverado with great FM and very poor AM reception. Does the antenna wire apply here?

My guess is yes. FM is higher frequency than AM and may more easily pass through an amplified antenna that is not powered up (you know how when in a steel or concrete building FM reception is fine and AM sucks or is totally gone). I am not an electronics tech but I was a radar tech in the navy and I did learn a little about freq wave forms. For what it's worth.
