Wrathernaut
Small car battery would still be horrible to lug, as well as the whole full of acid thing. My vote is still for a small 12v battery & charger, with quick connects tapped in to the radio constant 12v and ground wires. Something like this: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templ ... estid=5770 would do the job for $30 (batt + charger)

ewickj
you can get a motocycle battery that is 12 volt and they are very small i have seen some that are less then five pounds another idea i just thought of instead of taking the unit inside your house you could find a place inside your car that no one would think to look and you could just wire a plug to a long cable then plug it in and move the unit to your hiding place for exaple you could hide it under your back seat and just wire in about a 8 foot wire harness such as what you would use for a trailor plug under your back seat when you are ready to get out of your car pull the radio out of the dash plug the back seat wire in unplug from dash then move the unit under then back seat it will still be connected to the car batt so you wont lose your presets and you wont have to remove the unit from your car
DJDisturbed
or you can do like i did and take some airplane cable and attach that to the back of the unit, then attach that to metal parts in the dash. that way even if they try to take out the radio, they can take it far, it takes more then just wire cutters to cut through decent airplane cable (i even got nylon coated cable to protect from shorts if it were to come in contact with a wire it should not, got it from home depot, spent like $10 for it and the fasteners)
