Some really basic questions about backup cameras

Recommended Posts

Sorry if this has been posted already - did a search but didn't find what I was looking for...

I have a D3 and am thinking I want the camera. I did read that just about any camera will work (the Boyo VTL400 seems to be the popular choice) as long as the reverse wire is connected. So, how does it all actually work, e.g. I'm on the map or iPod screen and put the truck in reverse... does this automatically trigger the camera or just enable it? Do I still have to go to the camera mode (manually) on the D3?

Also, is it possible to have the best of both worlds... or modes - Can I have the camera come on automatically with reverse AND have it enabled when not in reverse - this could be useful (or at least fun/cool) off road.

Thanks... and again - sorry for what has to be repeat questions.

-Mark

When you put the car in reverse (if you have it wired correctly), the AVIC will automatically switch to show you the camera feed. You don't have to do anything manually...

It's also possible to switch to the camera feed whenever you feel like it, by choosing the Camera option from the Nav Display modes...and you're right: it is fun to do this sometimes. :D

I have the Boyo VTL-300 and have no complaints.
