zombiefreak
You guys might wanna spend some time over at the Hydrogen Audio forums If I'm making an MP3, I'll use LAME. It's the defacto standard for making hifi mp3's. Here's a couple posts to get you started http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=Hydrogenaudio_Listening_Tests http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=LAME http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=EAC_and_Lame Now, MP3s are lossy by definition. If you want to keep the full quality of the original, I'd recommend using Apple Lossless (m4a) and loading them onto an iPod. The iPod handles the processing and streams the audio to the headunit. I haven't tried putting them onto a hard drive and letting the hu read them. I have a lot of high resolution (24 bit / 96 kHz ) music, as opposed to the normal red book 16 bit / 44.1 kHz of a cd, and they sound immaculate as m4a off an iPod with little equalization. spestis
After further testing this is what I found. I took the same song ripped from the original CD to an MP3 and tested all the inputs. Original CD - Obviously excellent quality and volume MP3 on a data CD - excellent quality and volume MP3 on SD – lower quality and volume compared to original MP3 on USB - lower quality and volume compared to original I had another person swap from the original CD and MP3 CD without me knowing which was which and I could not tell the difference. This shows that the AVIC has the ability to play MP3s very well. I just don’t understand why they seem lower when played through SD or USB.
