mrBlue
Hello: Is it normal for the Hide-Away Unit to make a whirring noise like there's a motor inside. I'm suspecting there is a fan or hard disk inside since the noise is just like that of a noisy hard drive. Anyone else notice this? Is it a problem? Please help! I don't want to install a defective unit and then have to tear it out and ship it off for repairs. Thanks

It will make whirling noise because of the fan, small fans are quite noisy like the ones that sit on top of graphic cards in computers. I just sat mine behind the actual N2 unit in my truck, really didn't take more than 5-10 minutes to get it out. If it were me I'd rather install it then waiting for 2 weeks to have someone look at it. If you do install it make sure to keep the fan opening clear, don't push it up against anything or it will overheat and potentially destroy it.
thatswhatshesaid
I checked my N2 hide-away unit and it does emit a whiny pitch to it, but it isn't overly loud. I can hear it if it's like a foot or two away from my ear.
mrBlue
Thanks for checking. My N1 hideaway unit is louder than a whine, it's more like a grinding sound. I think I'll send it in, but I'm tempted to open the case for a look. Thanks again.
