ross
I just installed an AVH-4000 in my 2003 silverado last night. I used the Metra gmos-4 harness to retain my chimes and Bose amplifier but I don't have onstar. I used the 5 pin relay trick to bypass the parking brake for video and that all worked fine also. It was working fine this am while driving to work when I touched the screen and the mute symbol came up and cut all sound. Now I can't get the system to get off mute. I've turned the car on/off and even reset it. The only thing I can think of is that I did hook up the mute wire from the metra harness even though it said that was for onstar vehicles....but I'm not sure why that would all of a sudden cause the system to mute. Any help would be greatly appreciated. -Ross Mods - feel free to move this - I wasn't sure where to list the AVH series...
skicrave
Disconnect the mute wire in the harness and cap it so that it can be grounded.
ross
Thanks - I think it fixed the mute issue. Next question - my rear speakers aren't working... I've got all 4 rca's plugged in - do i need to wire around the rears? Thanks for the quick help -Ross
skicrave
You've got all four RCAs plugged in, but then what? Are they going to a four channel amp, to the factory amp? How is the wiring from the amp to the speakers done?
ross
It has the factory Bose system and I'm using the Metra GMOS-04 adapter. There are only 4 rca's coming off the harness...no normal speaker wires to wire to the hu... Sorry for being vague
skicrave
No worries, thanks for the clarification. It's tough to say without actually being there, but if I had to guess, I would say something is connected or configured wrong with your adapter. Give Metra tech support a call, or do a search online, I'm sure it's been covered somewhere else, and if everything is hooked up correctly, you can't be the only one experiencing that problem. BADIC
This is how I fixed my P3100 that was stuck on mute. I turned off the unit by holding the source button. Tapped the screen and "AV Menu" appeared in the top right of the screen. Tap it then go to the first choice which should be "Initial Menu" you will see "TEL" then off to the right of it it should say "Mute" Change "Mute" to "OFF" and your issue should be fixed. I think mine had to do with a conflict with the steering wheel controls adapter. Its the only logical explanation I could come up with. I assume this would work for any of the AVH models. Post up if this helped you at all.
