CD-VC1 Voice Control Installation

Recommended Posts

I just ordered one of these from circuitcity.com and am going to pick it up in store tomorrow. How does it connect? Does it connect to the N3's brain, or does it connect directly to the head unit? I don't know if I have a small set of screwdrives around the house anymore to take the HU out again! :)
Anyone have pics of the connection where it plugs into?

Thanks!
Ant

The cd-vc1 has a microphone and a remote with it. You mount the mic somewhere with the clip they supply you and run the wire behind the deck. It plugs into the harness with the rca's and stuff and should be labeled "Voice recognition mic" or something like that. You put the remote on the steering wheel so you can push the voice button and then speak your command.

I hate to say it, but you'll probably use the mic once or twice and never again. I got the mic/remote kit and installed it when i bought my N1.

I've literaly used the mic 3 times and decided it's more work trying to get the unit to recognize what the hell you're saying than to just press the buttons yourself.

As for the remote...just because of the way my dash and steering wheel are located, I can't mount the remote on the steering wheel and still be within enough distance for the headunit to register the button presses.

And yes, it connects to the head unit and not the brain.

The only reason i bought this kit was for the remote. I wish I would've bought the credit card style remote instead.

I had to do some travelling today, and found a car stereo place about 60 miles away that had this unit for $40 ($10 cheaper than CC). it was sealed but didnt have the mount that holds the remote or the rubber straps! Anyone with a lost or missing remote have a set they are willing to part with?
