Upgrading from AVIC N-1 to F90 - How to install

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

First of all, just want to say that this forum is amazing. The wealth of resources and knowledge is incredible! Thank you all very much for contributing. I hope that I can return the favor one day.

Now onto my own question :) I currently own an AVIC N-1. I've purchased the AVIC-F90BT which I plan on installing myself (N1 was also installed on my own). I am wondering if I need to rewire the harnesses or if I can simply unplug the harness from the N1 and plug it into the F90 since they are both Pioneer units. Other than performing the hardware bypass switch of the mute wire, do I need to do a detailed analysis to make sure all wires match up or can I assume that Pioneer uses identical harnesses for each model? Any thoughts and/or comments would be much appreciated!

Thank you very much!

I just looked at the installation manuals for both. all of the colors match up. Is the problem that the actual plug itself is different? or is it the order of the wires within the plug?

Just trying to pin down what the difference is :)

So. It turns out that the harnesses are different. The f90 harness is a little bit larger since it contains more inputs (the n1 had a hideaway brain which took the camera, rear signal, and speed signal inputs. So anyone updgrading beware you will have to do some soldering :)

the unit is awesome so far besides the fact that I get no sound out of my iPod :( I need to do some reasearch for possible causes on the forum.
