kpob46
hey guys, i have my old ps2 slim that i figure would be pretty neat to have hooked up to my 900bt, so what would be the best way to do this? and would this be too hard on the battery/vehicle if i had my ps2, 900bt and sirius radio all running? HiFiSi
None of those things use up all that much power, I wouldn't worry about it's effect on your battery. As for how to hook it up, you would connect the PS2's AV outputs to the Radio's AV inputs. Piece of cake, they're both just red/white/yellow RCA connectors, so you just hook them up. And for power, the PS2 slim uses an 8.5 volt input, so you will not be able to wire it directly to the car's electrical system. You will need a PS2 slim car power adapter like this one. If you don't want to have the thing plugged into your cigarette lighter, you can cut the cigarette lighter plug off the end of the wire and splice those wires right into the car's power wires. You would want to use an ACC/ignition switched power source, though, so it doesn't stay on while the car is turned off.
kpob46
ah okay right on, i didnt even know they had a ps2 slim car adaptor. also about splicing the cord, would it work to just splice it onto the existing lighter plug and still have the lighter work? cause i still have my sirius that id like to use
HiFiSi
That would depend on whether the lighter outlet is on or off when the car is off. Some cars have constant power going to the lighter if you want to use it while the car is off. You don't want the PS2 to be powered up (even in standby) while the car is off. But again, you could just wire in a toggle switch on the power wire to the PS2 so you could turn on the power to it only when you want to actually use it. You could also buy an add-a-fuse to make a dedicated circuit for the PS2 as well and the sirius receiver.
