Task514
Can I plug my steering remote control to this wire? How does this wire read the inputs? Anyone know?
skicrave
Yes you can connect it to steering wheel controls, if you have the correct adapter from the aftermarket interface manufacturer of your choice (usually PAC).
dawgbone
I was always curious as to how exactly, the PAC adapters work.... You can have like 8 buttons on the steering wheel, yet you only tap into one single wire coming from the steering wheel.... This may not be the case for every vehicle... but on my Chevy truck I had six buttons configured, and only had to tap into one wire... I'm no electronics technician, but if I had to guess, the buttons are really just resistors...each button drops the current to different levels, in which the radio can understand... skicrave
Most older systems are resistance based, each button push changes the resistance on that one control wire by a certain measurable amount. Newer vehicles almost all use CAN Bus for steering wheel controls, so the button pushes are interpreted by the control module which sends a signal out on the Bus that is received by the appropriate device. Task514
my steering control uses 3 different resistence for each button... 3 buttons short, 300ohm, 900ohms... or something like that... But what does the Avic listens for?!
