knicks0819
haha yea seriously.. anyway so i installed it and just wanted to give my opinion of it for anyone else who's considering buying it... basically exactly as jay said.. it just really depends on how much you're willing to spend.. $250 (internet) is definitely a lot for it so it depends on what you're looking for.. it's not going to come in like hdtv obviously, and it depends where you're using it.. around my house (central NJ), i get about 5-7 channels that are at least barely watchable (about only 1-2 of which are decent quality).. the sound is actually great with very little, if any, static on almost every channel... when i drove around to other bigger cities.. there were a few channels that actually came in crystal clear as if i were watching cable and at one point i had about 6-7 channels that were very watchable.. i also agree with jay in that if i had to do it over again, i would definitely buy it.. its a great feature to have in the car for when you're bored (like waiting for someone) or just to show to friends or whatever.. let me know if anyone has specific questions on the tuner and ill try to help you out
sl1234
I just bought the 5700 from the local 6Ave store for $246 + tax. Reading through the installation manual, I noticed it requires the "green wire" connection to the brakes. Can I just permanently ground that wire or do I need to put it on a switch? I am connecting it to the Z1 with no rear monitor.

sl1234
I have the Ducatiboy bypass flasher installed on the Z1 and didn't connect the green wire to anything. I was referring to the green wire connection on the 5700 tuner.
knicks0819
yea i was talking about that green wire also.. i might be wrong (anyone feel free to correct me on this).. but it should work fine with not having the green wire on 5700 connected.. mine isn't connected and the tv tuner is working perfectly fine
sl1234
I'll try it without connecting the green wire. Thanks.
PaisanNYC
Hi little boy, I will be in Tampa and Orlando starting this saturday. How's about leaving FLL and come meet me up there? I really really really do want to get smacked. But I know you are just another loser who talks alot of trash on a computer. Enjoy your pitiful life. I have to go back to helping members on here who are actually nice. Anyways, knicks, you never did say where in NY you were from. My experiences were for basically Queens, Long Island, and occasionally the Bronx. Never tried it in Brooklyn, Staten Island, or Manhattan.
sl1234
I just installed the 5700 and find it ok to watch. The stations that I pull in are from NY City (~35 miles away) but I can't get CBS and NBC stations. The other channels come in sometimes clear and sometime fuzzy while driving. I bought the 5700 knowing the reception can be fuzzy at times. Did anyone consider getting new diversity antennas with an amplifier? You can get them on ebay. jay0heavenly
to get the best reception you have to do the bssm every now and then. Just touch the screen and you will see the icon. Tap it and the screen will prompt you to hold it for two seconds and then it will do a search for the strongest signal. I do one everytime I want to watch tv in a different area and it automatically improves the reception. The 5700 comes with 4 antennas so we shouldnt need any other signal boosters, but if you get it let us know how it works. Also, post a reply to let me know how your reception improves after you do the bssm.
sl1234
From what I read in the Z1 manual, the BSSM is used to store the strongest 12 stations. I also read somewhere that the 5700 will automaticaly switch to the diversity antenna that provides the strongest signal. Based on this information, I didn't think of setting the BSSM frequently to force the unit to select an antenna sorce, but I will give it a try.
sl1234
I tried the BSSM setting and it does not improve reception. I tried to move the diversity antennas around and it helps. But as soon as I start driving it drifts which is what I expected. That indicates that the signal is weak to begin with. So I may try to use an antenna with a preamplifier. In the installation manual, it mentioned about using pioneer's AN-G3 amplied antenna if the signal is weak. Here is similar product for much less. jay0heavenly
Man, sorry I couldnt help you out. But honestly I dont think that it is possible to maintain a strong signal while driving all the time. Some areas will be good, others not. But definitely let us know what the antenna kit is like, including the install and the improvement, cuz if it helps a lot, I'll grab one too.
PaisanNYC
if you are looking to buy an amplified antenna, try this one: http://www.mp3playerstore.com/stuff_you ... /ANT-2.htm I havent used it, but I have bought from this retailer before and I highly recommend them. They are legit, they show you the installation diagram on their site before you buy, and its cheaper! LOL Let us know if you do this and the outcome :) Good luck! sl1234
I will post the results when I get the new amplified diversity antennas. I am not expecting clear pictures all the time but to reduce the annoying channel drifting in and out would be nice.
sl1234
I finally received and installed the Pyle PLVWAN6 Powered Diversity TV Antenna to the 5700tv tuner. It does help in receiving weak signals, but the picture still flickers while (hypothetically) driving and much less than with the antennas that came with the unit. Standing still the pictures come in clearer and I can pick up one more NY channel (FOX). I think the flickering will always be there when moving and I am willing to put up with it. So the powered diversity antenna seems to be ok for me.
