dbnichols
The fit, and color, are absolutely perfect. Be warned though, that installing the double din cage will take a bit more work than the EuroMotorspeed deal. I wrote about it, in detail here: http://www.planetporsche.net/997-electr ... 997-a.html Have fun! -B- That installation does sound a bit icky. If you look at the kit on the manufacturers homepage it does looks like there's some hardware included for mounting the cage. Didn't you get those parts or were they just not good enough? http://www.connects2.co.uk/c2prodpic.as ... 23PO03.jpg No, you get everything pictured for sure. The two copper colored bits, and the other two pieces above them with the 8 holes, are what mount onto the sides of the AVIC. This slides into the 2din cage, and locks in place perfectly. The two skinny pieces between the pieces are used to "unlock" the HU from the cage to pull the unit back out. They basically depress the tabs on the copper colored pieces. The two black pieces are foam, and I didn't use those. The problem with the installation, is that the double-din cage doesn't have any way to positively lock to anything inside the opening of the Porsche center console. I ended up taking the steps in the write-up that you read, and that all worked perfectly. If you aren't willing to do the same, then it may not work for you...but then again, you may come up with a better way, and if so, be sure to let me know what you figure out. If you do go with this setup, the outcome will be superior to fit & finish than any other solution for the Volcano Grey interior. I've had several folks look at it, and couldn't believe it wasn't a factory part. -B-
RallyJon
Not sure if you're aware, but www.planetporsche.net requires membership even to view posts (bizarre). Why would you post links from there?
dbnichols
Umm, because we're talking about a Porsche installation, and I don't want to retype / repost / reupload all that here dude. Don't have the time or the inclination. Join their board, and read the information I, and others have posted regarding Porsche installs of AVIC systems, or don't. Either way, makes no difference to me.
RallyJon
Yeah, that's pretty much what I expected you'd say. What is planetporsche anyway--looks like Cayman focused? I belong to rennlist, pelican, 6speed, renntech... of them, only renntech is members-only because of the unique provided content.
dbnichols
Haha...no big, bro! It does have a Cayman focus for sure, but it has a lot of good resources I found, for the PCM / BOSE wiring, etc., which is common between the Cayman and our 911s. I put a lot of the same info on RennTech too: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.ph ... ntry149916 and http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.ph ... ntry151030 I need to post on 6Speed and RennTech fully, but I just haven't gotten around to it. After figuring out the bypass for the Z110BT and posting that on here, I finished my installation and got a little lazy. BTW, PP has a good article in the Cayman section that details all of the wiring, which is identical except for the illumination / reverse signal for the 911, that was a valuable resource also. I made a psuedo-custom connector/harness to connect to the BOSE connector in the trunk, and it works great. -B-
